#2339121 Detroit Listed as a Bandwagon Fan Base

Posted by vladdy16 on 10 January 2013 - 05:38 PM

Honestly, I think a big part of this is that the Wings have been so successful for so long.  People my age generally aren't doing message boards - I just happen to be more hip than most.  :)  My generation is the die hard generation; no one dares question us.  Anyone born after 1980 is going to be hard pressed to not be called a bandwagoner.

#2338778 I need a prayer answered, please.....no toot-toot whistles.

Posted by vladdy16 on 09 January 2013 - 09:39 AM

I'm all for the whistles.  Yeah they're a little annoying, but at the same time anything that gets fans into the game I generally support.  So whatever, if the whistle creates a more festive atmosphere then by all means lets do it.  And let's be honest, Wings fans have been watching the team win for so long that they've become fairly stoic anyway, might as well do something to lighten up.

The only way those whistles will make the atmosphere festive is the applause generated by someone pummeling whoever is blowing said whistles.

#2337022 NHL submits offer to NHLPA - **Suspension Warning Post #70 & #273*

Posted by vladdy16 on 29 December 2012 - 11:12 AM

The owners vs. players debate has played out ad nauseum - please don't start it up again.  We all know where everybody stands and no one's mind is going to change.  Please discuss the details of the offers only.

#2336695 MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Posted by vladdy16 on 25 December 2012 - 10:36 AM

We got about two inches of snow last night - just enough for a nice white Christmas. Hope everyone is safe and warm - but not too warm - and has a great holiday.

Found this pic on my cell this morning. Wanted to share as there is nothing better on the planet than playoff hockey and this is as close as we're going to get for now.
Merry Christmas, all!

#2336453 Instagram user? Might want to cancel your account by 1/16/13...

Posted by vladdy16 on 20 December 2012 - 11:37 AM

I'm not an Instagram user, but wow, are you kidding me?

Good for Instagram. They offer an amazing service for free. If they want to use yours pics, they should be allowed to. At least they warned you in advance.

"but the photos I take are MY property and mine alone." - FAIL. Whenever you upload something onto the internet, you might as well say goodbye. Who knows how many people have copied your photos, and who knows what have been done with them. If you want to keep them private, don't put them on the internet. Are you new to the interwebz or something? You should know better.

Why the hell should they compensate you? You're using their service for free, now it's time for them to receive something from you.

I hope you don't have a Facebook account, and if you do, why haven't you deleted it yet? I'm sure they've done more than you can imagine with your information.

*if I get a warning point for this, that is complete BS. This is a forum, and I'm just voicing my opinion*

And there are ways to express your opinion that don't involve being an ass.

#2336383 Cobo Joe's FanAid

Congratulations to Shannon on being recipient number 2 of FanAid. Stopped by Cobo Joe's today, had a quick cocktail and some fun conversation. She is awesome! I highly recommend going down there and saying hi. They are not open at night unless there's a concert or some other function happening at the Joe, but they're open til at least 4 during the day.

You have exceedingly high standards... I’d go just for dollar hot dog night.

Murph has cornered that market.

What if there is a hockey season this year... and the Wings make it to the finals against Crosby and the Penguins and go to a game 7... and you have the opportunity to see Bettman forced to give out the cup to the wings again... WOULD YOU GO?!! :D

Edit: in my fantasy scenario, the tickets are also affordable!

In my fantasy, the tickets are free, Mike Babcock picks me up in a limo, I sit on the bench for the game, retired players or those on IR serve me free cocktails and munchies and then I go party with the team afterwards. THEN I'd go.

#2335781 13 pro teams running out of fans

Posted by vladdy16 on 10 December 2012 - 01:05 PM

I keep posting on forums, don't be a dumbass and boycott hockey if it does return this season. The sport is already damaged from all of this, the day hockey returns and Center Ice becomes available i'll buy it as I normally do.

Let's face facts, yes this sucks, yes i'm mad, yes many fans are lost, but I still have a love affair with the sport. The word Hockey was in my wedding vows (seriously) and my better half understands that I can't live without it and it's so much more to me than just a sport.

We'll get through this, and hopefully there's not too much of a decline in fan following, although i'm pessimistic about that. I just want hockey. Now.

Santa if you are reading this, making this wish comes true makes up for the lack of a slip and slide in 1989. Still bitter.

So anyone who doesn't feel the same way you do is a dumbass? You may not like the fact that MANY fans are going to boycott in response to the lockout, but they are entitled to their opinion just as you are entitled to yours. People will do what they will, and name calling isn't going to change that. If you can't see the reasons and potential benefits associated with boycotting, far be it from me to try to explain it to you.

I'm shocked that only 2 hockey teams cracked the top 13. I didn't realize Dallas was having attendance problems to that extent either.

#2334930 Another solid reason to hate on Cindy Crosby

This is just a reason to pity him, not hate him.

#2334870 Cobo Joe's FanAid

Posted by vladdy16 on 28 November 2012 - 01:21 PM

I find myself with the teeniest bit of extra cash, so I thought I'd go downtown around the Joe and hand a few bucks to those who are working, or trying to work, during the lockout. If anyone wants to contribute to the effort, you can PayPal me at wingsdiva@gmail.com. I figure bartenders, waitresses and busboys depend almost solely on tips to get by and with no games, there aren't a lot of customers. I haven't figured out a way to help out the Joe workers, but I'm sure Cobo Joe's could use a little leg up. And what could be cooler than having a non-customer slip you a 20 for no reason?
I'm going to try to do this every week until the lockout ends.

There is absolutely no excuse for driving drunk these days. Call a freakin' cab.

#2333627 Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

Posted by vladdy16 on 06 November 2012 - 06:32 PM

Still elitist, but good try,
---
Lets use your logic and talk about the teams that have been losing money (looks to be about 18 of them according to Forbes.) Screw all the teams that aren't able to make money. "They can put an NHL team anywhere they want as long as they can support themselves" So, goodbye to:

Phoenix, Florida, Nashville, Columbus, Carolina, which would make you happy. However, you also lose St. Louis, Winnipeg, NYI, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, New Jersey, San Jose, Anaheim (don't you live in the CA area? Would suck to lose your opportunity to go see games, no?) Washington, and the Cup Champion LA Kings. Man, what a great league with lots of exposure that would be./s

Revenue sharing is something built in to the league. All of the major sports league incorporate it. Most of the teams I listed would take advantage of it if they were able. However, there are restrictions that prevent some teams from utilizing the program, which would help them at least break even. Not every team can be the Wings or the Leafs with so much tradition that you have a built in fanbase, no matter how the team performs. It takes time, and lean seasons sometimes, to build up the tradition.

But, what do I know? I'm just one of the fans that could have given a crap about hockey growing up, due to no teams even remotely close to me, but became a rabid fan once hockey became available to me.

Nobody loses a team that is self-sufficient. The Wings didn't make money for decades; they're still here. I've been a hockey fan probably longer than you've been alive. I don't care if the game grows. It was better before it didn't They should have stopped with the 1970 expansion. The league started in 1926. Revenue sharing didn't occur until over-expansion and teams couldn't generate revenue. That's 79 years of good hockey and growth even without Sidney Crosby; I fail to see how revenue sharing is built in. And no, I'm not in the Cali area anymore, but if I were, I'd still hold the same opinion. And just because "everyone else does it," doesn't mean it's the good or right thing to do.
