#2333586 Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

Posted by vladdy16 on 06 November 2012 - 12:08 PM

I sure am glad you're not the Commissioner. I can't imagine how many people who love hockey would never be exposed to it because of where they were born or grew up. What an elitist attitude. "You're from Texas/Florida/California, you don't deserve exposure to hockey."

It's not elitist - it's realist. They can put an NHL team anywhere they want as long as they can support themselves, not go into bankruptcy, get bought by the NHL, and not get revenue sharing. I have no respect for any team that takes revenue sharing. If you want a team, pay for it yourself. I support the Wings, not the Coyotes, Panthers, Preds, etc.

#2333383 NHL Officially Cancels 2013 Winter Classic

Posted by vladdy16 on 03 November 2012 - 10:57 AM

Eh... I know Toronto and Detroit fans feel really shafted due to the obvious, but let us hope things in the end will be worth the wait.

Screw that. That was the song and dance we got in 2005. We'll get it again in another 5 years or so when the CBA that they finally commit to expires. Part of me wants to go back to the 80s. We sucked, but there was no lockout looming. Ever.
Another part of me wants to travel back in time and give Gary's parents a condom.

This game was HUGE for me. HUGE. Locking all of us out and losing the WC is just too much.

Fehr - 1
Bettman - 3

AND the players offered to start the season WITHOUT a CBA; owners said no. The preponderance of fault lies with the owners on this one.

#2333067 Winter Classic Ticket Holders, What are you going to do?

Posted by vladdy16 on 30 October 2012 - 07:10 PM

I feel bad. I sold Matt my two seats on top of his for a chance to get better ones on StubHub, so he's really stuck. I won't be going now. IF it's on and IF I watch it (and it's Wings/Leafs, so no matter how pissed I am, there's a pretty good chance) I'll watch it from the warmth and comfort of my sister's couch with her big screen HD TV.

#2332215 NHL Fan Lockout Pledge

Posted by vladdy16 on 19 October 2012 - 08:54 AM

I think they were really worried about fan reaction in 1994...scared to death of it. Somewhat worried in 2004 if they lost the season, but I think there is much less worry on either side now because history has shown that the fans will come back.

The problem with the plan is that the fans won't follow through, they will come back as soon as games are played again.....if not, are they really fans? If they stay away, how does that help the game? I suppose it could help when the next CBA is about to expire, but that would only work if the fans that decide to punish them will stay away forever....which is only the case if they are not fans.....so...again, what's the point?

I must disagree. I have been a Wings fan since Gordie was still good. I wear Wings gear 365 days a year. I eat Little Caesars, especially when new contracts are signed (see Pavel and Hank) to help pay those contracts. I attend games every chance I can afford them. My family had season tickets since 1982. The Wings/Leafs Winter Classic is the game of a lifetime for me. I have poured most of my disposable income into this team. I think I can safely call myself a true fan.
This lockout has, shall we say, dampened my enthusiasm. If a deal IS done this year, as much as it pains me, I will not attend the Winter Classic. I have begun purchasing non-Wings related winter clothing. Some who know me see this as a sign of the apocalypse. I don't know that I will even watch any games, but I won't rule out the possibility. That not watching is even a consideration for me would have been inconceivable 3 months ago. 3 lockouts has taken its toll. Being a fan of hockey has not come cheap; why am I going to hand over thousands of dollars to a sport that doesn't give a s*** whether I attend or not, outside of the profit pool?
If, as a fan, I can't have a CBA with the NHL guaranteeing me they won't cancel out the sport I've spent a lifetime loving and supporting, then for now, I'm not giving them a dime. I need a new computer anyway. Not buying Wings sweatshirts should cover that.

Whatever CBA they come up with this time around, we're just going to be right back here in 5 years. Unless the fans hit them where it hurts, they won't start negotiating until the 11th hour again.
These bastards forced me to check in on BASEBALL. Not sure how long it's going to take me to forgive them for that.

#2328736 Abdeklader signs 4 year extension, $1.8m cap hit

Agreed. I think this is a perfect signing. Even if Abby doesn't live up to his original potential, he will be at least an upgraded Draper. Me likey.

George Malik has coined my new favorite term - "TaliBettman." LOVE IT! Everything about this offseason has been, well, off. Signings taking forever, CBA talks moving along like a rookie trying to learn how to drive a clutch. Can't take a whole lot more.

#2323617 Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?

Posted by vladdy16 on 02 August 2012 - 04:26 PM

Oh, that that unnamed team would have presented a sizable offer.

Am I the only one who if I have disdain for a player, the disdain remains even after they sign with the Wings? To me, they're either a good/respectable/desirable player and potential acquisition or they're not, no matter who they play for.

I don't think Holland has lost any "moxie". I think he miscalculated on things like availability and timelines and is guilty of being unprepared, but once he woke up, he did everything he could. That lapse in judgement aside, I'll still keep him. For now. *evil grin*

Vladdy will not be playing, he will have an ambassadorial position per the article.

Wings have a highlight video of the Russians posted. Watch it here.
Good times.

#2323429 Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Posted by vladdy16 on 01 August 2012 - 02:01 PM

As someone who disagrees and would retire his number, I can't take issue with a single thing you said, an entirely valid opinion.

That being said, if you are of that mindset, then there is no way Brendan Shanahan or Chris Osgood could possibly have their numbers retired either. As long as the Wings are consistent on that definition of "royalty", I could accept Yzerman and Lidstrom, only, as the Wings' definition of "royalty" for this recent era of success.

Also, if Yzerman and Lidstrom are the only current Wings players equivalent to Delvecchio, Lindsay, etc. up in the rafters, then I think you have a really hard time arguing that Datsyuk and Zetterberg are deserving of that honor, unless they win more Cups.

Part of the reason I struggle with this is you can look at guys like Delvecchio, Lindsay, Sawchuk, and these guys were definitely not the "best", or often even the "2nd best" player on their teams at that time, yet they are in the rafters. And you could argue that the 1950's Red Wings were a great team in an era where it was MUCH easier for one team to sustain success. The Wings ripped off 4 Cups in 12 seasons, and did it amongst 25 to 29 other NHL teams. There's no "right answer" to this, but I don't think you can diminish the value of guys like Fedorov simply because they weren't the "best" guy on a team that obviously needed a lot of really great players to succeed as they did.

Agreed, the others mentioned don't deserve the honor either. Yet.

Yzerman and Lidstrom bled red and white. Not only is Fedorov's work ethic able to be called into question, his loyalty is as well. I don't fault him for signing the Carolina offer sheet - I do fault him for holding the Wings hostage by holding out and making his displeasure known on the ice. He always came across as a prima donna, which is probably why so many are against his number being retired. That's not the Red Wings way.

#2323283 Operation Bobblehead - Alumni style

Posted by vladdy16 on 31 July 2012 - 06:25 PM

The DRW are asking fans to vote on who they would like to see a bobblehead of. They are going to release 6 this season of former Red Wing greats. Take a wild guess as to who I voted for. :)

Vote here.

#2322770 Money On The Board Conundrum

Posted by vladdy16 on 28 July 2012 - 10:54 PM

It can't be the multiple sources as they weren't even aware of the checks. They never processed my credit card. That's one-stop shopping there. I checked their website today; it looks like the gold outing is still happening and they've announced their grant recipients for this year, so the charity is still functioning. I am not of a mind to beg them to "approve" our donation. It's beyond me why they wouldn't just take the money and say thanks.
