It should be treated like a regular fight, if both parties are willing participants and it is a good clean fight, 5 minute major, and it's over. If it is like what emery or others have done, it should be an automatic suspension, minumum 5 games. Holtby did nothing to deserve what he got, and emery is a thug who has no real hockey skills

    Injury to Weiss

It may end up being a blessing in disguise. This will give him some time off the ice and away from the game to clear his head and hopefully start fresh upon his return. Every game he played Weiss looked more comfortable out there in the Wings' system. With any luck, this injury is minor, and he comes back and picks up where he left off.

Wait, I think I've figured it out. He was feeling nauseous and missed a period. He's pregnant! (And Khan needs to learn to spell nauseous).

    Brendan Shanahan appreciation thread

wow... I can't believe theres not a single thread dedicated to the 3-time champ... this man was the heart and soul of this franchise for 8 years.. come on. who knows if we'd ever beat the Avs if Shanny never arrived. we might all hate him today but that doesn't change history.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNx4725CS9w

I love fights, especially goalie fights. One-sided beat-downs aren't good fights. Have a penalty for that, not specifically goalie fights. Goalies are people too.

Yeah, but you can say that about anything. I'm still shocked that Don Cherry has any credibility left with anyone.

I havee no problem with women, but trying to take womens hockey seriously is like watching the office, Michael thinks he is great, and the best boss ever, but he is the only one who thinks that. He even bought himself a worlds greatest boss mug. btw you missed cause you throw like a girl *ducks*

I'm with you... the whole team changed when Shanny arrived. He gave us everything we needed in a true blue Power forward. What an awesome player he was!

Ok, I'm going to come in here for a short rant because I'm feeling surly this fine Monday morning. Disclaimer: this pertains to the topic at hand, but is directed at the media covering this kerfluffle and not so much about any of the opinions expressed in this thread. I want Steve Yzerman to participate in the AG as much as anyone. He is My Captain, the man I grew up watching lead this team longer than all others. I paid good money for my AG tix, and would love nothing more than to get the opportunity to piss my pants over seeing Stevie on a line with Feds again (because I like to party, natch). That being said, I am sick and fricking *tired* of the BS ENTITLEMENT being expressed in so many of the articles covering the issue. "Stevie owes it to THE FANS!!!111!!1!1" NO. No he doesn't. He gave up his heart, soul, body, you name it to this team when he was captain. He owed it to the fans for 23 years, a promise he made good on time and time again. He owes us NOTHING more than he has already given. People saying they're "losing respect" for Yzerman's legacy because he's being noncommittal about attending the AG? Good grief! Short of flying in by helicopter and taking a dump on JLA, there's not much Stevie could do that would make me lose respect for his legacy. That includes not giving a rabbit fart about the AG. Whatever. TL,DR and all that. Happy Vets day to all who've served and the families that support them.

The jokes really make themselves in this thread, don't they?

I love fighting but thugs don't have a place on hockey, no doubt whatsoever that Emery has to pay for that soon. I'd say treat it as an assault with 10 games plus. Goaliefights are nice if both are willing otherwise screw it. Holtby should have pulled a Kessel and absolutely smashed this idiot with his stick. Can't wait till the TorontoMapleLeafs and Bruins are coming to Philly, MacLaren running through the net and smashing him into the boards would be fun to watch.

In what world is your credibility not based on what you do, say and think? That's entirely what you base credibility on.

... I thought the east was the "tough" conference and we wouldn't survive the big bad east, and we would be so much better in the west. People just like what if's

    An honest question about Nyquist

I think it will be before the playoffs. That may sound like optimism, but it is actually pessimism in disguise - the Wings have been insanely injury prone the past few years, and I while I hope that trend is over, it seems like the injuries are already piling on. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Nyquist get called up eventually when they hit some injuries and run out of waiver exempt guys to call up. The mythical and theoretical line of Nyquist-Andersson-Tatar just makes too much sense to not try at some point this season - especially when secondary scoring is the biggest problem.

    Speculation regarding Franzen's ailment

We can't use the compliance buy-out until summer. LTIR for now; buyout if it seems like the best option when we actually have the option. If there's a chance that he'll be able to return, give him that chance. We didn't give up on Hank despite back and wrist problems that many said would cut his future career short, nor did we give up on Helm with all his back issues. No reason to give up on Franzen if there's a chance that he can be helped. If it's better for him and the team to part ways, the compliance buy-out is the way to go. Until then, LTIR as long as he needs it.

    Varlamov Arrested

Bottom line for me--we don't know what happened. Varlamov is innocent until proven guilty, and FOR GOD DAMN SURE so is his significant other.
