Somewhat surprised by everyones reaction. He's going to the NHLPA, not Dallas. His contract was up at the end of the month anyway, if he didn't want to re-up with us there's not much we can do about that. Wasn't he in a very limited role anyway?? As much as I love Chelly, this isn't a significant blow to the organization in any way.

After getting his taste of the NHL last year, Bertuzzi is showing he's ready to be a full time contributor this fall. His AHL playoff numbers are crazy, but it's the all around play that's so exciting. We haven't had a player like him in a long time. Nosek absolutely has to be on the roster as well. His size and ability to protect the puck makes him a real effective player, and I think as a bottom 6 center in the NHL that will translate. As far as the Calder Cup, I still think the Griffins get it done. Just might not be winning tonight

But Datsyuk and Zetterberg = 20 players on their own. I agree, I've thought of us being strong in the middle rounds picks lately.

I'm sitting right behind Pasquale. Every goal I tell him to get ready. Team needs him

According to Darren Dreger on TSN's Insider Trading His one-year contract has been terminated (it was to end at the end of this month) Chelios went to the Wings to say he was involved with player agents Anton Thun, Kurt Overhardt, and Rich Winter in an attempt to strengthen the NHLPA Could be a role for him in the NHLPA as an ombudsman, but cannot do both jobs at the same time No bad blood at all, Wings cut him loose. Chelios could circle back to the Red Wings if things don't work out with the NHLPA.

    Chelios Released from Duties

fan favorite former pro hockey players always make the best candidates for coaching staff. theres a correlation between how popular someone is among the fanbase during their career and how much guaranteed success they will bring to a club in a coaching position.

    Chelios Released from Duties

You could say it's.... FAKE NEWS Being serious, Chelios has always been a PA guy and he wants to get involved so more power to him. Team stunk it up all over the ice last year, so losing any coach won't hurt too bad.

What's to stop Chelios from doing it anyway?? Edit: for the record I'm really disappointed in all of you that this wasn't the second fricking comment.

    Targets for the Wings

I've heard this rumor as well. He's coming off a $2 million deal and he's RFA. He's going to get probably something between 3 and 4 million, maybe more? And we can't just sign him, will have to compensate NYI with picks. That I don't like. He's also a pretty boring choice. He played the 2nd pairing and blocks a lot of shots and plays the PK. Other than that I don't find him very enticing, especially with the RFA status.

If he was really committed he would have stayed for that last month instead of bailing early. He's dead to me. Sent from my LGLS676 using Tapatalk

    Griffins Calder Cup Playoffs Thread

Coreau has actually been pretty good. Couple stinker games, but also like 7-8 really good ones. His call-up wasn't very impressive, but he had some decent moments. I wouldn't mind seeing him as the backup next year.

This thread is about Chelly, and I don't want to turn this into another Holland thread, but the next 2 months will illustrate the future of this team. With Mr. I passing, missing the playoffs for the first time in a quarter century, and the expansion looming, there will be huge opportunity to readjust this team and alter our approach. If Chris and Ken want to shakeup the team, the next two months is the time to do it. If they don't, I'm sure there will be a mid-July Holland gripe fest you can jump in on.

    Chelios Released from Duties

Why not? May as well burn it all down, huh? Trade that 9th pick for early Shattenkirk rights too while your at it, Kenny. Having one of the NHL's top surviving HOF defensemen around to help your current black hole of a defence? Nah, cut him loose. He's Dallas bound. Nill has already made the call I'm sure.

Dallas will take him, and prosper. It's what they do - steal our good management guys.

    Targets for the Wings

I think Big Dylan is going to get a chance on the Wings this year, not as a top 6, but as a call up at some point.

    Targets for the Wings

Not a bad thing at all. I meant the comparison in a good way, in case it wasn't clear. Yeah, there's a good case for making a move like that. For me it's just that with all the questions about the rest of the roster, he might not have any impact. And it could easily be 5+ years before we get back into contention. He could be pushing 30 and starting to decline by the time we really need him. Or even gone via UFA. If I'm giving up top picks, I want a real star. I think we could get something close to Dumba/Brodin for less. Haydn Fleury would be my prime target. Probably won't be as good a scorer as Dumba, but maybe better defensively, and I'd expect to get him a lot cheaper.

You're talking about two different things here, so I'll try to address them both. Frk's "skill", and his scoring rate so far in the AHL. The two aren't really the same thing. His scoring rate is decent enough for the AHL, but his skill is what makes me think he'd perform better on an NHL third line than the guys you mentioned. A little like AA, who didn't really have that great of a scoring rate in the AHL when he was a top guy, but whose skillset makes him dangerous in the NHL as a complimentary piece. I think that with his shot, size, and hands it wouldn't be unrealistic for Frk to get 12-15 goals on the 3rd line I mentioned (Neilsen and Svech). You may have more faith in Abby, Sheahan, or Helm than I do, but I don't see them scoring that much at this point. I don't think Frk is some star player in the making or anything, but I think he's got better finishing skills than those guys.
