If Yzerman could get Mantha for 5.5 x 5 and AA @ 4.5 x 3? Those would be great value contracts (if they can both stay healthy)

I've seen a lot of people use the excuse: Wingers shouldn't be skating down to hit people behind the net. Their job is to defend up high. Torres used to make that play and he was a head hunter. I totally disagree with this notion. I agree that wingers probably used to be taught not to make that play, but this isn't 2005 NHL anymore. It's all about attacking the puck carrier and layering your defense, so that there's constant pressure on the puck carrier. If the primary defender gets beat, someone else swarms in to support and pick that guy up. Essentially trading who you are defending. If you re-watch the play, Giordano is getting beat behind the net. Normally Lindholm should be there to help him out, but he has swung up high to cover McDavid on the Oilers cycle. Tkachuk is in the best position to make a defensive play for his team at that moment, and so he does. If he doesn't the much stronger Kassian is going to clear past Giordano, and when he looks up he's going to see the much faster McDavid streaking down the middle with Lindholm on his heels. By coming down to support with an aggressive hit Tkachuk made an astute defensive play, and may have saved Calgary a goal against. Honestly Tkachuk's anticipation and timing on the play were pretty impressive. I don't think there's a lot of wingers who would have recognized just how much of a dangerous situation Calgary was in before that hit was laid. If Ovechkin had made the same play people would be praising him for his defensive instincts. But it's Tkachuk.

Haven't heard/read much if anything...Probably having a good laugh knowing Tkachuk is in Kassian's head.

The Yzerplan has been made clear. So what could be next? "So what could be next" Fuqqing what lol? This frat bro needs another English class if he's gonna make it in journalism. God he even opens his first line with this We acquired Fabbri the other day from Detroit? What? He continues: He's right. That is exactly what Fabbri need. Fabbri need big time minute. Play gud for wheel time CRL think. Is there literally no editor on staff at WIIM? Does anyone read anything before it goes up? I'm not reading anymore of this garbage. I get better takes from you guys.

Yeah, I mean I got that feeling too. Especially after Yzerman took over. Doesn't really fit into the "compete" ethos. But I also don't see the organization mismanaging him as an asset. And right now he's got far less value than he might, at say, the draft. I think they give him through the end of the season to rebound statistically. But if he doesn't then they're in a pickle because you've got to trade him or re-sign him. At that point, re-signing him might be the way to go because he'd be cheaper and HOPEFULLY he'll regain some of his offense next year so he can be traded then. Long story short, I agree that he doesn't seem in their long term plans. But signing him to a 4-5 year deal at a good cap hit might help facilitate a trade down the line.

No. Abby is paid to be a punching bag. Not a fighter. No. We're not supposed to search for it. You're supposed to link it. So then Muzzin signed July 1st comfirmed?

I don’t use Twitter. I can’t stand it lol. I see that CRL posted a tweet from HSJ though. You have to think he wants to come back this season, missing the entire season is going to kill his leverage in negotiations. Based on reports, I’m guessing he has a really bad scapula injury.

Just wanted to say the state of the fanbase seems to be in very good shape despite the lack of Wings posters on the web these days. Went to this one and it was like 60% Wings fans at the game and around the bars after. There were more Wings chants than Avs ones. Kinda sad cause it's mostly just cause Michigan sucks and everyone leaves and goes to better cities. But we're taking Red Wings fandom with us and spreading it like a disease. I talked to so many people who had no connection to Detroit but still loved the teams cause xyz reasons. We're taking over the world. I'd almost say we're the Steelers of hockey.

Every tragedy is an opportunity. Mantha's not gonna get a huge contract now, in a season where we didn't exactly need him to get us wins anyway. Hopefully we can get him signed cheap now and he continues to be a ppg production player later. This is kinda why I wanted Witter re-signed thou. He costs nothing, and seemed like a good Michigan hillbilly. Coulda been out punching bag for years if needed. Yzerman drafted him too...

Of course you do it, I've been saying this exact same thing for years. Might as well weaponize the HYPE around the consensus 1st overall. Particularly when 2nd overall picks are often as good, or better, than first overall guys. And you'd be getting other high end talent on top of it. Think about it this way, either Crosby or McDavid has been the best player in the world for the last 15 years or so. How many Cups do they have combined? Three. So the best player in the world won three of the last 15 Cups. Conversely, the best TEAM in the world has won 15 of the last 15 Cups. Fans DRAMATICALLY overestimate the value of the best individual players. Another way of looking at it: Connor McDavid is WAY better than Jack Eichel right? And yet, McDavid's presence, along with that of a bunch of other top picks, has not made Edmonton any better than Eichel has made Buffalo. Or rather, hypothetically could Edmonton have been any better off if they'd traded the 1st for the 2nd+++, drafted Eichel (who's now a legitimate star in his own right), and taken anything of value that Buffalo had to offer (especially draft picks and defense)? Hard to say? But it's worth pondering. Edit: It's also absurdly good strategy because you get to drive an extremely hard bargain in the trade, and if they don't take it, then your consolation prize is THE 1ST OVERALL PICK.

Detroit would get waaaay more than that for #1 overall. Remember the haul Quebec got for Lindros? We're talking #2 overall this year + a lottery pick next year + a Caulfield type prospect at least.

As Wayne Gretzky once said (or at least surely thought), "you don't lose 100% of the fights you don't get into".

So this is the 3rd year where he's basically f***ed his season by fighting for no good reason? Awesome. There's dumb, and then there's Brendan Smith dumb, and then there's this guy.
