Jesus Christ. I have my head up the azz of hockeysfuture.com as much as the next Red Wings fan, and I love my prospects, but this deal was a home run. Wtf are people complaining about?

So do some of you guys even want to win or what? Kenny gave up 2 prospects who likely were never going to see time in the winged wheel. Cole is 36, have you seen him play? He's not Bertuzzi. He can still skate as well as he ever did, and plays a physical power game.

Some people are impossible to please, you think each and every prospect is going to be future top-6, wrong. We just got bigger, try and appreciate that.

He isn't alone. There isn't a whole lot not to like about these guys through 60 games.

Yeah bring a guy in who has scored 18 goals and has speed for a 36 yr old is terrible... give me a break... Erik Cole is a really good pick up

What kind of crap is this? You have to strut around like Razor Ramon to be a good GM? And as if Illitch asked Holland to step aside for Yzerman. And as if Holland would refuse. Jesus.

I'm sure he's kind of bewildered in a way and once it sets in he'll feel fantastic he was traded to the greatest sports organization in the world

Are you serious? Please tell me this is a joke. Because this is a great trade for the Wings. We lost two prospects who have zero future here. Two prospects who have very little value. And by trading them, this team has a better shot at a deep playoff run.

I like this trade, always been a Cole fan. Has great speed, and is gonna have 20 goals by the end of the year. The wings got even more depth scoring, by the end of the year depending on Zetterberg's health we could have 5 20 goal scorers.

Guy comes to play in the playoffs. Like the trade or hate it you will be cheering when he puts the puck in the net come playoffs, I bet my shoes on it.

Abby + Franzen = Cole. I think our top 6 just got way more dangerous and less one-dimensional. Tatar - Datsyuk - Cole Nyquist - Zetters - Abby If Franzan can come back we'll be lookin even betta

Two decades of success vs online forum poster... Yea, I know who I'm going with.

18 goals, hits a ton, brings much needed size and physicality qualifies as broken down? It's not like Cole is this 36-year-old slug that can't skate either. Cole does improve the Red Wings for the playoffs -- that isn't just organizational lip service.

Detroit got a top 6 forward and gave up a second and two prospects, not even our elite ones Janmark is good, but we're so deep down the middle it doesn't matter a whole lot Backman would be behind Sproul, Hicketts, Ouellet, Marchenko anyway so who cares What matters to me is we kept Mrazek Mantha Larkin AA XO Sproul and Marchenko which is awesome

I like it. Cole should help play near the crease, which is something I wanted. And we didn't give up too much to get him. Backman made his own bed, so I'm not heart broken about that. Janmark is a good prospect with a lot of upside, but you've got to give to get. I remember when we traded Jarnkrok and sudden he became a "bust" that was too small, or too Euro, or too far down the depth chart. None of that is true, and isn't about Janmark either. But if he had no value, I doubt Nill would have wanted him. This helps us now, without sacrificing much later. I'm fine with it.

Have you seen what other teams are paying this year? This is a fair deal both ways. And we had to make room for all the centers we drafted last year to come into the system. Holmstrom, ehn, vahatalo, kadeykin, and turgeon. Janmark isn't worth all this griping.

    I'm thinking something like: Nyquist-Z-Abby Tatar-Datsyuk-Cole Weiss-Sheahan-Pulkkinen Miller-Glendening-Andersson

Completely agree. We can't make trades without giving anyone up, it just doesn't work that way. I just hope this doesn't turn into another Jarnkrok trade, where these guys are mentioned in every thread. Cole is still a good player and will create lots of space for Pav to maneuver. I call this trade a winner, no matter what happens going forward.

Actually it sounds like its ONLY vibes. "who I believe brought way more..." "I believe Holland was created by other good front office people." "He does not seem to be a great stand alone GM". These aren't facts. This is what you believe. And you didn't even bother to try to support these opinions with anything empirical or quantifiable. As far as any of us are aware you're going off of vibes. Also, you say Holland's ability to make good trades has nose-dived after people like Nill left. Nill left in 2013. Holland only made two trades since then (Legwand and Cole). That's not exactly a good sample size to base criticism on, especially because the Cole trade isn't even 4 hours old yet, and we haven't had a chance to see what these players can do for their new teams (but considering Holland moved two players who will never see ice as a Red Wing, if Cole plays just one game then the Wings are coming out ahead). If Holland made any s***ty trades prior to Nill leaving in 2013, are you willing to point the blame on Nill for those screwups? Or does he only get credit for the good trades, and it was all Holland's idea for the bad ones? And also, will you be basing your answer off more than vibes again?

And to sweeten tonight's trade talk: Florida 4 TB 3 3 games in hand, one point back.

Cole is a big north-south guy who is physical as hell and has 18G. He’s not just some 36 yr old scrub.

Cole is still fast, his skating is most likely his best asset, not helm fast, but he's fast. Janmark would probably never play for us, and even if he did, I've never seen or read anything that puts his ceiling above a 3rd liner. The chances Backman ever played a game for us or even for the griffins was minimal. The second round pick we gave up hurts a little, but if he gets hurt or we don't make the ECF we get a third rounder. This doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.

The people upset at this deal are the same people throwing Ferraro and Callahan into every trade proposal thinking they have value. Two fringe prospects and a second round pick (with a 3rd possibly coming back our way) for a guy on pace for 25 goals who can fill in nicely for the hole left by Franzen. Strengthens the top six nicely without having to give up one of our premium prospects. Kenny can trade down in the draft and get the 2nd rounder back. Nice deal!
