    2018 Prospects Watch

Tonight. Zadina. One goal. One assist. 3-2 Griffins That Zadina goal was the OT winner. Frk with identical numbers and the tying goal at 19:30-something. Really late in the game. Zadina seems to have responded well to better line mates. Cholowski assisted on Frk's GTG. Seems like the kids are cool with hanging out in Grand Rapids, getting good at hockey and stuff

I'll be here for this game tonight, wound up getting stranded for a few days in Nashville with car troubles but got back on Friday. It was a good time. Hoping for a strong effort from the Wings and the kids, but at this point, i'm pulling for a plummet in the stands the rest of the way and a better shot at Hughes. LGW!!

I was starting to fear you'd been mugged by a Preds fan! P.S. Go Flyers!

    2019 Trade Deadline

Not sure about that website, but yes it's true. Chris Johnston reported it on HNIC a couple hours ago.

I view Pastrnak as his ceiling. So let's say you stop digging your hole and we'll all move on. Cuz this is getting dumb.

It's frustrating. On the one hand, I can see us gettng back into Cup contention within the next couple of years. On the other hand, a lot would have to go right for that to happen. We're sort of in the same boat that the Leafs were in when they tanked for Matthews. Hopefully we'll have the same sort of luck in the upcoming draft.

    Rumors Thread

I'm not sure what that has to do with willingness to play talented kids over washed up vets... If anything, shouldn't the s***ty rebuilding team be more willing to play the kids over the talented playoff team? We constantly hear the same old bulls*** from management, how the days of overripening is over, we need to play the kids. They've had to at times, only because of injuries, but the moment all the vets are healthy, a kid is scratched / demoted to GR. Just to be clear, I'm okay with Cholowski and / or Hronek playing in Grand Rapids. I even said that I'd like to see them go on a Calder Cup run. I just think it's kind of silly the amount of bending over backwards this team / media / some fans are trying to do to justify playing bad veteran players over kids that occasionally make bad plays...

Not true. Beyond pick 20 of the 1st round, which is where those three picks could potentially be, you have approximately a 20% chance to draft a top six forward / top four defenseman. As much as people harp on Mantha, he is a legit top six winger. I'll take the sure thing, over the long odds of drafting another one that might be as good in 3-4 years... Like I said though, top 10 pick, sure. Anything beyond that, probably not. The only way I'm interested in trading a Mantha or Athanasiou is if we're getting an equally as good defenseman in return.

I think I would do it. I don't think Vegas makes it far this year. We would have guaranteed two 1st round picks for the next 3 years. Beyond that first round players are "usually" average/below average. 1st round picks more or less give you top 6 forwards / top 4 defensemen. But the sky is blue today.

Depends which team / picks we'd be getting. I think it would have to include at least one top 10 pick for me to pull the trigger.

I guess what I'm lamenting is that it probably doesn't matter who's on our blue line at the beginning of the 2019-20 season. From a fan's perspective, it would be deflating to see the exact same group return and to see one or both of Hronek and Cholowski start the season on the farm -- but, realistically, if we bring back the same D group, it'll simply mean that we didn't get Hughes or Kakko and we didn't get a marquee UFA and so the "We're hoping we can be better than we've been (but we're expecting another tough year)" plan is still on. Which is fine. Kinda depressing, but fine.

Don't give up lil buckaroo.... If you run the bottom 8 and calculate where they are all currently and based on a win for their games in hand the picture looks brighter for us. 3 - way tie for second place overall loser!! Plus if we lose Howard and Gus to trades we could see our chances increase ! I am going all in on the tank and will give up games like yesterday where we fight yet lose. The team isn't mailing it in totally and young guns are learning. So I am oddly okay with the current state of the team. But hey I lived through the Dead Wings era and this isn't even close to that pain so maybe that helps me cope.

Patrik Stefan was a bust. Alex Daigle was a bust. 2nd line winger at 6th pick is not. Big difference between a disappointment and a bust.

Yeah that's true and you are seeing glimpse of this team being able to put the puck in the net. Just need to tighten up the defense (make a couple trades, or sign) and goaltending.

In this market? You'd be lucky to get that much.

From what I've heard, he had extensive oral surgery done, and then had issues with that, which left him with infections and a very swollen face. Never thought of a goalie being the one on the team in need of having his teeth fixed. At least not one that played with a birdcage on his head. Not sure when he will be rejoining the team at Fox, if at all. He's also been pretty busy with The Saginaw Spirit over the last year, so he may have his plate as full as he wants it, currently. Though, I've never heard of Osgood not finding room on his plate at a buffet.
