He does get called that a lot. Each time he screws up Babs used to yell "Jesus Christ!". Come to think of it Brendan Smith is likely Jesus Christ. -

Except possibly the Wings. On the top pair against top lines Green may wreak havoc but possibly not the kind you're looking for. Green played 19 minutes a game for the Caps (good for 5th in TOI/game) and 2:45 of that was on the PP. He also started in the offensive zone 60% of the time. If he were on the top pair I'm guessing we'd all be pining for the good ol days when Ericsson was there. Anything could happen and I'm guessing he will be asked to do more on the Wings, but I don't see him on the top pair. Like Helmethead posted, middle pair seems likely, with a ton of PP minutes. -

#34 will be in the rafters for Mrazek, he will rewrite Roy's and Brodeur's stats....there I said it. 25 is fine, everyone was fine with Chelios in #24. -

How is 4.25 for the next five years a "horrible, Unmovable contract" because he's 31. We all know Ericsson didn't play like a top pair defenseman last year, but the year before that he was playing very well, so much So that people were talking about how important Ericsson is to the team when he went down with an injury a couple years back... He is a good top four dman, and yes serviceable on the top pair, not very good, But serviceable. And he clears the front of the net better than any of our other d, he plays 20+ minutes a night, and for those of you who complain there's not enough fighting, he is our best fighter and the one who's fastest to stick up for teammates. He makes some bad plays, he could make one bad play in ten games and be completely solid the rest of the time and there would still be people complaining about that one bad play, extrapolating it into worse and worse things... I get that there has to be a scapegoat so everyone can vent their frustration, and since Quincey was one of our better d last year, and kindl barely played, so it all reverts to Ericsson. Who didn't even get to fully prepare for the season because his hand/finger injury to the point he could barely grip a hockey stick. Its maddening how fickle some of us fans can be. -

I think Quincey played amazing this last season. I would be totally against moving him at all. I know we need to make some cap space room now, but we just can't lose his toughness and good defensive play. -

See, I don't buy that. Babcock wanted Ouellet on last year's opening night roster. Before we'd signed Green, Ryan Martin said one of the kids would be making the team out of camp. Even now, with Green in the fold and one less spot "available," Kenny has indicated he'd like to start the season with Ouellet or Marchenko on the roster and that he may (but, realistically, surely won't) move someone out for the purpose of freeing up a roster spot for one of the kids. For Kenny to speak to that possibility...it means he himself realizes that starting both Ouellet and Marchenko in Grand Rapids would be pretty much inexcusable, especially given all his talk about how the young players need to take a step forward this season and how we need to get younger and faster as a team. If both Ouellet and Marchenko start the season in Grand Rapids (and, by extension, spend the majority of another season playing against AHLers), it will be because 1) Smith ($2.75M cap hit x 2 years for a 26-year-old third-pairing defenseman who doesn't produce points and makes costly peewee mistakes on the defensive side of the puck) and Kindl ($2.4M cap hit x 2 years for a 28-year-old #7 defenseman who's a disaster in the d-zone) and Ericsson ($4.25M cap hit x 5 years for an error-prone 31-year-old "defensive defenseman") are all pretty much untradable, and 2) it's very important that the promising and NHL-ready young player who will be replacing Legendary All-Star Defenseman Kyle Quincey next season (and is fully capable of replacing him this season) sees as little NHL ice time as possible this season, because development! -
1 pointSvechnikov's goal was pretty great. A lot of good things on that play. Him and Larkin go to the dirty areas, they don't give up on the play, and Svech doesn't over think and shoots when he has the open net.
