Calle Jarnkrok - Does he have a chance to make next season's team?
Z Winged Dangler and one other gave a reaction for a post in a topic
Calle Jarnkrok. Currently ranked as our 5th best prospect by Hockey's Future (behind Smith, Nyquist, Tatar and Jurco). Born in '91, so 21, and old enough to be considered at this point. He's spent the last two complete seasons in the Swedish Elite League, which is at least somewhat comprable to AHL-level hockey. He's said to be a great play-making center, with outstanding speed (aka defensive ability). And, most impressively, IMO, he was chosen for the Swedish WC team over Gustav Nyquist...who we all know deserves to be on the team next season. What are the chances this guy comes over and becomes our third line center next season (moving Helm to a more appropriate fourth line role)? And while we're at it, what about Tomas Tatar, who will be playing with Marian Hossa and many other high profile NHL-ers on Slovakia's WC team? I smell a (potential) great third scoring line in Nyquist-Jarnkrok-Tatar as early as next season. -

So I had an idea for the WC jerseys
Z Winged Dangler and one other reacted to lookalive07 for a post in a topic
Since LGW is likely to be pretty slow until the end of June, I figured I'd throw together a little idea I had for what I thought our WC jerseys could look like. A couple pieces of history here and there (inverted logo, Detroit Cougars "D" on the shoulder), as well as a little deeper red trim for a vintage-ish look. Anyway, let me know what you think. I have the PSD file, so I can edit it as much as I want, so suggestions are welcome and I'd be willing to attempt any other mock-ups anyone might like to see (within my abilities). -

Informative article on Nashville's finances
DatsyukianDangles122 and one other reacted to Jersey Wing for a post in a topic
I'm sorry, teams taking money from the revenue sharing fund should be forced to say how much they receive. Other teams fans should know they are subsidizing other franchises and for how much. Reading the article is sure seems like the Preds get a LOT of money from everyone (NHL money, state money, local money) yet refuse to disclose how much they get. I mean why should the Wings have to help subsidize Nashville over a salary like Suter's when we'd ultimately like to sign him here? In essence the Wings are being forced to act against their best interests. *The Predators acknowledged that they benefit from revenue sharing but would not disclose how much. *The Predators would not disclose what percentage of the remaining $45 million was from operating losses. *Cogen would not disclose the number of sponsors or how much revenue they generate. But yet they take and take and take and a lot of people in and around Nashville don't see this as sustainable for much longer and next time they want money they WILL make them open their books it sure sounds like. Bad for the NHL. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120429/NEWS01/304290057/Profit-eludes-Nashville-Predators?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE -

Johan Franzen wants to 'have more fun'
kipwinger reacted to Doc Holliday for a post in a topic
Nobody is saying it is a big deal. In fact, I agreed on that very same post we have a lack of goalscoring on this roster. Yet hasn't scored more than 20 goals since 2006. The point is Datsyuk doesn't make his linemates score at will. What is your point? That Cleary would score 30 goals with Datsyuk? I'm not saying his effort is the problem, but the fact is Franzen is the only bonafide goal scorer we have. Zetterberg has declined due to back issues, Hudler may be moved, Filppula and Datsyuk are playmakers, and Cleary is too injury prone to really be a consistent offensive provider. If you don't rely soley on Franzen to drive the net and put the puck in, his lack of effort isn't as big of a hot button issue. And all in all this entire conversation started from a quote that was purposefully misinterpreted by the OP to incite a hate-fest. And this happens to a lot of Wings players. Cleary, Osgood, Hudler, Lang, etc. -
1 pointdidn't they lose last year to Vancouver in 4 games as well after beating us? We can call it "detroit syndrome"
-
1 pointI think it points more to a lack of goalscorers on our team that we think 29 goals is a big deal. Bertuzzi is 37 and a shell of his former self, who generally tries as hard as his old bones will let him, and plays and acts like he actually gives a damn. You reckon? A broken down Cleary (equivalent to a no-effort Franzen) with no real playmaking talent alongside him got what, 11 goals? You may have a point, but whether he is playing in the role of top-line sniper with the elite playmaker feeding him the puck, or 3rd line big-body with the hands to score some goals, he still has to put the effort in!!!!!! His production isn't the problem. His role isn't the problem. His complete lack of effort, lack of accountablity and lack of shame is.

Calle Jarnkrok - Does he have a chance to make next season's team?
DatsyukianDekes reacted to WhiteLightning91 for a post in a topic
Not to derail the thread, but the over-ripen strategy is something that I believe we will begin to see less of as the seasons go on. The main reason we had the luxury of leaving prospects in the minors for so long was because we could go out and have our pick of the litter free agent wise. Although we have a lot of money this summer, once the new CBA goes into effect (knock on wood), I do not see how we can continue to prolong the strategy of waiting until 24/25 years of age for our prospects to finally have more than a cup of coffee in the show. Anyone else thinking this could be correct? Opinions to the contrary welcomed, as always. Just sort of thinking aloud. -

Is Rinne Getting Exposed?
LidsFan reacted to b.shanafan14 for a post in a topic
Rinne was coughing up rebounds left, right, and center in the first round, and same in the second. The difference is the 'Yotes forwards are willing/able to get bodies to the low slot to bang a few home, where as the Wings forwards would/could not. Getting some garbage loosens things up and gets the goaltender cheating, usually making it easier to score on the first shot. Wings had WAY too many perimeter shots definitely, but when I look back at all the juicy garbage Rinne was knocking down that the Preds were able to clear without a problem, its clear that the issue was us, not them. There weren't any pretty goals scored, but the Wings didn't get enough of the ugly ones. The Dogs are. -

Hearing people ripping the fanbases of Western teams makes me chuckle. It just sounds like people who live in the East who don't stay up late enough to watch Western teams play and therefore know little to nothing about them. Arizona has a team in every major sports league. The Diamondbacks won a World Series, the Suns are always competitive, and the Cardinals just barely lost the Super Bowl what, two years ago? Yes, Phoenix is in the desert, but it ain't like there's only 20 people living there with tumbleweeds as pets. Educate yourselves folks. esteef -

Parise would be a good addition, but that lineup the OP posted would be lucky to get out of the second round. Sadly, I think that's the best lineup we can hope for next season. -

Well deserved, but also an easy target to throw the book at and say, "See! We've got this thing under control!" Already a multiple-time offender, bottom line scrub, he had no chance (not that he especially deserves one). -

23 game home win streak
Jedi reacted to Heroes of Hockeytown for a post in a topic
Losing in the first round sucked, but it wouldn't have been a much more memorable run if they'd lost in the second or third round either, which is more likely to happen than winning the Cup even when you've got a really good team. Meanwhile, the winning streak is probably something that will stand for quite a while, and I had a lot of fun watching. I know "the Cup is the only thing that matters etc," but it's not even remotely feasible to win it every year or anywhere close to that. Enjoy what you can while you can folks.
