Another way to get around somebody from management is to take part in related conferences - analytics (you must've heard about MIT Sloan Sport Analytics - http://www.sloansportsconference.com/), sport management, etc. My daughter is attempting a career in sports management and she went to this year Sports Managment Conference at NHL Draft (https://www.sportsmanagementworldwide.com/conferences/nhl-draft-sports-career-conference). This conference along has helped to get a few very good contacts.

    Worst Free Agent Signings Ever

Oh wow! How did that not get mentioned? That's worse than any signing on this list. Of course, Messier revisionists would like to pretend it didn't happen. This is a man who named an award after himself.

Saw it posted in another thread and agree with the idea of there being such a thing as "too much" depth. Quincey's pretty much gone next season, but the Wings will still have six defensemen signed at the NHL level. They'll have the four defensive prospects we already discuss having to pass through waivers (XO, Marchenko, Jensen and Sproul), plus Russo chomping at the bit for one job in the NHL? Unless they're treating this season as a "one last shot" scenario for Kindl and Smith, with the intention of moving the one who impresses the least? Internal competition is one thing; this is a clogged drain. Plus, I think the defense core in Detroit is solid enough that one of those young guys should step in ASAP. Jump into a good situation on the bottom pair and learn from there. In particular, I don't think Marchenko has anything left to prove at the AHL level.

    Adidas Gets NHL Jersey Deal

Why can't teams negotiate their own deals ? You know ask some of these companies to provide an acceptable concept and choose the one that suits the winged wheel best. If that's Adidas so be it but if Nike has a better one why not choose them ? Personally I've always thought the more annoying an ad is the less likely I'll buy their product. Yes I know who that stupid Ge...o company is but thanks to their stupid annoying eyes I'd never ever choose their service. Same goes for that car insurance company - no freaking way. Can't wait till NHL players will look like moving billboards like in Europe.

Is there any way to Photoshop live TV so we can scrub the advertising? I can't imagine doing any ads front and center as the article claims. Around the bottom maybe?

I'm sorry but I don't understand how advertisers think that putting their ads on billboards or jersey's are going to make people buy their product. The ads are annoying and turn me off to their product.

Average goaltenders are good enough if there's a better team in front of them than what we have. But this is moot, as Howard was outplayed by Mrazek. If Mrazek sucked all year, Howard wouldn't have gotten as much hate. But this was a case where a better goalie was ready to come out. And before you go there, yes we lost in the first round with Mrazek. We wouldn't have likely won a game against Tampa with Howard in net. We just need to build a better team. Sadly, we won't have a team like LA or Chicago where you can win with pedestrian goaltending (Quick was average in the 2014 Cup run).

It's a combination of both things. But Mrazek outplayed Howard as the year went on, so of course I wanted the change. Who didn't around here?

If we had a great roster in front of him, Howard could continue to be average, and we'd advance through the playoffs. But we haven't had a great roster in a while, so we've needed something a bit better in net if we wanted to progress. We didn't get it from him. But if we're strictly talking about building teams, I'd go for a defenseman, then centerman and then a goalie. As I said, there's a lot of capable goalies nowadays that could win with a top roster in front of them. It's easy to develop goalies, but building a team around them isn't so easy with the cap. Those teams are behind the times. So is a team like New York and Montreal. They have the two best goalies in the league, but their rosters come up short in the playoffs. If they had a slightly better roster at the expense of spending a little less on their goalies, they could make a deeper playoff run.
