Not that I don't appreciate A LOT of the video work that you do but, not that you've even broken this hit down, if you look at video hard enough, you can see whatever you want to see out of it. The game is played in a speed faster than replay, screenshots, and slow-motion... There are certainly a lot of players out there that deliberately make bad decisions or premeditated actions on the ice that lead to injury. Other players also make split second decisions that involve injury whether there is intent or not. As I said in the previous thread, I think Chara's received all the punishment he'll get. 5 minutes for interference. Game Misconduct. I'll leave it at that... Except to disagree and say that Claude was a terribly dirty player... although just like Chara's hit tonight, I'm not sure he meant to rub Draper out into the boards like that.

I predict we take a 4-0 lead into the 3rd period, but lose the game 12-5

this looked like interference and no more... i know this wont be a particularly popular opinion. this play happens once a year and everyone mentions how dumb the rink design is and then nothing gets done. another link to the video since that ones gone.....

But it wasn't anywhere else on the ice. Chara knew where he was when he made that hit and should have done a better job controlling it. I have never played hockey, but I think that a professional player should know how to deliver a safe hit so that he can accomplish what he wants without risking real injury to the other player. I guess for me it's all about that last shove before Pacioretty goes down.

Only one suspension in his career so far, and also one automatic instigator penalty taken away in last year's playoffs. Chara gets off with a warning, Pacioretty will be lucky to get out of this without a serious neck injury. This is why in games the league knows will be intense, hard-hitting and borderline dirty, they should put a "Pierre McGuire buffer zone" between the benches, so if this hit happens again, McGuire the only one hurt.

I don't think this one is so black and white (enforcer v. anti-enforcer). The play was certainly dirty, but it is largely a question of intent. I think McKenzie has it correct in saying, "The hit was late. It was interference. It caused injury and while the design configuration of the boards and glass played a pivotal role in the severity of the injury, the responsibility is still with the hitter. So two games is my call. Those of you saying that Chara knew he was hitting him into the stantion are crazy. At the pace this game is played, Chara was simply trying to not allow Pacioretty to get by him and grab the puck. This was not a dirty hit. Interference maybe, but Chara certainly did not plan for this to happen. I remember my days playing hockey, I hit someone the exact same way. It was not on purpose, I had no idea the stantion was there, but it was one of the biggest hits of my hockey career *The kid I hit was not injured

The league can fine tune the rulebook and tweak the rink designs over and over and you're still going to see players getting severely injured on borderline plays. In the end it comes down to respecting each other and hitting to make an effective play, not to injure somebody. Its a shame that so few players practice this philosophy.

I'm sorry, but Chara needs a heavy suspension for that bulls***. He looks up to see where he was on the rink and sees the stanchion and throws him into it. It's bulls*** and uncalled for. I hope to god Pac's ok. That was horrific.

As ugly as that hit was, it was more carelessness then an intent to injure.

I don't think Chara meant to do that; it's just an unlucky situation. No suspension should be given.

I'm so sick of the argument of whether said player is a dirty player or not every time this kind of stuff happens. It should not matter whether Chara is a dirty player or if it is his "style", a dirty play is a dirty play and should be treated as one even if the accused player is a clean player. You Can't go and murder someone and then say oh yeah but it's not my style I've never done it before and get off the hook.

You got guys like Clutterbuck, who is out with an "upper body injury" aka concussion from Gillies, and Tangoradi who is out with a concussion from Gillies and we just learned that Probert died from all the concussions he had and Gillies is still defended by people on this board because he's a pure goon. What's noble about going off on a guy on the ice who was clearly injured by your cross ice charge...then taunting him as he laid on the ice. Followed by simultaneously checking a guys head into the boards and punching him in th face? In a little over two minutes of ice time Gillies has impacted two NHL players, one a promising prospect and the other a leader and top tier player on the Wild. "Mehhhh, Gillies was just retaliating to Clusterf***,,,mehhhhhh", Clusterbuck's hit is done every game, at least a dozen times to Homstrom and players like Miller and Eaves and Filppula who are easily knocked down to the ice. If you're skating backwards, you aren't going to be propelled forward at any dangerous rate. This wasn't directed at any individual, just tired of seeing Gillies defended. The game needs to get rid of Gillies so brain injuries don't take the lives of any more of our players. Obviously if you play on the edge and you cross the line, once, maybe twice, it's tolerable...but man... in two minutes you cheap shot two players and alter their careers.

He's only allowed to retire when he has 7 Stanley Cups and 9 Norris Trophies...because I say so.

Sickening. Figured this game would have something in it that would cause some sort of discussion today. Didn't expect it to be this and from a player I actually really liked before this. Stupid, pointless hit at a time in the game where they are getting bent over and smacked. Real nice Z and he will get some games for this, no question. This is a chance for Campbell to do something about a hit from a star instead of one of the goons in the league. Now, we wait.

This angle was already shown in the Bruins NESN feed and I think at least once in the Habs RDS feed too. I'm confused why I had to sign in to Youtube to view the RDS feed.. it's just a hockey hit with a guy lying on the ice. No blood, no guts, no gore, no killing, no boobs.. I don't get it. Not much justification for the hit. It's a penalty, possibly a major for interference.. dunno what it was called on the ice I just know it was a major. Chara was late but also he was following through on a hit, certainly a hit he wanted to take thanks to a game I did see where Pacioretty shoves Chara from behind for no reason whatsoever right after scoring a winning goal not long ago during this season. That's just unfortunately the intensity of a game. Somebody got injured, it was a penalty, but we don't have to hang every person that commits a stupid penalty. The major is enough. I don't think he should be suspended at all, even though the NHL will likely, out of political correctness, hit him for a game to a few. This should also spark debate in the NHL of where panes of glass and stanchions are placed because honestly this is a dumb place for one.
