I understand where you're coming from but I disagree. I love seeing the other team squirm and lose their focus and try to get retribution when they should be focusing on the game itself. Vladdy said it best: "I don't need to score the goal. I need someone to start thinking about me and forgetting about scoring goals." On the other hand, when Zetterberg gets his face slammed into the boards (or any other illegal and dangerous attack), then I expect the team to strike down with great fury. The acquisition of Tootoo should help in that regard.

In a perfect world, Kronwall would crush someone with a clean hit, then when some idiot dropped the gloves and went after him, Kronner would start throwing haymakers and drop that guy too. But he's just not that player. Would I love him to beat the crap out of someone who expects him to fight for a clean hit? Yes. Should he HAVE to fight for a clean hit? No.

As long as it is a clean hit, hell no. One of the first things I was told when playing hockey was "KEEP YOUR HEAD UP". If you got your head down and you get blown up it is on you. No one should have to answer for you not paying attention.

    Bouwmeester opinions? Potential trades? *merged*

You're suggesting that we trade our next captain, who happens to be a very good scorer, an excellent two-way forward, and the most prolific playoff producer since the lockout, in exchange for a defenseman who can't play defense. No offense, but are all of these trade ideas jokes?

FIghting has been a part of North American hockey for a long time. I don't want that tradition to change. I shouldn't have to watch the UFC to see a sport I've been watching since I was a kid.

His percentage may be off, but yours is even farther off. I think Kronwall has left his feet too much in the past, though he was much better this last season. I'm guessing he took notice that the league had been cracking down. But even when he was leaving his feet, it wasn't anywhere near half the time. He was credited with 113 hits in 2011. There's no way he left his feet 56 times. Raffi Headhunter Torres doesn't even reach those kind of numbers. Kronner would've been called for charging several times and likely been suspended.

and obviously you are not a wings fan which we all know. So your point on the matter is a bit skewed and to say that 50% of his hits are illegal?? really? maybe you should re-watch some of his hits there chief and take off whatever color glasses you have on.if his hits were 50% dirty and should of been penalized...why have they not been,...and why has he not been suspended? hmmmmmm

    Wendel was a great player

Our powerplay is no longer an enforcer. It flat out sucks. And nobody is rattled by our team like they were say in 2002. In the meantime, go watch the NBA.

I hate Wendel Clark, he was a useless goon that only has recognition around the league because he was the best player on terrible teams. He is everything hockey shouldn't be, he was not smart, he was not skilled and most of all he was ugly and I didn't like his hair.

    Nyquist vs. Brunner

He'll definitely have to stop cutting into the middle of the ice like he seems to do, play a little more north-south hockey, but I don't really think he'll have too much trouble adapting. With his speed, skating ability, and wrister he'll have all the chances he wants, even without his nifty toe drags.

...only if he executes an illegal hit. If its legal, the hitee should have to answer to his mommy for not paying attention out there!
  14. 1 point
If i was an opposing coach, i would make him answer for it. Especially when he leaves his feet.

I don't think he should have to fight for clean hits, but having said that, I'm really surprised that more teams don't make him...or someone else on the team. The fact that he does it and gets away with it so much is a real surprise. Note: On a positive note, seems like we'll never have to ask this question about Smith.

If you are that worried about your star players, send them up the opposite wing. No reason to take it out on Kronner for being an excellent body checking defenceman.

This. Stop admiring your sick puck handling skills and watch where the eff you're going. I don't ever like seeing someone seriously hurt, but I love watching players get leveled with a good clean hit. If they didn't learn to keep their heads up in pee wee, they'll certainly remember to do so after being on the receiving end of a good Kronwalling.

Hockey News sees us finishing 7th

Wings aren't a serious cup contender? There are no serious contenders in the league anymore. You make the playoffs, you have a 1/16 chance of winning the cup. These playoffs proved that when the Coyotes of all teams advanced to the WCF with Detroit, Vancouver and Chicago losing in first round.

Well it's a damn good thing the game is played on the ice and not decided by sport writers. The Red Wings have a new look, players will step up, everything's going to be just fine. I personally think it will be better than fine and we will surprise a lot of sport writers and fans this year. I can't wait until puck drop to see what we really have. Sincerely, Optimism

especially when it was the NHL, not the NHLPA that waited until a couple weeks ago to finally table the initial proposal, which was basically insulting to the NHLPA. CHL is awesome. Go to Brandon from time to time to watch the Wheat Kings.

    Remember Robin Big Snake?

Are there hockey players named Big Badger and Big Mushroom also? Har har har... (maybe 20% of the forumgoing population will recognize this obscure reference).
