I don't think it's that close between them to be honest. I think Dats just has the "WoW" factor because of his dangles. Truly Fedorov was the best player in the league for a good 2-3 years. Feds was a 50 goal scorer, had more than 10 game winning goals in so many seasons. He also had 31 short handed goals! (holy crap) And the fact that Bowman was able to put Fedorov on defense (where he did really well) truly shows how good he was as a two way player. Also I think there was a time when Fedorov was one of the best faceoff guys in the league as well. Not to mention Fedorov was the fastest hockey player in the world for a long time. A lot of these factors are something Dats lacked imo. I think if there's any player that I've witnessed as the most complete player, my vote would go to Fedorov. However I'd rank Yzerman before him simply because Stevie was a better playoff performer. Which at the end of the day.. is what matters most.

Nielsen will lead the team in points this year...he will have a career points outburst. Vanek will score 35 goals, 20 on the PP. Ott will get 68 games in and lead the team in hits and PIM's. Nyquist and Howard will both be traded along with one of Smith or E. Howard maybe not until the deadline. One of Pulkkinen or Jurco will not be A Red Wing to start the season. Helm and Abby will have career years along with Sheahan and Tatar. Larkin will outscore Eichel and Matthews this season. ...bold predictions part 1.

Opinions are opinions, but personal attacks and name calling is against site rules. We are teetering on the line here, i'm not going to edit anything, but keep it toned down and contribute intelligently. If your best rebuttal is "your opinion is stupid because I said so", or referring to someone's post as "stupid" or "garbage" then just refrain from posting altogether. This is considered "trolling" or intentionally trying to stir people up needlessly. Keep it in line. Thanks.

Ok, stop right here. This explains everything now.

I suppose irony wasn't the right word. It was more of your username than anything. Because punctuation seems unknown to the Internet. People suck at spelling and grammar to begin with, then you throw in Internet slang/shortcuts and people become zombies.

This is about Steve Ott, not McCarthy not Howe...also what are you still doing here you've said you are going to bump ship on the Leafs bandwagon yesterday?

It feels like groundhog day... here we are with a glut of overpaid/underachieving forwards signed, anyone under 25 not named Dylan Larkin have been "cock-blocked" from seeing any meaningful NHL ice time. And our defence is terrible and another year older. This team needs a new management philosophy ASAP.

Yeah if we signed any free agent d man this year, it would feel like a plug.. A long term plug too. Kind of like Ericsson Trade route is the way to go but it takes two GMs.. Hopefully we can make something work sooner rather than later.

I agree. There is a reason he is unsigned still. If we could swing for Trouba we could actually have a legitimate team.

The more I think about this deal, the more I hate it.

I would add that a positive is that we have plenty of extra pieces to use for a trade But otherwise sounds about good.

In fact people would have been furious if he didn't sign neilson. He got neilson at a shorter term and dollar amount than his team (nyi) that he was with for his full 10 year career offered and people are still mad. Had he signed lucic, backes, okposo, or any of the big names from today to any of the contracts they signed for people would still be mad. Kenny can never do anything right around here. I feel like he actually did a good job today. Ya the neilson contract length is long, but it's only really going to hurt us the last 2 years most likely. The vanek signing was very good too imo. Helm contract length and dollar was high, but shouldn't really hinder us going forward too much.

Nielson: 32 younger than Datsyuk: 37 Vanek: 32 younger than Richards: 36 How did we get older? Ott is 33 which isn't even that old and he won't play much. He only played 21 games last year. I don't think anyone realistically thinks AA won't be on the team. I think Ott will be a GR call up.

The way I see it, no players were taken on outside of Neilson that has to be protected for the expansion draft. If Vanek plays well and decided Detroit is a good fit, he can re-sign after the draft. So on the bright side, at least we shouldn't lose anyone meaningful when that time comes.

Come on, be realistic. Minnesota is a team where someone as good as Parise even drops in production. For 2.6 million, it's a solid signing. It also allows us a chance to trade for a top D now.

Weiss flunked out because he couldn't stay healthy, which didn't allot him the time necessary to learn our system, gain any concistency, or gaining any cohesion with linemates. Nielsen, while I don't think is truly the answer, has only missed 7 games over the past 5 seasons. Other than Okposo, he'll be playing with some better wingers here (Zetterberg, Nyquist, Tatar, Larkin, maybe Mantha if he can transition).

I'm not talking about the people he did sign, I'm addressing the fact that Holland is accused of "sleeping on a free agent" because they signed somewhere else as if Holland had first dibs on every free agent.
