I suggest you do a little bit of research before you start throwing around outrageous statements such as this one. A) Qualification for the men's tournament at the 2014 Winter Olympics was determined by the IIHF World Ranking following the 2012 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships. The top nine teams in the World Ranking received automatic berths into the Olympics, while all other teams had an opportunity to qualify for the remaining three spots in the Olympics. B) Using the IIHF World Ranking points system, the current year received full value, and each preceding year was worth 25% less.[2] The following was a ranking based on points already accumulated toward Olympic qualification of all countries at the top level, or who are ranked amongst them. World ranking Team WC 2012 (100%) WC 2011 (75%) WC 2010 (50%) OLY 2010 (50%) WC 2009 (25%) Total 1 Russia 1200 825 580 520 300 3425 2 Finland 1100 900 520 560 265 3345 3 Czech Republic 1120 840 600 510 260 3330 4 Sweden 1040 870 560 530 280 3280 5 Canada 1060 795 510 600 290 3235 6 Slovakia 1160 705 450 550 235 3100 7 United States 1020 750 440 580 275 3065 8 Norway 1000 780 480 470 230 2960 9 Switzerland 920 720 530 500 240 2910 Pool A 1) Russia 6) Slovakia 7) USA Pool B 2) Finland 5) Canada 8) Norway Pool C 3) Czech Republic 4) Sweden 9) Switzerland - Slovenia, Austria and Latvia qualified for the final three spots in the tournament

One name that sticks out on that list is Anton Stralman for me. If he hits FA it likely means Girardi re-signed. I like Stralman a lot and think he would be a nice fit on the wings.

So, I work in Washington D.C., and apparently NOBODY can deal with snow down here. So pretty much every employer (including mine) cancelled work tomorrow because of the (slightly) above average snow storm we're currently receiving. Soooo, while you suckers are toiling away at work tomorrow I'll be watching USA hockey. And while you suckers are sleeping tonight, I'm getting loaded. Working for the gov't is AWESOME!

If this is against the rules hopefully a Mod will delete it and I'll share it via PM, but if you are outside of Canada and would like to take advantage of CBC's webcast here is how you can get around the Geo blocking. For those that aren't familiar with CBC's web coverage of the games you can select any event from any point in the games and watch it in its entirety. To access it you'll need to first connect to a proxy server in Canada (this one here was working when I tested it just now) IP - 199.185.61.1 Port - 8081 connecting to a proxy server is different depending on which browser you're using here is how you get to those settings in the most popular browsers Firefox - Tools > Options > Advanced > Settings > Manual proxy configuration Google Chrome - Options > Under the hood > Network > Change proxy settings > LAN settings > Use a proxy server > Advanced > HTTP - If you're running the newest version of Chrome, go to Settings, then at the bottom click "show advanced settings" > Change proxy settings > LAN settings > Use a proxy server > Advanced > HTTP - Then enter the IP and Port addresses and delete the numbers under "Secure" if there are any. Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet options > Connections > LAN settings > Use a proxy server > Advanced > HTTP. I've only tested it with Chrome and it worked great. Hopefully that helps my American friends who are busy during the day keep up with the games. (I can't help with the Beer Fridge unfortunately.)

May be a dumb question...but where can I watch olympic hockey highlights at? I seem to be unable to find them anywhere..

He's probably laughing at the horrific goal the USA women's goalie let in and that her Dwoman scored on her. The whistle blew right before it went in the net, but regardless that was a bad goal to let in. This I assume is why Babs is enjoying such a good chuckle.

    Olympic Hockey Schedule & Info

They have not even played a game yet. This is where the entitlement gets old. You do realize USA actually beat Canada 5-3 in the prelims that year...I realize they lost the game that counted, but it shows Canada is not unbeatable by any means.

I don't think the whistle affected the play, but by the rulebook it shouldn't have counted. Which begs the question, does intent to blow exist in IIHF?

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Not to sound like a broken record, but our offensive corps is shaping up nicely. Sure, you can always use more firepower but barring a power forward acquisition, we should be okay for this year. I would argue that we actually need TWO defenseman to win a Cup. Kronwall is our only offensive defenseman. I know Kindl and Smith and Quincey are considered as such but in performance they aren't. So let's break our corps in half. At the top, we have Kronwall, Ericsson and DeKeyser. One offensive talent, two defensive-minded players. Good enough to play defense but not really help the offense. Here is where an offensive D-man can help. Someone with a good stretch pass and who loves shooting. The mythical right handed point man for the powerplay. It's okay if he is a bit of a defensive liability because he would be paired with Ericsson or DeKeyser. In the bottom half we have Smith, Quincey, Lashoff, Kindl. Lashed is a reliable defensive guy, but nothing more than a #7. Six if we need him. The rest aren't particularly good at anything, and make particularly bad decisions with the puck. Also, their passing is bad, which stems from boneheaded decision making. So our second acquisition needs to be a solid, smart stay at home guy. A #5 or #6. I bet this would be just as valuable an acquisition as a star defender, even if he only had 10 points a year. Find those two guys, don't be shy about using our first or second picks in a weak draft, and this team suddenly operates very differently.

    Jimmy Howard's New Olympic Mask

of the (up to) 7 games the USA will play; 4 are elimination. Miller will likely be the #1, Quick #2, Howard doesn't have the starpower of the other two and will likely play only if Miller or Quick fail to play well.
