Ilitch aids civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, others By Christopher Botta, Staff Writer Published February 24, 2014, In his chambers in Detroit, Judge Damon Keith holds a copy of a check in his hand and has a story to tell. It’s about the time Mike Ilitch came to the aid of Rosa Parks, whose legendary defiance of segregation in 1955 led to the black civil rights movement. “It’s for $2,000, dated November the first, 1994. It’s from Little Caesars Enterprises to Riverfront Apartments, and I know it was just one of many,” said Keith, 91, who has been a U.S. Court of Appeals judge in Detroit for the last 46 years. “It’s important that people know what Mr. Mike Ilitch did for Ms. Rosa Parks because it’s symbolic of what he has always done for the people of our city.” http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2014/02/24/Champions/Ilitch-Rosa-Parks.aspx

Last 2 were a tip in and a garbage rebound both off of Almquist slapshots.

That's good to hear the guy has a nose for the front of the net. Wings could use some of that, too many finesse guys.

It's been a long time since I took Intro to Logic in college. But I'm pretty sure that it's entirely possible that Weiss could both suck this season AND still be a good signing...regardless of his injury proneness or lack thereof. Does that seem reasonable or have we devolved to the point in which "either/or" logic is the law of the land?

Jarnkrok has been increasing production lately 13 points in last 13 games. I think he will be fine. When you see him on the ice he looks dangerous often (especially on PP) and always looks to play it safe to prevent odd man rushes (which is why his point production is lower). After watching the griffins over the olympic break I am less worried about him panning out. Also he would benefit from Mantha on his wing.

That depends on if you consider the year he's having a breakout year and sign of things to come, or whether it's just a freak occurrence. I don't know the answer to that, but it's worth noting that he's generally trended upward (with the exception of an injury year and the lockout year) after being brought into the league too early and having to learn on the fly in the NHL. It's not unreasonable to think that he's a star in the making and this is his coming out party. Then again, it's not unreasonable to think he's just having a freak year either.

As far as size Jarnkrok is taller than Datsyuk and Zetterberg and weighs 10 less pounds...I think he can get that in the next couples years if not by next season. I could see them putting Jurco at Center in the future too

Callahan picks up garbage most of the time. he does have a good shot and scores that way as well. But he crashes the net and drives in goals.

March 5th, 2014: The Detroit Red Wings sign D Nicklas Lidstrom. March 6th's ceremony is not really a retirement, but an un-retirement. It's been planned all along.

And these are the reason Illitch will never be forgotten. I don't even live in MI, but I appreciate the things he has done for the city.

I think playing injured half the year while trying to learn a new system gives him a little benefit of the doubt credit.. I don't think the acquisition is judgeable until most of the way through next season. hope he turns it around for sure.

    Anthony Mantha

And to add to that this year Drouin is averaging 2.15 points per game, while Mantha is averaging 2.14. Doesn't mean it'll translate, but it's definitely worth getting excited over. Is anyone on here from the area and has seen him play recently or can give a first hand account of how his game is night in and night out?

It's just most of us are not so trigger happy and are willing to see what he can do when he's actually healthy considering how consistently good he's been his whole career.

Bone crushing defensemen are needed more than anything else Pulkkinen too

If this team is to do anything, he needs to get it going. We are going to need his offense and defensive game if we expect to make the playoffs.

We really should have gotten Bouwmeester. Flames probably wanted Cleary though

He might get a little more credibility if he could spell "comradery". In any case, I'm not going to form an opinion either way based on these posts. I mean, I know everything on the internet is true of course, but......a guy who works in catering has inside info on trades and personnel decisions? Datsyuk is shy, Huds is a partier, Management likes character guys over skill (well, besides Dan Cleary of course). Just seems like fairly basic information.

Just cause he'd rather pack lips and crush handles of bacardi then text supermodels back, doesn't mean he has a bad attitude.

That's also why I want Marchenko up next year. He's big, can skate, and plays a defensively responsible game. Get the kids up when they're ready so they're not trying to break in 3 rookies at once.

    2014 draft thoughts.

3rd round: Keegan Iverson 6-1/210 RH RW/C Loves to hit and never stops moving. has a good heavy shot as well. At this point likes to skate through the D and force home the puck. Ryan MacInnis 6-4/190 LH LW/C Would you be surprised to know Al's son can shot the puck? He has all the skills to be a superstar, hasn't found the consistency yet. But he is only 18......... Aaron Haydon 6-3/200 RH D A true modile tough guy. No he isn't a scorer. But he loves to hit, fight, check, and has the speed and skating ability to get there and bring the pain. Christian Dvorak 6-1/170 LH LW Great skater and a great shot. needs to add muscle and strength. Currently he has to hang onto something in a stiff breeze and gets pushed off of the puck. But when he has time to shoot, he is deadly......
