I don't think anyone here is "blaming the lottery." They're just pointing out that we were one number away from the #1 pick and that this is a bummer. It's not like we pulled a CBJ and went on a late-season tear. And it's not like Holland loaded up at the deadline and hurt our ability to suck. We were bad all season long, including the final stretch. Wait...what? You've decided that our season has provided "no rewards at all" because we didn't get a lottery pick. ... And you're asserting that "trying to increase our odds" is "for sure better than" what it is we did, even though "it doesn't always work out." ... So, we should've tried to suck harder (how? By not trading Smith and Vanek for picks? By telling the players to wave the white flag and deliberately lose games? "Hey! Red Wings! Stop scoring so many power play goals! The power play is too good!") because that for sure would've been better for us, because all that matters is a top-three pick, which no team is guaranteed. Seems legit.

    DickieDunn

    2017 Draft

Not if he wants to play in the Olympics If the Jets were willing to let Trouba go for the 9th and not much else, go for it. Same for Hamilton or any other young defenseman. I'd rather get them than the next McIlrath. If they wanted a whole lot more, take the risk with the pick. I don't see much separation between the guys likely available there. Whoever they take has more or less as much chance as any other of being a high end player, unless they go completely off the board and do a Matt Millenesque pick.

I think we can pretty much say goodbye to Tippett, Mittelstadt, and Makar.. would be stoked if one of those three fell to us though.

Likely nobody, but the Predators are stingy enough to play against and have a great goalie.

Hanging out with regular season Bobrovsky.

Can you at least say this is your opinion, you are saying it like it's fact which is simply untrue. Rumors last year were that Winnipeg wanted Larkin and a winger, and who even knows for sure if that was true.

Hoping Holland will use the pick to pry Trouba out of the Peg

Really hoping the pick is traded for a legit dman at this point.

All because of unlucky number 13. Can we blame this on Datsyuk somehow?!!

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/canucks-red-wings-one-number-off-winning-nhl-draft-lottery/ Its like an actual lottery, we were literally one number off from getting the 1st pick. Son of a *****!

These goalies are trash. Holtby is garbage in the playoffs. Varlamov wasn't much better. No brainer why they can't get past the 2nd round. They need to get tougher, get rid of a few Ruskies and get a goalie who doesn't play like Roman Cechmanek's twin brother in the postseason.

Yeah Holland will pick some guy no ones ever heard of that would still have been available in the third round, totally ignoring the BEST AVAILABLE REGARDLESS OF POSITION. Wings need defence, but that doesn't mean they HAVE to draft a d-man. Take the best you can get. If it's a forward, so be it. Use the player in a trade for what you need.

It will be some undersized unheard of sleeper pick who had a few good weeks before the end of the season. Personally I would like Foote or Vilardi. Canuck fans must be furious they have again dropped a few spots.

What a great season this team couldn*t even finish the tankjob the right way haha.

Size is overrated, IMO. Players may be getting bigger on the whole, but the game is getting faster and there are countless non-big players with high-end talent that are thriving. Jean-Gabriel Pageau is 5'9" and he just scored four goals in a single playoff game, including the double-OT winner. I mean, I don't disagree that Suzuki's stature is a big reason why he's not ranked higher. But I think that's more a reflection of institutionalized bias (Michael Rasmussen is getting a lot of love from scouts because he's big and he "goes to the net") than it is a significant point of concern regarding Suzuki's NHL potential.

I just clicked through, and we got Tippett at #9. It only takes a few dumb GM's to fall in love with another player for him to drop. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I'm hoping Suzuki is available at 9th, and I think there's a pretty decent chance he is. I'd be totally fine with him being our guy.

Damn. Some teams got f***ed!!! NJ may have gotten #1, but Philly won moving up 11 spots. What are the odds that Kovy returns now?

    2017 Draft

I predict #8, and we take Liljegren or Tolvanen. The Leftwinger gets banned due to his reaction...

Four goals for Pageau, including the 2OT winner. Unreal. I'm pulling for the Rangers in this series, I guess, but it's hard to root against this Sens team.

Oh, ok. I must have you confused with a different poster. I think her name was LeftWingette... I always get you two mixed up. That chick was always acting a fool... (See what I did there? Like how you used to refer to players you dont like by girls names. Pretty funny, huh?)

We werent even behind in the series! It was tied at 2 and we were headed back home for game 5! Like, how much more can a person be an irrational, knee-jerk cry baby?! All im saying is that if youre gonna threaten to quit the team and start burning s***, you better make sure your team doesnt win the freaking STANLEY CUP!

Actually I agree. Just pointing out how crazy it is that NFL owners can just release a contract whenever they like. What kind of contract is that where you're guaranteed nothing. I know some top players have guaranteed money nowadays but it's nothing compared to the full contract I do think NHL owners should have a little more wiggle room with contracts though.
