My impression of Mrazek is he is a fundamentally poor goalie. He's had flashes of brilliance but he has terrible positioning and overplays the puck way too much and he's constantly getting burned on it. He is super aggressive to compensate for being an otherwise poor goalie so either he overplays the puck and gets burned a lot or he stays in his net and can't make saves. His play style may have worked in the AHL, etc where players aren't as good but it's not transferring well into the NHL except when he was inexplicably hot last year. Not to mention he is clearly a drama queen and has an attitude problem. I even see it when he handles the puck behind the net - he gingerly slides back to the goal as if he thinks his passes are so perfect that he doesn't have to put in effort to get back in net - and it's burned him multiple times. Not to mention when he got pissed off a Helm for having a puck deflect off him accidentally. Clear attitude issues. My extremely brief impression of Coreau (from this past pre-season and the few games this year) is that he is a fundamentally sound goalie but still has some growing to do. I'll take the fundamentally sound goalie over the goalie who is flashy but has poor fundamentals. As for Howard, he may not be the best goalie in the league (I mean that literally, he isn't the best goalie in the league) but the fact is he is an elite goaltenders despite how much people may dislike him and be in love with Mrazek just because he's young and flashy. Howard has at least a few year left of being elite. We can't keep both Coreau and Mzarek long term so I think we should ride Howard for a few more years until Coreau is ready and let Las Vegas have Mrazek. I don't claim to be an expert on goaltending, but this is just my instinct and my opinion.

Happy Birthday to: KATIEBARTHEDOOR24 may the Wings get the W in honour of your Birthday and kickstart the Cali trip.

Ah, missed that. So, the situation room in Toronto is biased toward the Montreal team. Got it! It's so hard to keep up with the league conspiracies.

Still on holiday routine, so not a lot of LGW participation for me. I'm checking in to say "Big Erection, I saw what you did and I do NOT approve". Thanks for listening!

Red Wings win with Steve Ott's hatrick goals all on the PP. Somehow now that he's on the PP instead of Sheahan, our PP becomes alive again and jumps from last in the league or whatever to 15th or something.

I've had the opposite. I really started enjoying watching the games and the young kids after I stopped stressing about the streak. Hockey is almost relaxing again.

Loving the originality of your GDTs Nerve, the silly polls, the shout-outs to the LGW Member's birthdays, it all has a lot of personality and makes me smile. In a dismal year, you bring these forums a bright light and great humor. Thank you! I'll be awake for this one, as painful as it may turn out. LGW, Ott with a pair of PP goals, Sheahan and Jensen with the other two, and a 4-3 OT win (with Mrazek's obligatory 3 goals against).

To send him down we'd have to expose him to waivers. So that's only going to happen if Holland is comfortable with giving him away for free.

I have no doubt Ott scores on the PP before Sheahan does with equal playtime. Chances are it would be off his butt, but he would get a goal before Sheahan.

Dominik could still play, I have no doubt at all. But he's really done this time, having too much fun doing other stuff in CZ. I don't see Jimmy as untouchable, he's smart and knows this is just business. Here's an issue I see with trading Jimmy this year, however. I can't see dumping Mrazek, but he strikes me as too inexperienced and emotionally "young." He can't handle the not-so-good team effort in front of him. That is expecting too much, I think. He might share a homeland, but Petr is no Dominik Hasek. He needs a solid number one in front of him to deflect the heat and pressure. Legace played very well, with Dom to hide behind -- often happens with backups, when there is an elite goaltender as the top dog. They don't always fare so well when they are in the hot seat. I am not dissing Mrazek, I love the kid. If you know me at all, the prospect of having another career, crazy CZ-goalie to love is almost more than I can stand. But he isn't there yet. That said, I love Coreau. He's a good, BIG, solid goalie -- and he's the victim of the team in front of him, just as the other 'tenders have been. Jimmy has an unfortunate tendency to get hurt seriously, when he's on a great run, statistically. That aspect of his career will be his legacy (no pun intended), I am sorry to say. Love me some Jimmeh, but it's probably not in the cards that he retires a Wing. Z must retire a Wing, however.

That seems like a lot for Hamilton. The fact that Boston traded him and now Calgary is apparently open to moving him sends up red flags for me. Generally when a kid with that much potential is moved twice by that age, it's a bad sign.

If you're staying near Wayne State I would check out Motor City Brewery for some awesome pizza and beer, and across the street from them is Jolly Pumpkin, which specializes in sour beers, and also has a cool menu. Traffic Jam is right there too (mentioned above), but I personally am not much of a fan of that place (but don't take my word for it, give it a shot anyway if you're looking to explore the local scene). Hopcat kinda give me a Buffalo Wild Wings vibe to it, although their specialty is crack fries rather than wings, and their beer selection they have on tap. I'm personally not too big on this place either. Selden Standard is phenomenal and is up near where you're staying, too. I would 100% hit that place up. You're also gonna be close to the Detroit Institute of Arts, which I would also recommend. For lunch/sandwiches I would head over to Mudgie's or Russell Street Deli (RSD is in Eastern Market, if you're going there try to plan it for a Saturday morning to experience the farmer's market. Supino's pizza down there is also excellent). The aformentioned fowling: Its football + bowling. Great atmosphere. A little bit farther out from where you're staying. Closer to downtown Hockeytown Cafe and Chelis are good classic Detroit sports bars, but I would also check out Cliff Bells right down the road from them. Its been a staple of the Detroit Jazz scene for ages and is a great place to grab some drinks, a bite to eat and listen to some great live music. Punch Bowl Social is also downtown but has a lot to do, including bowling, darts, arcade games, ping pong, foosball, a bunch of other things, and great food and drinks of course. Its a fun place. Republic is also great. Their thing is locally sourced ingredients when possible, and an eclectic menu that changes with the seasons. I forget the actual term, but they also serve as a "shared table" kinda experience, meaning someone orders something and its expected that everyone at the table partakes in that particular menu option, so you'll end up trying several things off the menu. Lafayette and American Coney Island are classic coney places. They're supposed to be bitter rivals from the same family, and its a city divided as to which one is the superior coney dog. They taste the same to me lol. Lafayette is more of a hole in the wall vibe, American is a bit more polished. They're next door to each other so grab one of each, determine which one is better and join the war. Slows has legit barbecue, Sweetwater Tavern has legit wings. Breakfast places: Hudson Cafe, Dime Store I both recommend. In terms of skating, campus martius has an outdoor rink at the heart of downtown which can be romantic, especially at night. There's really so many places that have opened up in the past few years I haven't been able to keep up. For every place I've been to there's probably 10 that I haven't, and most of these places have awesome reviews. Above all, I would recommend going downtown some evening and just walking around and see where the night takes you. The safe areas get a lot of foot traffic these days so itll be pretty intuitive for you to identify. If you end up wandering into a dangerous neighborhood all of a sudden you're the only one around and all the buildings are dilapidated. Just use common sense. And I second that you have to supply us with pics afterward.
