#2316617 Buck Wild?

Posted by vladdy16 on 06 July 2012 - 10:50 PM

Realistically, what kind of a team can Holland ice these days that will get fans excited? We've been fortunate enough to ice some of the best players to ever grace the NHL, and there was never anywhere to go but down eventually. For those of you fortunate enough to have never seen the Wings struggle before, this is the beginning of a very hard reality. Sorry. We're here for you.
Not to say that the Wings are going to be cellar dwellers, but our lofty expectations are going to come down a notch or two. I'm still extremely grateful for the last 20 years and thrilled I got to see it. Can't wait to see it again!

#2314576 Ryan Suter agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild

Posted by vladdy16 on 04 July 2012 - 11:54 AM

Darn, drat and double darn! Truth is, Suter signing with Minnie is the second best-case scenario for us. A mediocre team got better instead of a real current competitor getting better, or at a minimum, just screwing the Wings. Preds got a little weaker, NJ lost a captain; they're not any better off than we are. If we can't have him, glad it was Minnesota.

#2311668 Ilitch, Chelios to fly to Suter, Holland to fly to Parise

Whether we sign either of them or not, you can't say they're not trying, and that's all we can ask at this point.

Honestly, I think our slight decline (for lack of a better word) will work in our favor. There's more ice time and room for these players to be a huge part of the team now, and everyone knows Detroit treats their players well. It just depends really on what these guys are looking for and whether we can give it to them or not.

#2310348 A Message to Ryan Suter and Zach Parise (video)

Shouldn't have watched that at work. Now all my coworkers are wondering what the chortling sound coming from my cubicle is all about...

Not really. They're used to random noises coming from your cubicle.

Matt, that video was awesome covered in awesome with a creamy awesome filling. I have shared that with every person I know. Thanks!

#2309258 2012 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

Posted by vladdy16 on 23 June 2012 - 03:08 PM

A few hours ago this is what a Flyers beat writer tweeted:

Randy Miller@RandyJMiller
Here at NHL Draft hearing Suter is going to sign with Detroit and Parise will go to Penguins #Flyers

If we can get Suter and Semin I would definitely not be disappointed... Don't get me wrong I would prefer Parise. But we'll see, should be fun.

Of the two, I would prefer Parise as well, but the Wings needs at this point dictate Suter signing is more imperative. I have my fingers crossed.

Is there a swear filter now?

There's so much off topic conversation going on in here my choices are to remove the entire thread or just ask everyone to get back to the topic at hand, please. Any more discussion about fandom should be taken to PMs. Thanks!

#2308009 Darren Helm signs 4 year extension

Posted by vladdy16 on 19 June 2012 - 10:48 AM

Not Bad.

That was damn funny!

I think this is a genius contract on Holland's part. Assuming the best, Helm can do nothing but add huge value to this team. All he needs to do is learn to bury those chances his speed is so good at creating and we're golden.

#2307833 League takeover of cash-strapped Devils may be inevitable

Posted by vladdy16 on 18 June 2012 - 11:52 AM

Can someone please explain to me how the league taking over ownership of bankrupt teams is good for anyone other than the fans of those teams? All the other owners are losing money twice - once through revenue sharing and once through absorbing the day-to-day losses of those teams. If I were an NHL owner, I'd block the league taking over any more teams. Hockey is a business, right? So if I own Best Buy and ABC Warehouse is going bankrupt, why in the world would I agree to pump money into their store and not change the products at all? I can see maybe agreeing to a short-term loan to get them over the hump, but we've owned the Yotes for 3 years, and now there's talk about funding the Devils as well? Whatever happened to capitalism? This is the very definition of socialism, which people apparently don't mind in athletics, but abhor the idea when it comes to human beings.

#2307579 Winter Classic Prices Announced

Posted by vladdy16 on 15 June 2012 - 06:50 PM

Lets not kid ourselves; Mike Ilitch, and his beloved Detroit Red Wings are great at making a profit for themselves; this fleecing of Toronto Maple Leaf fans - aka - the Winter Classic - is a prime example of such.

I'm of the opinion Mike Ilitch could care less as to who shows up wearing whatever color of sweater - just that they pay full price for the ticket.

And I don't have a big problem with that. Would it be nice if ticket prices were more reasonable? Absolutely. But the Wings were hemorrhaging money when he bought them, and he invested millions of his own $ to get the Wings where they are today. It's time to reap the rewards of his faith, effort and open checkbook as far as I'm concerned. After all, hockey is a business, not just entertainment, as I am so often reminded here.
Also, word on the street is he is willing to foot the majority of the bill, if not all, for a new arena, which many here have been begging for for a long time. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not buying enough Little Caesar's to help him out with that.

#2307115 Zach Parise

Please comment on the topic at hand and not only about the validity or lack thereof of the thread. If you don't have an opinion about someone else being interested in Parise as well, please move along.

#2306661 Message to Ken Holland...

Posted by vladdy16 on 11 June 2012 - 04:31 PM

This post is classless and not nearly as intelligent as you had hoped. Normally, I wouldn't care, but Mods shouldn't be taking personal attacks against other posters.
And big deal, he would prefer Weber over Suter. So would I. Can you ask Ken Holland to send me a sarcastic letter?

I hate to burst your self-righteous bubble, but there's no personal attack in here. It is, however, oozing sarcasm, which last I checked wasn't against forum guidelines.

I do agree that if the Wings sign Suter, that makes the thought of Weber being a Wing even more distasteful to the Preds, if that's at all possible. They will break the bank to keep him, not having learned from Columbus' mistake.

#2306262 2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils

Posted by vladdy16 on 09 June 2012 - 09:02 PM

I don't know that the Kings are dominating overall - from what I've seen, they're playing much like the Wings, moments of brillance, moments of sitting back. And that "power play" was all the Devils.

Maybe I'm wrong and just expected the Kings to come out and spank NJ all the way to the draft and so am disappointed, but NJ's defense definitely came to play tonight. Their checking is phenominal.

#2306250 2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils

Posted by vladdy16 on 09 June 2012 - 07:17 PM

If the Kings end up winning the cup (which I am sure they will) I would like it to be in LA actually. Winning the cup on home ice is just a million times better, having your fans there going crazy. If the Devils can pull a miracle they would obviously be winning on home ice as well.

I would absolutely have preferred the Kings to win at home as well, and to get that sweep. However, the more I think about it, it wouldn't break my heart to have them celebrate on NJ home ice, just to satisfy the evil part of me. It would definitely be better for the Kings to take it at home though.

#2306193 Winter Classic Prices Announced

Posted by vladdy16 on 09 June 2012 - 12:17 PM

Absolutely. I had planned on 150 per ticket, but it looks like the 190 is where I'd like to be. I have no issue with that whatsoever. Hey, if the car payment is late, who cares? It's the Winter Classic with Detroit and Toronto.
