Just got back from the game. Tough to be a road fan for that one. We didn't have much life in the beginning and when Mrazek gave up that goal two minutes in, I thought "Crap, he's going to have one of THOSE kind of games isn't he?". He was having issues with the puck, the defense wasn't really helping much at all. We didn't show any signs of life till the third. Despite getting creamed by the Pens, I still had a pretty decent night at the game. The Pens fans gave me a lot of ribbing, but not mean spirited by any means. The guy behind my 7 year old was very vocal for the whole game and he bought my son an ice cream when the Pens made 4-0. I met a ton of Wings fans there and they were all cool. I guess that's how it is when you're a fan of the road team, anyone wearing the same color as you, is now your friend. lol The highlight of my night was the pregame warm up. We got right up to the glass and Luke Glendening slammed himself right into the glass and bumped into my son startling him and the look on his face was priceless. I think Luke did it on purpose too. So while it wasn't the outcome I was hoping for, it was still pretty fun. I rarely get to see the Wings up close (this is only my 6th game in 29 years of being a fan) so that's always a treat. Next game I go to though, I want to be at the Joe. Surround myself with some Wings fans for a change. lol

I disagree. If Sergei Fedorov played his entire career in Detroit and retired as a Red Wing, I have little doubt that his number would have been retired.

That would be the worst movie ever made about sex...nobody would score!

Good to see they're getting along

I agree. I prefer to see career Wings to the extent possible. With Sergei it's about him leaving, but more importantly about WHEN he left. I wouldn't really care if he had a long career in Detroit and then finished out in Russia, or if he bled Red and White and then left at the end for one final shot at the Cup. But he left in his prime. That's a no-go for me if you want to be immortalized at the Joe.

What should we do with the Monster?

Is Danny Cleary still on the roster? Can't we waive him already so we can carry these three goalies, plus 8 defensemen... please? LOL.

Only chance he had is if he continued to play here and retired as a Red Wing. But it would still be doubtful. You had to be "that guy"

Laughable. Seriously. Does Toronto think they've got any leverage in this situation? Toronto wants to deal him. Get something for a guy that isn't going to re-sign with them. Teams know that Toronto wants to deal him because they can't really afford to sign the guy to the contract he wants. So, why anyone would give the Leafs what they want? A 1st round pick {PLUS} for a guy who in all likelihood could end up just being a rental? A week ago, word on the street was a second rounder could get you Franson. Now it's a 1st++. Talk about lessons in negotiations. You start high and go from there... not the other way around.

I've never seen a place where the by far best player is getting so much flak. But sure go ahead trade your best player and then complain about not having a finisher Clarkson, Lupul aren't movable but Phaneuf is not that bad if the Leafs retain some salary the offers will come flying .

I'd actually like to see if indeed Buffalo is throwing in the towel, how much it would take to get Bogo here. Maybe a couple of picks and a prospect?

And it's official, Malik had his freak out lol. In its entirety... "Excuse me, Bryan has been a trusted source for some time now, and as I was in the middle of work, Winging It asked McKenzie and got the answer before I could… I’m sorry for “reporting” something that was incorrect, but please note that the headline, REPORT, is journalistic slang for, “THIS IS A REPORT, NOT NECESSARILY GOSPEL TRUTH.” I’ve made my apology, Bryan has made a Twitter apology, the situation has been rectified. I’m not Brian *#$%@& Williams, and if you don’t like the way I operate, go read another blog. Rule NUMBER ONE of my job is to not make s*** up—and I didn’t make this up—and rule NUMBER TWO is to cite my sources, which I did. I cited a false report, assuming that the veracity of the report was sound, that was not the case, and I’ve attempted to make amends. If that makes me a fraud in your eyes, you’re barking up a tree with a bear in it." I'm especially fond of the part where he likens himself to a bear. What a ******.

Our team would be bigger, but softer actually.

Unlike Mike McKee. He's so underrated.

James Wisniewski isn't worth his contract? He's a top four offensive defenseman and powerplay quarterback. Since he's been with Columbus he's scored 115 points in 199 games. He also averages over 20 minutes a night. He's been top ten in defense scoring twice in the four years he's been there, and has contributed 14 powerplay goals and 47 powerplay points since then. What would he need to do to be worth his contract if he's not doing it already? Learn to fly? Do the team's taxes as well?

Holland should trade for an elite defenseman and a power forward. But only if he can get them for guys I don't really like. And if he doesn't get that done, I'll spend the next 8 months telling everyone how badly he failed and that a GOOD GM would have been able to do it, because 5 average to bad players equals one really good player. Like that time I went to a BMW dealer and tried to talk him into trading me a brand new Z4 in exchange for an '02 Mountaineer, a '09 Ranger, an '87 Escort, and '86 Daytona, a transmission from an old Cutlass Supreme, an '89 Blazer, a '91 Taurus with a blown up engine, and my weird uncle's old Camaro. That's like 7 cars plus a tranny for ONE car, super great deal.

frank, "Holland's job is to defend the trade as much as possible"? No, Holland's job is to make this team as competitive as he possibly can, every single year... That involves making trades to improve the team in the now, without mortgaging the future, keeping in mind the team 5 years from now. I'll admit, I was a little shocked by what we had to give up to get Legwand here for a few months, and I was a little disappointed at the time. However, if anyone thinks, that trade mortgaged the future, or even set us back, are not looking at things clearly. Jarnkrok is a pretty decent young player, and I think he still has the potential to be a 40-50 point guy in this league. But that's the type of production that can be replaced any year by a FREE agent... which in my opinion has already been done this past summer, with the signing of Tomas Nosek. People really need to get over this minuscule botch on Holland's resume, it was one minor bad, not awful trade... Also, just because it doesn't matter to you, believe it or not, the streak is important to a lot of fans, and the entire organization, Holland did a great job in keeping that intact.

That didn't happen. I don't really read it as Holland admitting a mistake. He's just saying that you can't do that every year. He defends the move saying the line carried us for a while and gave us hope, which it did. THat was the purpose - make the playoffs. I don't think it was a mistake anyway. We made the playoffs - it was a necessary evil. There was little chance Jarnkrok would find a space on a team that has so many centers that Weiss is on 4th line wing. Jarnkrok could have been used in a trade for a long term need (RH D), but who knows if having him would make a deal happen that won't without him

The only teams we've beat in a month are Buffalo, New Jersey, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Calgary. Seriously, we haven't beat a playoff bound team in a month. And at some point we've got to stop with all this "we're not competing", "we're not playing our best hockey", "this group is better than that", "we need a 60 minute effort". I'm not being negative just to be negative. But regardless of how many points you've got, to be a good team you've got to beat good teams. We aren't. Which makes me think all the points we've got are the product of a weak early season schedule, and not because we're that great. Here's hoping Babs and the boys prove me wrong. I'd love to be. But to do that they've got to go at least .500 against playoff caliber teams.

Regardless of what fans think of him, the reality is that Pulkinnen is a second tier prospect who is most likely still viewed as a guy who is far from a sure fire NHL player and who needs to prove that he can do more than shoot the puck at the NHL level. I know the feeling around here is that he's going to be some kind of second coming of Brett Hull and score 50 goals a year, but he's far more likely to top out as a 20-25 goal PP specialist playing on the 3rd line.
