Zadina is a 19-year-old playing in the AHL. Most prospects don't go straight to the AHL after the draft. This means Zadina is a year or two ahead of the standard development curve; he's learning tough lessons about the rigors of pro hockey a year or two before most prospects learn these lessons. Despite the difficult transition from junior to pro, he's still managed to put up 20 points in 33 AHL games. If he can put up 20 points in 33 AHL games as a struggling teenage rookie, it's fair to expect good things from him in the future. Or, y'know, we could declare he's a bust and trade him ASAP. Tough call.

My point is that no matter how much any of us watch these prospects, I'll trust the pro's over anyone online. I mean, what's the most that any of us really watch any of these players? Most of us are basing our own opinions on the few times we might see them play, the highlight videos on youtube, and scouting reports from the pros. I was right there with you on the Rasmussen pick, and I didn't see him play a single game live. I based my opinion solely on the criteria I stated above. It's not like mackel is saying we should have taken a player instead of Zadina, like most of us thought when we took Rasmussen. He's flat out saying that he will be a bust, which is absurd, for the reasons you've stated above; his age and what he's been able to do in his first half season of pro hockey. I haven't watched as many Griffins games as I would like this season, but from the dozen or so that I have watched, Zadina has shown flashes of that elite skill set. I think he will be an elite, 35+ goal scorer in the NHL. Is it possible that he could fall short of that? Sure. But will he be a bust? Highly unlikely... Most of what I've seen and read from sources I trust, have said that they're not at all worried about Zadina. Therefore, I'm not at all worried about Zadina, until he gives me reason to be.

Vanek is pissing me off lately because he makes the most braindead plays you'll ever see but at the end of the night he's got a couple of points.

To be fair, I base my opinions of these kids largely on what I see of them, be it in person or through streaming services or both. So, while I don't really see eye-to-eye with mackel on Zadina, I wouldn't say I or anyone else here is any more credible than he is. I flipped out when we drafted Rasmussen and I hadn't even seen the kid play, so I really don't have much room to talk. I do think it's way too early to cast judgment on Zadina, though. Kid is 19 years old and he's putting up points in the AHL. That's not a bad thing. It's only "bad" relative to some people's expectations. Personally, I'd figured he'd be playing in the NHL by this point, but I was clearly way off in my assessment of how NHL-ready he really was. Could it be I was wrong about him in other ways, i.e. maybe he wasn't worth taking at 6th overall? It's certainly possible. The fact that most people thought it was a great pick at the time makes me feel better about it, but drafting is voodoo, so who knows. In conclusion, mackel eats poop.

This is a very bad team right now. No one is saying that Athanasiou is elite or anything, but he is definitely deserving of top six minutes over Vanek. If you disagree with that, you're either not watching the games, or just trolling Jonas...

Yeah, I'm kind of on the fence about Dach. There's a lot to like about him and I could see him becoming a Getzlaf-tier playmaking center with crazy-soft hands and great vision, but, at the same time, I could easily see him not really amounting to much. The skating isn't an issue if you're sold on his playmaking and his ability to slow down the game. If you're not totally sold? Then I probably wouldn't take him in the top five. He might end up sliding outside of the top ten altogether. Seems like Broberg would be a project. Great size, fantastic skating, but his puck skills are lacking.

In all seriousness the only two prospects in the top 10 that I have concerns regarding are Dach and Broberg. Dach seems limited in today’s NHL (not a great skater, limited offense) and there are concerns offensively with Broberg as well.

Do you mind adding a catch phrase at the start of the game before you say LGRW? I almost want you to say boogety boogety boogety, but I think you deserve your own!

I find it somewhat surprising that we are dead last. Everyone knew we weren’t going to have a good team but I think overall we have played pretty well this year. There were two early blowouts in the first seven games when we went 0-5-2 by the Bruins and Canadiens. Since then we have been close in every single game even against the upper eschelon teams. All of our younger guys are scoring and we seem to have found a couple of good rookie defensemen. Our prospect pool seems good at forward and defense. Even 3 or 4 of our junior goalies are having stellar seasons. A good draft this year and we will looking pretty well I think

I was at the game yesterday. There is times in the first 2 periods where I'm watching and can't for the life of me figure out why we are so bad. Then I looked at the scoreboard after 2 and realized we had 30 shots on net, carried the play and had 2 goals. They had us right where they wanted us because we can't put a team away and we cant hold a lead on the road and poooof. We end up losing. Blashill is terrible. During the TV time out he doesn't say a thing. Kronwall, Nielsen, Larkin do all the talking. That says a lot to me. Kronwall, Green and Hronek were our best 3 d. The other 3 are just filling space. Ericcson, DK and Jensen are 3rd pairing d men. Top 6 on forward possessed the puck well but too much passing. It was painful. AA is basically playing 4th line minutes and going forward it does nothing for his development. Last thought : The western conference is a dumpster fire. The Canucks are bad and they are in a playoff spot.

I'm just glad the Oilers aren't getting #1s anymore. That was annoying.
