Suzuki- Drafting him is ok, even though he's actually small, compared to the guy you said you didn't want because he's too small. CHL vs. SHL: CHL teams are stocked primarily with kids who will never play a single pro game in any league. SHL IS a pro league. Saying a junior league is better is like saying the current college football champ could beat an NFL team. Outside of a player or three, none of the kids will ever be as good as the professional players. Yes, CHL players tend to put up more points, but that's because of the styles of the leagues. The average CHL goalie isn't as good as the average SHL goalie, the defensemen make more mistakes because they're still learning, and the game is more focused of shooting. E has 3 years left. Honestly, if we protect Z, Mantha, AA, Nyquist, Tatar, Nielsen (NMC), and Sheahan, Mrazek, DD, Green, and XO then how bad can our loss be. We can't trade a 3rd to protect Jensen, then another to protect Sproul, then a 4th to protect Nosek etc etc etc. Just accept the loss, maybe they take Jimmy. Holland said he would not trade assets to protect, never said anything as far as I know of trading assets to dump salary. If we walk away from this sans E and lose a guy like nosek or Jensen, I'm pretty happy.

Was bored, so decided to check up on some of our prospects. We might have a diamond in the rough with this kid. He's 6'3" 195 lbs, plays both wing and C, just turned 20 in January, and was selected with our last pick in the 7th (197th overall) After the draft Hakan described him as a powerforward with a ton of offensive upside. He also said he's most comparable to Logan Brown, who was the big PWF a lot of teams were gunning for in the draft last year that went to Ottawa at 11th overall. Elfstrom did not appear on the NHL's CSS rankings at all in his draft year, and Andersson also stated that no other teams appeared to know about him. Yet Andersson himself had him ranked in his top 10 European players in that draft class, and was urging the Wings to take Elfstrom sooner than the 7th round. This year Elfstrom notched 43 pts in 36 pts GP (including 18 goals) for his Swedish team. A nice step up from 31 pts in 43 GP (11 goals) in his draft year. Perhaps this is a kid we should start talking about.

I'm hoping we trade one of Nyquist or Tatar for an upgrade on D, but if we're unable to trade one of them, I'd strongly consider trading one of Athanasiou or Svechnikov. Of course there's no reason one of the aforementioned, in a reasonable package couldn't bring back a top 4, so I'd go that route if possible. It also all depends on how we do in the draft this year (who's our 9th overall pick), and what other moves are made...

Agreed. I'm very excited for our young guys. I'm hoping AA and whoever we draft develop into high scoring guys as well.

Mantha and Larkin will be those guys for us in the next few years. Maybe not 90+ points, because scoring is down, but 70+ for both is definitely attainable.
