I wouldn't laugh too hard, we're one injury away from our number 1 center being Glendening.

With all the feel good stories that happen (Tootoo's Stick giveaway).I would like to start a thread of feel good NHL stories... Please leave out negativity. If you have an objection, no judgements just move along. Please add your positive thoughts and stories. I would like to start with the letter to Carey Price about the Selfie. Story: Link

Most in the NHL. But who would have guessed the list would be Tater (26), Datsyuk (23), Nyquist(22), Cole (21), Abdlekader (20) If you asked me at the start of the season I would have said: Datsyuk Zetterberg Franzen Tatar Nyquist

I don't see how not getting Suter was a failure considering he wanted to play kind of close to home and with Parise. There's no way the Wings were going to give them those matching contracts, because it was stupid and a desperation move.Weiss isn't getting a chance to show what he can do. I don't know if it's personal with Babcock, or he's not picking up the system, or if he's not getting along with the rest of the team, or what. Filppula isn't worth his contract either though.

Smith will be the issue here. Tater and Gus Gus need to believe in themselves and get back to scoring. LGRW!!

That's a pretty tenuous characterization for a guy who has 54 goals, and 55 assists in his short NHL career. Joe Thornton is "pass first". Valterri Filppula is "pass first". I think it would be misleading to describe Nyquist's game in a similar fashion. So far in his short career he's been a significantly better finisher than most NHLers.

I'd like to see Blashill behind the bench. Or Dave Tippett, if Phoenix goes in a different direction. I like Blashill because he's already familiar with the talent, they've bought into his scheme, he's got report with the guys, and he's won with them. I like Tippett because he's got about 20 fewer career wins than Babs, with about one twentieth the amount of talent. Tippett gets more out of less than anyone in the league and I"d love to see what he could do with a payroll, some stability, and some quality hockey players. When it comes to who is better, the results speak for themselves. Quenneville, Hitch, and Sutter have credentials that surpass Babs. Laviollete and Julien are in the same ballpark. Vignault, Trotz, Tippet, and Mclellan are nipping at his heals. Edit: I would add that this is a rough ranking of guys based on a few variables (Cups, finals appearances, career wins). Ideally you'd rank these guys on a few other factors as well. Notably, long playoff runs, President's trophy wins, division wins, injuries, quality of team, etc. As all make a major difference in either A) determining who is best, or B) identifying legit reasons why they've struggled. I just don't have the time to do it though, and I suspect you'd probably end up with the same guys (in a slightly different order) anyway.

After basically screwing over the team in the first place I don't think he has respect for Lamariello at all.
  14. 1 point
Lamariello let him go and relinquished his NHL rights to allow him to go to the KHL. He's no longer tied to the team. If he comes back for another team, that would make that a bad GM decision. It was classy at the time, though, so maybe Kovalchuck would feel some sort of debt to him or just a general respect.

Even if we have a chance, I'm not really interested in spending the $7 million or whatever it would take to sign him to a long-term deal. Besides, if Babcock is still coach he might roll something like this... Kovalchuk-Glendening-Miller/Andersson

    Ilya Kovalchuk announces retirement

Not at all surprising. He made a rash decision(I'm assuming) and now is regretting it. Also not to start any kind of political discussion, but the current political climate in Russia has to be weighing on his decision to come back to the NHL.

    Connor McDavid

As long as McDavid and Eichel don't go to Edmonton or Toronto, I'll be happy. Neither of those organizations know how to develop young players and I actually want to see these guys play well and become stars instead of being handicapped by poorly run management.

It's not the losing streak that's making his decision hard, its the opportunity to yell at College kids that is enticing him to leave NHL coaching.

congrats on being the only one to actually answer the question.

Simple fact is this team is good but the chemistry is off and we are still lacking defense. A patch and plug on a tire with 2/32 left of tread will only hold up so well doing 80 mph down the freeway with only 50 cents of change in your pocket and the toll ahead is $1.00 while your friends are scrambling to find the remaining change Will you find the right change in time, will you stop for the toll and not be able to proceed due to lacking, or do ya take the change of not paying the toll and be fined later on? Same time will the tire hold up or will it blow

Filpulla plays a majority of time with Stamkos. I'm pretty sure I could get about 20 points a season playing besides that guy.
