    Pronger is done

I almost feel bad for him, until I realize that if it was someone else this happened to that he was the cause of, he wouldn't care, he would probably laugh and say good.

    Look what I found.....

I was cleaning my garage last weekend and decided to go though a box of some of my old stuff my dad dropped of about a month ago. This is had been in storage in his attic since I moved out in 1999. It was a collection of my Yzerman cards I thought I had lost. I do have a rookie but that is on a plaque hanging in my basement. And I also found this guy, back when I collected cards I had no clue he would turn out to be the perfect human. My Wife asked if they were worth anything, I said not nearly close enough to even consider. I thought I would share.

    Sabres' Kaleta suspended 10 games.

"It’s just a read. If you don’t change the way you visually see the game, then change is impossible." - Matt Cooke Translation: Once you begin seeing opposing players as human beings, and not like animals to be slaughtered, it's much easier to play hockey without intentionally trying to ruin their lives.

    3 in a row.... I'll take it!

Overall, I'm happy with where we're at. I do miss the old ways of the old days, when we could snooze for an entire game and still win by a four-goal margin, relying on our obscene collective skill level alone to carry us. But those days are long gone, and you know what? In a way, it's a good thing. Because it means every man has to really bring it every game or we're in trouble. I'm not necessarily saying our, say, blue line is better without Lidstrom, Stuart, and Rafalski (it's not), but you get the point. There can't be any coasting (unless you're Franzen) (OH YES I DID), and I like that. It brings out the best in the guys. It keeps them honest. Same idea with Helm and Nyquist being out. We're having to find a way to get things done without them, and so when they do finally return, it should - like Holland says - be like adding two big acquisitions to an already formidable lineup. I think the biggest and/or most plesant surprise - at least for me - has been Daniel Alfredsson. We're all expecting him to be a secondary or tertiary contributor, but so far he's been one of our most valuable players. (Alright, maybe not from the beginning of the season - but certainly over the past several games.) It's funnny because, the way Holland framed it, Alfie is supposed to be more of a goal-scorer and Weiss is supposed to be more of a playmaker. But it's sort of been the other way around, no?

    Lineup Crunch: Who's going?

Cleary plays fine and you better get use to him cause he is getting a raise. and Tatar and Cleary are completely different players

    Lineup Crunch: Who's going?

To be fair, Cleary is much better defensively, and he does still provide a good degree of "grit and such." I am, of course, a big Tatar fan, and I hate that he's not playing - but he is, at present, a smallish, one-dimensional scorer. Not necessarily saying I'd take Cleary over him, mind you. Just sayin'.

One I made last year about Babs Cleary Obsession and another I made when they signed Alfredsson

What's funny is Cooke talks about it as if he had to adjust some subtle aspects of his technique. As if his history was an inadvertent and unfortunate part of his playing style. When really it comes down to 1) don't elbow guys in the head. 2) don't hit guys square in the numbers and ram them facefirst into the boards, 3) don't stick out your knee to hit another guys leg as you check them. Voila! With those complex adjustments to Matt Cooke's game, 99% of his suspensions would be gone.

    Lineup Crunch: Who's going?

Sure, that's a definite possibility. And perhaps Buffalo is a long shot in that regard. But Sammy has a history with Florida, had a moderate degree of success with them, and every young team needs veterans around the locker room. An example would be Vinny Prospal with Columbus. He was a guy at the tail end of his career who was a successful contributor on a young team and really helped in the leadership department. Again, I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it's not out of the ballpark either.

    Lineup Crunch: Who's going?

One thing that "might" help us in trading someone is that the new CBA allows for teams to pay a percentage of the contract (just like in MLB). I'd eat $2M of Sammy's contract if it meant we could trade him. Do you think a team would pay the other $1M?

    Lineup Crunch: Who's going?

I think Tootoo would do just fine in the playoffs if given the chance. He has played lots of playoff games for Nashville. Saying he is not a playoff player because Babcock scratched him most games last year is like saying Tatar is not an NHL calibre player.

    Pronger is done

Gotta think that the league will start pushing to either hold the Flyers responsible for Pronger's cap hit, or punish them for deliberate circumvention of the cap. If that were to happen, then I guarantee Holmgren will follow in Laviolette's footsteps... ...out the door...

    Pronger is done

I don't feel the least bit sorry for Pronger. This is poetic justice for a dirty scumbag of a player who spent his whole career viciously and intentionally trying to injure people. At least Cooke is trying to pull a Mikita. Pronger was dirty to the very end.

    Pronger is done

Yawningly anti-climatic, and I can't say I'm heartbroken. I've had a good hate on for Pronger pretty much his entire career. Glad he's not really hurt or anything, but I'm just as glad he's not playing anymore. Can't say I'm really upset for Philly, either. Does that make me a bad person?
