As excited as I am about Mantha - if we're being honest, his presence on the Wings this season affects our cup chances exactly 0%. He isn't going to put us over the top, so I really don't mind giving him one transitional year in the AHL, a league that I believe he can he can score a lot a points in, while refining the other parts of his game. We all want to see him play, but the last thing I want is for him to get small minutes on the bottom two lines with the Wings with non-offensive linemates when he could be getting big minutes in GR with other offensive and two-way guys.

I think Howard would be exactly what any expansion team is looking for. He is a very reliable veteran goalie.

Protect Mrazek over Howard all day... I believe that a team can only lose ONE player, so if someone picked up Franzen, then no one else can be picked (of those left unprotected.)

Or cripple the guy's confidence if he comes up and gets destroyed, for that matter. I'm more than comfortable with letting him ripen up in the AHL.

Well I think it's clear he's going to be #1 on speed dial when injuries begin. I don't think he's an exception at all though. Ppl clamored for the coming of Tatar for years. Now look at him. Mature, Hungry, chip-on his shoulder, wants to be Detroit's next big thing. I absolutely love Nyquist, but no one on this team has a fire underneath them like Tatar does. You feel it every time he touches the puck. And he's in the NHL now, but he still has plenty of growing to do. Jurco playing 30 games this season would perfect IMO. I want him to dominate, I mean truly own, the AHL before becoming a full time wing. That way we can say we did our due diligence inh achieving his full potential.

The "spicy" comment seems to have been missed by most. Baron Harkkonen is displeased. I'm a sci-fi geek in general, not a fanboy of one particular franchise. (Though I did consider writing a musical combining the Marcellus Shale gas drilling industry that has cropped up in my area with Battlestar Galactica for "Frack! The Musical")

I'd say they'd protect Mrazek. Can't really see an expansion team drafting Howard.

Since the Wings forwards have shown that they can't score a shootout goal, I might as well go with Jimmy--who knows a thing or two about goals being scored.

Tourists go to Vegas to see Celine Dion, Carrot Top, Penn and Teller, etc. along with gambling. They don't go to see a hockey game. Even if they do come from Detroit, or Toronto, or wherever to see their team play Vegas, they're not going to be buying $150 Las Vegas Regrets jerseys, and $20 hats, or the other merchandise.

If the NHLPA wanted a work stoppage, they could strike. Lockout is, by definition, owners locking the players out. Disclaimer: I do not wish to start any discussion of whose fault it was/is/will be. Just a word usage note.
