Maybe Abdelkader could get a job as an organist? Heard that he is real gud at pulling the piano.

I think I remember posting before the start of the season that people here in sweden are really hyped for the kid. Like you, I had no real expectations or hopes for this season other than him being healthy. Now I'm working real hard on tempering my expectations of what he can become.

Nothing. Mantha should and likely will get significantly more money and term than Bertuzzi. He's a much more important player to the future of this team. Mantha is a legitimate top line winger, that can drive offense. Bertuzzi is a middle six complimentary winger, that needs help to produce offense.

I don't think you have to go all Mike Milbury on your players. I fairly confident Stevie handled this hearing just as classy as he does everything else. Just state your case. Show them the numbers that supports your claim. In arbitration you don't have to concern yourself about the future of the player as only 1 or 2 years can be rewarded. So any discussion about how the team views the player long term shouldn't take place at all. It's all about next year. (I don't know anything about baseball but that's an interesting read. Thanks.)

Or Raymond. I'll probably be watching the Berggren vs Veleno game, but flicking back and forth between the three games. I really wish they would spread the times out a little...

It's GREAT to see Berggren dominating! He's had really bad injury luck and, right or wrong, that's led me to adjust my expectations for his career trajectory. I was hoping he *might* bounce back with a nice full 2020-21 SHL campaign and then maybe we talk about bringing him over at some point in 2021-22. If he keeps dominating like this and he ends up coming over post-2021 trade deadline, I'm a very happy camper.

Super smart pandemic or not for where we’re at, especially with the way our longer term deals have had a way of completely backfiring quite often lately.

Even tho I don't like this going to arbitration thats works for the Red Wings. I think it's safe to assume term was the hangup between Detroit and Bertuzzi. “When you get into the longer-term contracts, generally you’re locked into them,” Yzerman said. “We’re just trying to move cautiously. In the climate we’re in, with uncertainty about our salary cap for years to come (it remained flat at $81.5 million), we just felt this was a good way to go. We’re prepared to sign players to longer-term contracts, but we’re going to be careful, including our own players. We’re going to move slowly for the time being and be careful about handing out long-term deals.” Steve Yzerman: Red Wings looked to upgrade every position in free agency

Wings just bought out Abdelkader and are on the hook for the next 6 years on that one. Still have one more season of Weiss' buyout. The expansion draft is coming up and the Wings must expose 2 qualifying forwards. There are no kids that should be on the roster who won't be because of Nielsen. Buying him out now takes up cap space for the next 4 years. But we should still do it now because you think he sucks. Ok. How about: Wings wait until after the expansion draft to buy him out. 1. His cap hit THIS year isnt hurting the team. 2. Any kids who SHOULD be on the roster still can be. 3. Nielsen can be used as one of the 2 qualifying forwards exposed at the expansion draft, protecting a more promising, younger forward. 4. Weiss' contract will be off the books after this season. 5. Buying out Nielsen with only 1 year left will then only count against the cap for 2 seasons instead of 4. This is why it would be smarter to wait.

So, instead of increasing our odds at the draft lottery, since, you know, 26 other teams got to play for a chance at Lord Stanley, including the lottery winner, our reward for sucking is an extended training camp....gee NHL, these 7 teams thank you oh so much for giving us a perk.
