I'd buy a Cleary jersey if he boarded somebody and went "WOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!!!"

I think using a buyout on Carlo is a waste. IMHO, he was one of our top 4 defensemen in the playoffs, and is paid less than at least one guy who he outplayed (Quincy). I think he could and would crack our lineup even with DeKeyser back. Now, we are relying on Smith to step it up and Quincy to play to his potential every night vs. having a guy that came in and played rock solid in our back pocket. And we're doing this why? To keep Samuelsson?? WTF??? I don't have too much of a problem with the Cleary deal, though I wish it was more like 2 years at 2M or 2.5M. I know a lot of people want a star player in his place, but I'd argue that he brings some of the things to the table that we need: he'll go to the net, he plays tougher than his size and he gives 100% every time out on the ice. He's like Rudy - I wish I could put his heart into Franzen's body. I don't have too much of a problem with keeping Bert too. If he's hurt, we can IR him and maybe get someone else (IR doesn't count against cap?). While if he's truly healthy, he can bring some size, grit, toughness and scoring.

Horrible move by Holland. You'll pay Sammy 3 million a year, but you won't pay Vincent 4.5? The guy would of been our 3rd best forward. You wouldn't pay 4.5 million for a top 3 forward? Come on. The Wings can't score. They haven't been scoring for YEARS. How do you fix such a problem? PAY A FEW EXTRA BUCKS AND SIGN SOME DECENT TOP 6 FORWARDS. Would you rather have Vincent at 4.5 a season, or Cleary at 3. Seriously. I will use my magical crystal ball and tell you what Holland will do in the next week: Cleary for 3 million a season for 3-4 years. Sign Brunner for 2-3 million for 3-4 years. Buy-out Carlo. "We like our team." - Holland DONE. We will have an IDENTICAL team to last year, except Flipulla will be gone. The Wings need 1-2 top 6 forwards. The Wings have too many players signed, and Kenny seems not to care. Get rid of a few, and get BETTER ONES. WE HAVE THE SPACE. GETTER DONE. I will bet ANYONE on here $20 that Philly will win the cup before the Wings do. Making moves, even if a few are bad, is better than doing nothing. And Kenny has basically made ZERO moves for 5 years.

Pretty much. Holland is obsessed with old geysers who aren't that good anymore. Did Bertuzzi or Samuelsson even play last season? Why are they being given another chance to get injured? I remember Cleary playing, because we all made countless jokes about him throughout the year, but he actually played well in the playoffs. But still, its time to be fully committed to a youth movement. We'd have enough veterans with Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Kronwall to have a balanced lineup with experience and youth. He moves like he's 44. Ric Flair is in better shape than him.

I may be one of the biggest Cleary fans out there, but if he gets re-signed for 3yrs at 3mil I'll be pretty pissed. A 2yr deal for 2.5 or less would've been all I'd like to see. I hope Helene is a bit off base. The Brunner # is good.

Wings buy out Colaiacovo, will keep Bertuzzi

Good I'm glad were keeping Bert. Now what's up with Sammy

I don't by any means think Jurco or Teemu are NHL ready...probably not even close. But they'd be a better option than a 3 mill Cleary. He skates like the Timbits at intermission, leaning on his stick for balance and falls over when grazed. I'm kind of done watching him play for Detroit.

Holland probably tried to low ball him. Holland had to use a buy out on Carlo and didn't get nothing for Flip. I am starting to really question the skipper because if the fish isn't in the barrel then he sure as s*** can't shoot them elsewhere.

3 years at $3mil per? Don't ******* do it, Kenny.

Vinny at 4.5 was too steep but Cleary at $3 is OK.... got it Kenny

have you tried McDonald's new hampus meal? Comes with a toy and healthy fry substitutes like apples or melen!!

Then why re-sign Cleary? There goes Tatar's spot, and $3 mil? That has to be a typo. That's absurd for a guy on the decline who has been injured for 3 years. I'm ok with not getting Lecavalier, Horton, Clarkson, even Weiss or Ryder, but I do not want Cleary taking up a kids roster spot that provides more offence, spark and can grind out an 82 game schedule. Sometimes it's just time to move on.

So by your logic, he purposely signs players like Samuelsson to a 3M per year deal WITH no trade clause......Tootoo for 2M a year (wouldn't have gotten more then 1M with any other team) who was scratched a lot of the season and all of the playoffs......because he knew it wouldn't make a difference? Guess you can't really argue with that. God knows they sure as hell didn't make a difference and I guess that.....was.....Holland's.....plan?

You do know that you can only have six bottom six forwards right? You need two lines that can put the puck in the net, EVERY NIGHT. We have 3 legitimate top 6 forwards right now. Having 15 forwards signed is pretty useless when only 3 or 4 can score a goal on a regular basis.

So were in the process of giving a guy that skates like he has cement in his skates, gets knocked over by a breeze, and in general is on the WAY decline of his career 3 yrs and 3 mil per? But for some reason can't give vinny 4.5 for 5 years and a role that we actually NEED!! Man good thing Holland has a hard on for his vets or the wings could actually win a few more cups.

2.5 is a great deal for us in regard to Brunner, I don't care if he wants 6 years. I thought he'd come in closer to 3, maybe even 3.5 to keep him... But 3 per for Cleary?! WTF?!

@DaveLozo: Lecavalier: "I'm tired of playing on an offense-first team with a weak blue line and shaky goaltending. So I am signing with the Flyers."

Smart move on passing. Say it with me. NOT. WORTH. SIX. MILLION.

An acquaintance of mine created a Dan Cleary Drinking Game, one of the rules state that you must finish your drink whenever Dan Cleary scores a goal. Through the grapevine Dan Cleary somehow heard about this game and sent all of them glasses and autographed photos that said, "Drink up".

If Cleary gets 3 mill I think I will officially rage. The guy should be in the 1.5-2mill TOPS. Any more than that and Kenny is throwing money down the toilet. Although I must re-state we should NOT be re-signing him to ANY contract

I'm glad Big Bert is coming back. When healthy he brings so much to the table. And plays really well with Pavel (who doesn't though?haha). And he's one of our best shootout guys! If worse come to worse and he re-injures his back, we obviously have a lot of options to take his place. Love me some Bertuzzi!

oh god man , cant believe couldnt find a team to take him for like a 7th round pick hes just got one year left on his deal, waste of a buyout ... how is it everyone knew the signings of coliacovo and samuelsson were a mistake except for holland

Holland didn't get him? Shocker. esteef
