I love that youve decieded to run with this quote. Its from the radio interview a month back that I know we both listened to because you posted about it. So everyone knows... What essentially Holland said: I have no problem drafting smaller skilled Dmen, but one cant build a team out of only small Dmen. What this means in Leftys mind: If Holland doesnt draft a large Dman with the first pick in 2018 he is a liar and we are doomed to repeat the last 7 years of mediocrity, and signing a young goalie is proof of this. Youre absolutely right lefty, these truly are spoooooky times lol

I have a story to share, a TRUE story, no BS. I used to play driveway hockey with Tom Wilson in Canton when he was growing up. He was best friends in Canton with my godson who was a rather accomplished young netminder but yes, we'd play driveway hockey with tennis balls and so when i see him go off on Coburn I just laugh and laugh. Good game, go get your juice boxes, LOL

Porn stars partying with hockey players is nothing new. Just ask the Flyers when they had Richards and Carter. Maybe someone can post the pics for me.

Vegas would be a pretty cool story, and I'd like to see them win because it would piss a lot of people off. However, I have to root for Washington in this one. I'd like to see Ovechkin finally win a Cup (this may be his last chance), and I have 160 bucks on the Caps, so that's a bonus.

Just imagine what it would have won with an LED roof. Nobel prize for buildings, I bet.

Yeah. A roster made up of college kids who ended up mostly being fringe NHLers or less beating a roster full of future Hall of Famers and some of the best hockey players of all time. A team that was arguably the best international hockey team ever who beat a squad made up of NHL All-Stars (20 of whom are in the HOF) in 2 out of 3 games the year before. Yep. No big story here. Way overblown. Not deserving of a movie cause it wasn't true hockey players (Canadians). Not a "Miracle" at all. Sure, all good points, I just usually believe there's a reason for most things. I don't think Holland sat in a room with his staff and rolled dice to decide which goalie went to Toledo. I don't think Fischer, Havluj, and the rest of the scouting staff spent good man hours scouting this guy just to decide "lol screw Machovsky, lets make him rot in the minors" either. Maybe once they got their hands they felt he wasn't worth developing farther? Maybe, despite Machovsky's stats, they clearly agreed McCollum was a better player and was more valuable to the team if something happened to the starting goalies and they didn't want him abandoning for Europe if sunk in the ECHL. Maybe he's a talented player with zero work ethic? Maybe he's got a crap personality and his teammates and coaches hated him? Maybe he had to be disciplined by the team? Maybe he's a drunk? Maybe he's on drugs? None of this proves my point, I just tend to believe there's probably a reasonable explanation somehwere that we're just not ever gonna hear, because losing Matej Machovsky is so beyond insignificant it doesn't warrant one. It's either that or I'm totally misguided and Holland just sits around in his office all day with a cooking pot on his head banging it with wooden spoons until it's time to read goodnight moon and go night night. At the end of the day, like I was saying, this loss is so insignificant I don't really care too much. I agree this team should be developing its younger players, I'm sure we all do, but lets be honest, neither Machovsky or McCollum are ever gonna be NHL goaltenders. They're spare parts. Even Rybar is probably not gonna be much of anything. But new things are fun and we can hope! I'm not gonna judge the Red Wings brass on this one, its whatevs to me.

I just said I’d go with Murray because he’s younger and has had success. I get the injury concerns, but I’d go with the much younger starter personally. I can see why someone would agree with the argument for either though. I was mostly just trying to say the penguins deserve some credit for Vegas’ success without calling their move dumb the same way I would some of the other expansion draft moves that have led to Vegas’ success.

What a history between these cities in the Final, who can forget the Redskins beating Las Vegas in Super Bowl VIILXIMCLXI? UNLV beating the then-Washington Bullets in the 77 NBA FInals was a classic.

Can't believe it's been 20 years since the Wings and Caps met in the Finals. Doug Brown went into Beast Mode in that series.

I would say Dobson has the more mature, robust two-way/all-around game but isn't as naturally gifted in the areas that Bouchard is. But Dobson's bigger and is the better skater. *shrug* I give Bouchard the edge because where people have concerns about Bouchard's skating, I have concerns about Dobson's ability to drive possession and create offense and put up points at the NHL level -- and where skating is something that can be improved upon, you can't really teach the natural gifts that Bouchard offers. Honestly tho, it's a coin flip. Depends on what you value most in a high-end Wings defense prospect in the year 2018. That's exactly how I think of him -- Larkin, if Larkin were a defenseman. And significantly smaller.

I think Bouchard would be the best fit for Detroit, and the reason I believe so many "experts" see it that way is because Holland has said several times that you can't keep drafting small defensemen. For that reason, I'd be surprised if he went with Boqvist or Hughes, and I just think Dobson is in a tier below Bouchard. I'm with you though, I really hope we go with Bouchard. He's definitely the most NHL ready. He might not have quite the offensive ceiling as the two smaller guys, but his floor is higher in my opinion. He also has a more well rounded game, which is what you want in a top pair defender. I think he's a definite future top pair. The question is will he be a number one or number two...
