    Winter is coming..

There's no reason it can't be.

    1. Weiss will make a lot of people eat crow by having a 50+ point season 2. Hank will have a career year. 3. Howard will have a bounce back season. 4. The team makes the playoffs with a lot less stress than the past 2 seasons. 5. A forward we'll hate to see go will be traded to bring in a dman that we need. 6. Many Wings fans will finally see that the team is going in the right direction.

As a Richard, I object. The common nickname for Richard is Rick. p.s. I bet that Franzen jersey is just gonna hang around your closet and not do much.

I expect to see 2-2.5 per. Either way, I expect people to complain about it now but be praising it come the final year. That's usually how these contracts work out

That's pretty advanced analysis. Did you use corsi for this?

I don't think 2.3M/yr is overpayment. That third year could end up being a bargain. Although Holland is terrific with his RFA signings (see: Sheahan, Riley) so I wouldn't be shocked at 1.5M per either.

Not that I like to admit that I plowed through that entire long-winded pile of gloom, but I have to call you on this. Helm's a wimp because you heard this from an inside source?

Hmm I guess my predictions will be: Smith still has a few brain-farts, but he becomes a LGW favorite this season. Babs gives him an opportunity on the power play, and he doesn't give it up. Cleary plays 10 games and is benched for the rest of the season. He then finally calls it a career. Weiss plays 50-60 games, looks much better than he did last year, but still not as good as he could be (and LGW expects). He becomes the new whipping boy. Howard has top 10 stats, half of LGW still argues that he's average. Gustavsson is often injured, and when he plays he is out of position, loses sight of the puck, fumbles the puck in the crease, and will somehow still win us games. Mrazek will play 10-15 games for the Wings this season, and look good in every game. Wings will go on a 3 game losing streak, LGW will implode. Wings will go on a 3 game winning streak, LGW will believe this team is as good as the 2002 team.

My predictions? Half the roster is injured by November and they barely scrape into the playoffs again.

Glad to hear. I'm about done with all the negative whirlwind around Cleary and Quincey. I'm looking forward to the future of this team with Mantha, Larkin, Sproul, Ouellet, Mrazek and so on, and looking forward to as much Helm, Z and Dats as possible and for Weiss to silence the naysayers with a solid 50 point season and Smith getting his real shot and showing everyone that he's legit. All the positives are being overshadowed by a few negatives. Sure it was a terrible offseason again, but we also had a 2nd draft in a row that saw us get not 1 guy under 6 feet. Once this team injects more of the top prospects into the line up and the arena is built downtown and the city is rejuvenated, guys are gonna wish they signed here the past few seasons and people will line up to play with the list of guys above....you know, aside from the guys who went to play for other teams to be closer to family and play with a good friend and all that. Kenny can't control those things and I don't blame him for any of those. Next season is pretty far from over seeing as it hasn't started yet. Lots of time to find success. Confused on the direction of the team moving forward? Bad bridge deals to hold the kids back, but once we get the kids, they're ready and f*** me they're good! I guess a little extra time in Blashill's hands isn't the worst thing that can happen.

Uugh, I hate this time of year, little to no Red Wings related news, evident by the hot topics on the go the past week or so... Some of which include threads on ugly Christmas sweaters, clearance merchandise, and favorite player agencies... Is it September yet?... Anyway, I figured this could involve some interesting discussion so I'll start it off... 12 somewhat bold but in my opinion, fairly reasonable Predictions for the Detroit Red Wings 2014-15 Season... 1. Datsyuk and Zetterberg play a combined 150+ games and score a combined 120+ points. 2. Weiss plays 70+ games and scores 25+ goals and 60+ points (career year). 3. Helm plays 70+ games and scores 15+ goals and 35+ points (career year). 4. Nyquist scores 60+ points and Tatar scores 50+ points (career years). 5. Cleary plays 50+ games and scores 20+ points, while everyone still ******* and complains about him taking up a roster spot. 6. Tomas Jurco scores 75+ points... in Grand Rapids, winning the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy (MVP). 7. Anthony Mantha spends the year down in Grand Rapids and scores a reasonable (but disappointing to most fans) 40-50 points. 8. Kronwall matches his jersey number, and puts up 55 points (career year), is a finalist for the Norris Trophy but comes up just short. 9. Smith finally starts getting some PP time and explodes putting up 40+ points, while also improving his defensive play. 10. Gustavsson stays relatively healthy but struggles mightily to keep the puck out of the net, Mrazek gets called up and plays out of his mind for 10+ games. 11. Howard plays 60+ games putting up career numbers in every category, is a finalist for the Vezina Trophy but comes up just short. 12. The Detroit Red Wings finally have a reasonably healthy year and win the Atlantic Division, finishing 2nd in the East. Obviously there's not much of a chance that all these predictions come true, hence them being of the bold variety, and I'm sure there are some people here that would say that there is no way that any of them come true... But I'm willing to bet at least half of them happen or come relatively close...

Wings stuff on clearance at Dick's

Stopped into our local Dick's Sporting Goods and stumbled on two clearance rack of shirts, pullovers, sweatshirts, coats, hats, socks, and some jerseys. Items were 50-75% off the lowest ticketed price and most of the stuff had been previously marked down. I got a Franzen WC Jersey for $34, and a embrodered heavy winter coat for $54. I added it up at home and we got $856 of originally priced stuff for $206! The store's name is the common nickname for "Richard".

The term is perfect for both sides. Both sides will get to see what they have in 3 years.

$7M? Overpayment.... No more than $1.5M per please. Maybe $5M for the term.

Wings stuff on clearance at Dick's

Wish I could go to the local stores and pick up bargain items. It always freaks me out when I'm in Meijer's and there is Wings stuff all over the place. You know, since I'm not usually in MI.

So our backup goalie gets the hook for the AHL goalie after playing in ten or less games?

Rick, sorry about that... I should have said "a common". Franzen was the only option in my size. My wife and son got WC jerseys of some guy named "Howard" for the same price.

who are Brassard (5x5) and Pouliot (4x5) agents? That agency is definitely the best.

    Winter is coming..

Huh, maybe it's just me but whenever we had ugly sweater parties it was kind of expected that people would go to Goodwill or a garage sale or something and the person that found the ugliest would win a prize (something alcohol related, natch). Because I would totally buy that sweater if I saw it at a garage sale. Just sayin'. So let me know if any of you plan on getting one. And then let me know if you plan on having a garage sale. P.S. The alternate sweater has CANDY CANES on it.

Never trust a gif. He was crosschecked in the back prior to running into the crossbar. Part of the reason he reacts the way he does is it looks like he hits his face on the crossbar. And he was going hard to the net to get open for a pass or rebound. It probably looks unfamiliar because he's one of the few Wings players who does it.

    Ferraro re-signed: 1-year $550K (2-way)

In 99.999999% of the time, a claimed player would have to go through waivers a second time if claimed by an NHL team who then wanted to assign the player to the AHL. The lone exception to that is when a player who was already claimed on waivers is waived a second time & the team that initially lost him on waivers reclaims him. In that case, the original team can send him straight to the AHL.
