I'm not super-high on him either. At the same time, though, we're definitely learning the true value of steady, dependable two-way defensemen this season. Hopefully he can be that kind of guy for us in this callup, or at least show signs that he's capable of being that kind of guy next season.

It's great to hear he'll be back soon. It's even better to hear the problem was a one-and-done kind of thing + the flu, as opposed to something that could have lasting effects and whatnot (e.g. concussion, leg breakage). HYPE!

well... at least the Buffalo fans are mad that their team is coasting and sucks. And they are drop-dead experts in losing and having a hideous team product in front of them. We are a bunch of rookies over here, with our team sucking. So, Sabres goalie is playing his very first NHL game. I am sure the Wings will hand him a perfect game with no goals against -- since we excel at doing that anymore. We do not like scoring goals, for some reason. I predict the Sabres will get to feeling much better about themselves here tonight. Helm on the first line? I am sobbing here... really? Oh... let's go, Red Wings...

Management f***ed up by not benching Green a few years back leading up to the deadline. Went from all but guaranteed a first round pick to him getting hurt and not being traded. And now look at him... Luckily Nielsen is approaching buyout affordability at this point. Literally just Abby that we're stuck with. Thankfully one bad contract does no damage. Franzen's deal is up this year too. Then it's one more year for Hank, and one more year for the Weiss buyout.

I sometimes forget that those expiring UFAs are even on the team. Normally I think of UFAs because they're going to be useful at the deadline, but not this year. This year I'm more excited about the possibility of trading AA, Fabbri, Bernier, Bowey, or Helm. They're the "have value" guys. The other losers are just treading water until they A) retire, or B) die. Either way, I don't care about them.

Just seeing Ericsson's name makes me so excited for training camp, when so much current dead weight does not return. We'll literally be down to just Abby and Nielsen. Sure we may take on a bad contract or two by the deadline, but at least they'd bring along picks or prospects with them.

Not really sure I understand bringing up Lindstrom and scratching Bowey. No knock on Lindstrom at all. By all accounts Wings' management is very happy with him. But I'd be pumping that Bowey trade value as much as I can. Hell, he'd be on my 2nd powerplay. If you really wanna give Lindstrom a look let Ericsson sit for a few games. Not going to hurt you at all.

Yeah, some are calling him injury prone, but I don't really buy that. If he kept having the same recurring injury, then yeah, maybe, but every injury has been different. I consider that to be more of a string of bad luck, similar to Helm a few years ago. He just needs to stop fighting, which kinda sucks, because I wanted nothing more than for him to become a Shanahan type power-forward, that can beat you with his skill and fists. He's going to have to leave that to the Witkowski's / McIlrath's of the team...

I don't understand the need to bring Zadina up here, but yes, I am that excited about Zadina, and he's looked great so far in the NHL. I'm just happy you didn't call him "Zagina"... Progress. The kid must be growing on you... Oh, I agree. I haven't ruled out steady shut-down 3rd pair defenseman, but unfortunately, I think that may be his ceiling. Every team needs those guys though, so hopefully he gets there.

You're talking to a guy that massively overvalues all draft picks... I agree that there's no rush in moving Hirose, but I do think there's some value there. His production in the NHL has been decent, considering his role and linemates, and he's been really good in the AHL, one of the better Griffins' forwards this season. I doubt many teams would have much interest in him specifically, but maybe he could be added in as a sweetener in some deadline trade...
