I think it's a talent problem and a psychological complex, and the two kind of compound each other. If you hold a lead in the 3rd, the other team's going to push, which means more ice time for their best players, which means...bad things.

I see Ehn as another Joakim Andersson, aka, replacement level, aka, he sucks. Claiming a player like Rattie would have zero impact on any of our top 6, or even top 9 players, this year or next. He would be taking a spot from someone on our 4th line. And who knows, he may find that scoring touch again. He had back-to-back 100+ point seasons in the W, was nearly a point per game in the A, and put up 9 points in 14 games with Oilers last season. There's zero risk or gamble in claiming a player off waivers. If he works out, great. If he doesn't, whatever. Waive him. Nothing lost.

I'm sorry but screw this staff. I'm still waiting for one of these so called journalists to ask this putz what dictates ice time on this team? Screw this guy and screw Holland. Both need to go or this will never change.

Its wasnt foolish to give Green that NTC. He has been our best D (when healthy). Not unusual to give vet guys with Greens pedigree a NTC. And no, I don't think he would waive it for LV TB or any other destination. He still has another year on the deal. He has a young family. I dont think he moves them across the country for one year, nor do I think he would live in a separate city from them for a year. Not everything is about money, cups, or fame for these guys. For some, their family comes first. I believe Green is one of those guys.

Right. So there's an intangible factor of trust and camaraderie, complimenting personalities and gameplay. I'm not in the locker room or watching practice. Are Kronwall, Green, and Vanek player-coaches? Are they showing up to practice early, setting good examples with conditioning and workouts, watching tape and giving pointers? These are things I can't answer. But they have to be considered by GMs. Those influences are huge. And they, or the the lack thereof, can have long term ramifications for our rebuild. So while it's easy for us to put a value on someone's play, it is difficult to measure their total team impact. I do think people overvalue players. Fans, I mean. I do think there is the occasional overpay, but to me it is more common to see players moved for what fans consider UNDER value. But in reality, there is so much that goes into building a team, it is hard to potentially give up a high draft pick with the possbility that the dynamic of the team is actually harmed and the outcome is not what they wanted. Particularly with 1-year rentals.

I could maybe get behind $5.25M x 3, assuming he continues producing like he has this season and also assuming we're not going anywhere for at least another season. I don't like those assumptions, though. I guess the most scathing thing I could say about a moderately big Nyquist extension is that it doesn't seem all that necessary and there's probably a lot of room there for regret. Word. Mantha and Athanasiou are the new Nyquist and Tatar. Let's continue phasing out the old guard and continue stockpiling picks and building for the future. PICK HYPE!

I don't think you should be allowed a #1 pick if you are within 5 years of your last cup win. Chicago and LA are pathetic. We took 7 years to start sucking after our last cup win.

I don't really know why Philly would be in "tank" mode though. They've got a decent enough team, on paper, and have some really good prospects in the pipeline. I mean, they might as well tank now that their season is lost, but they seem like a team that was set up for long term success.

Pit has been rumored to be interested in Howard. You may laugh, but even Ken Daniels eluded to it last night, there will be teams that will be asking about renting Kronwall. If Kenny is a good GM, if someone calls, Kenny should approach Kronner and give him the choice. Tell him "listen, Toronto wants you for a Cup run, if you want to get one more shot, I'll trade you there, if you'd rather just skate into the sunset in Detroit, that's cool too. It's your choice." I am good either way. I could see a 3rd round pick for Kronwall. I HOPE someone wants Ericsson, PLEASE!!! Daley would be much better on a better team in need of depth, he is called upon too much here. Nyquist and Howard MUST be dealt to get maximum return. 1st round for Nyquist, prospect for Howard.
