Nosek is signed for the future. Think of him as a draft pick they just signed. The rest of your post is nonsense. Thornton isn't what the team needs but Holland is stupid for not having any interest in him even though nothing about Thornton or that type of player has been mentioned at all by the team.

    Dan Cleary may return...sigh

How does that saying go? "If you love someone, set it free. If it returns to you, lock the doors & don't take any of his agent's calls."

Franzen is putting up just as many points as he was when he was signed to that contract. Kindl has a very tradeable contract. Gomez was a terrible comparison.

Exactly. And if those players improve but we've got a log jam on the NHL roster then we can flip them for picks.

Where does it say they're being given a spot? Nowhere. Mantha says his goal is the NHL immediately, "oooh such confidence.". Nosek says something about the NHL immediately, "he's being handed a spot wtf stoopid Holland.". Even Brunner wasn't just given the spot, he played well enough in the brief camp to earn it. It seems like you're complaining before there's anything to complain about.

Overpay on a one year deal if you must Kenny. You’ve got the cap space. But there's no way Monster should get a two year deal with Mrazek out of waiver options in 14-15.

    Dan Cleary may return...sigh

Considering that Babcock played him most of last year on the 4th line or as a healthy scratch, I think I would be little surprised if suddenly he played him in the top 6 with dats and Z on a 2-way contract. Although I don't I live in blind Holland hate land so what do I know?

If you're looking for FA acquisitions, yes, you'll be sorely disappointed. The kids will be another year better and our vets will indeed have injuries, although I don't think those can get any worse than last year. We are shedding Bertuzzi, Sammy, possibly Q, and likely sending Cleary to the minors. That should bring smiles to everyone around here.

If he is signing a 2way contract I don't see why people have a problem. Wings are keeping their word and sending a vet wing leader to Grand Rapids to teach the kids the way of the wheel.

    Dan Cleary may return...sigh

Cleary has been a good Red Wing until last year. I agree with Nightfall that if he is signed to a cheapish 2 way contract it can't hurt anything and will at least provide the Griffins with a strong experienced Vet to help the kids along. When Cleary hangs them up he will be the next ex-player hired within the organization.

I am ok with a cheap 2 way contract. I think he would provide good leadership for the kids in the Griffins organization for sure.

They may be. I can see why. ...but if they're unwilling to trade Hall, Eberle, RNH and MacT wants to make some moves, Perron may be tradeable. Other than that it's Gagner and Yak that I can see as movable pieces. I've no interest in Gagner and Yakupov isn't the high on my list either. Don't encourage him.

Wings need a Thornton-like player that is 5-10 years younger.

    GM moves

I know they are just being used as examples of Wings players that have the toughness you're looking for but, those guys collected points and PIMs almost 20 years ago. Lets not bring time-travel into the thread. Even though the game has gotten bigger/stronger/faster, the league doesn't have a wealth of guys that have all those traits wrapped up nicely in the one player package. Also, the league didn't have a salary cap so as coveted as those players were, even then, they were easier to obtain because all you had to do was PAY THEM WHATEVER MR. I WAS WILLING TO SPEND.

Cue mass destruction.. from St. James "The team also has been in talks with forward Cleary; despite a subpar and injury-plagued season, the Wings will be good to the word they gave to Cleary last fall when he left behind money and terms with Philadelphia to sign for one year and $1.75 million with Detroit. At the time, there was a verbal agreement the Wings would take care of Cleary past 2013-14. The most likely scenario has Cleary agreeing to a two-way contract that would enable the Wings to put him in the minors if he does not succeed in challenging for a job at training camp."

Of course Holland has an idea going into July 1st. You stated he isn't interested in NHL players though, which is either speculation or a major leap of exaggeration. Without debating the merits of the actual signings, Holland is always active through free agency. Trades are another story, but show me an instance where Holland has only been interested in undrafted players. He can take flyers on those guys (and why not?) and still pursue other players come July 1st, which by all indications is the plan.I don't see Thornton being an option, nor do I think he should be one for the Wings. However, I am extremely confident Holland will sign at least one NHL quality d-man in the near future. I guess I'm just not following the assumption Holland is standing pat this summer.

The league is running out of jobs for players like Thornton. Edit: oh, and for the record I don't think he's what the Wings need

We should be kicking the tires all up and down that Jets team. Kane, Wheeler, Byfuglien, Little, Ladd, Enstrom, Bogosian, Trouba - dear Goc, how do they have all that talent and not even make the playoffs???

It was probably just to hell him not to piss off the wings or he would get his ass beat just like his daddy and the whole team did.

Nice to see Pav playing an instrument. If he switches to electric, I'd be happy to give free lessons.

So not winning a cup automatically equates to hurting the team? Man, screw us for signing Dekeyser and Nyquist and Tatar and screw the Islanders for signing Tavares because none of them have helped win cups either. They're all so bad for their teams. Wow. I can't believe anyone would want to sign free talent that they didn't have to spend a pick on and is already farther along than a lot of prospects they have. Not to mention he's a guy that can bolster the C lineup in gr which I believe is what everyone expects is going to happen, considering his agent's comments about Blash. Talent is talent whether we draft it and it develops over there or it develops over there and then we sign it and develop it further. Nobody said he'll be an experiment on the big club. He's just like every other prospect now. And he's one of our better ones at center so I don't know why anyone would consider this a bad thing.
