Moving Jimmy Howard
roboturner and one other reacted to PavelValerievichDatsyuk for a post in a topic
You've said this a few times, but I guess you haven't read people's responses. He's been there for his 3 years. It's not a possibility for him to play there. We'd have to send through waivers and there's 0% chance he'd make it through. Furthermore, playing more in the AHL wouldn't help his game - he needs to just get used to the higher skill level/faster pace etc... Somebody else mentioned Carey Price - we all saw him struggle for years. Few, if any, goalies enter the league as all stars - they go through some growing pains. -

I think Mrazek has the potential to be an elite NHL goaltender, and I do believe he will be our clear number one at some point this season, possibly as early as Christmas. Like many have already pointed out though, it would be a huge mistake to trade Howard before next offseason unless some team blows us away with an offer we can't refuse (not going to happen...). The competition will be great for both goalies and we need the insurance in case one of them goes down with some sort of injury... -

Curtis Glencross regrets taking hometown discount
frankgrimes reacted to Hockeytown0001 for a post in a topic
http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/818687?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter If he could do it all over again, Curtis Glencross would take the opportunity to cash in. With NHL training camps set to begin in a matter of weeks, the unrestricted free-agent forward remains without a contract, and Glencross is lamenting the now-expired four-year, $10.2-million deal he signed with the Calgary Flames back in 2011. Instead of exploring his options and seeking the best possible deal at that point in his career, he re-upped with the Flames at below market value. The 32-year-old believes he set himself back, based on how his time in Calgary ended. "If I could do it again ... as much as I love (Calgary) and call it home and met great people, at the same time, when it's time for you to cash in, you have to take advantage and cash in," he told Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun. "You can't take a pay cut or hometown discount because things change." "I loved my time in Calgary and the organization," Glencross added, "but you learn that eventually it's a business and you're just a number." Glencross scored a career-high 26 goals during the first season of that four-year extension, but his production dropped as his ice time diminished under head coach Bob Hartley. Dealt to the Washington Capitals prior to the trade deadline this past season, teams aren't offering anything close to what he could have made in 2011, and he may have to accept a pro tryout should he fail to sign a contract before camp. "I thought something would be done by now, but obviously, the market is not there, and everyone is against the cap," he said. "Teams are paying the top two lines so much money that all they can do is fill with entry-level guys who are going to not cost much. "We've talked to a few teams. They want to do a trade before camp, but it seems like no team wants to make the first move. So I'm just waiting. There's still got to be something out there. I still want to play. I'm only 32 and thinking I have a few more years left in me. " "I have a young family, and it's tough to bounce around on a PTO - it has to be a good opportunity, too, so I can do well and get an extension," Glencross added. In 507 career games, Glencross has scored 134 goals, four of which came in 18 games with the Capitals, for whom he added one in ten playoff games. -

I think Mrazek has a higher ceiling no doubt, but right now I would take Howard too. People seem to forget how consistent Howard has been since becoming the starter. He's not a superstar, but he is still a very good goalie. -

Again, Glencross isn't saying anything about struggling to live on the millions he's made. He's talking about leaving money on the table. Now that he's been traded after taking a hometown discount he realizes that this is first and foremost a business and regrets his decision. -

Round out his game in the AHL? You just don't get it do you? Guy, it's not 2012 anymore. Mrazek would need to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL. Is this what you are suggesting? -

Athletes should cash in when they get a chance, since injuries can strike at any moment. Which is the reason I'm never offended when a player leaves for another team. On the flip side if Glencross played better he wouldn't have a problem finding a decent deal, the guy's only 32. -

The article never said he's broke or was reckless with his money. Just his sentiment that he could have cashed in on his last big contract instead of taking a discount. -

I think he meant more that Stamkos wouldn't want to go there since they're rebuilding and it looks like they won't be competing for quite a while. -

That would be a good trade for the Oilers if it's a 1st idk why they wouldn't take it but I'd rather have RNH than Hall. I'm talking about the one Kip mentioned, I really like Sheahan but I'd like this trade Sheahan Sproul Smith and Howard and a 1st/2nd rounder for RNH Talbot and a 3rd or 4th round pick -

if you don't have anything to add to the conversation or are here just to troll, then move along. if you remember, last season when the rumors about Hall being traded went around, an Oiler reporter named a few teams and players that would get a trade done. Detroit was named and the return was Sheahan, Sproul and 1st round pick for Hall & Petry. So laugh all you want, but if that would have been enough then Jimmy, Smith, Sproul and a pick is more than enough for Hall. But by all means, troll along. BTW, Hossa has 3 Cups since we signed the other guy instead, he is still top line material and would be here scoring 40 goals playing top 3 sniper role. Fact. -

I forgot Matt Cooke was bought out by the Wild. I'm guessing some team will pick him up for cheap, but I hold out hope this will be the year that POS is finally out of the league. http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/818372 -

I am sure glad someone else made this thread and not me! Jimmy WILL be moved before 16-17, unless Mrazek totally takes a crap fest this season (which I highly doubt,) because solid tandem or not, Holland cannot and will not have over $8M (at least) tied up in his goalies. And that is IF Mrazek re-signs for only $3M. If he wins 25+ games and takes them into the 2nd round at least, I see him getting closer to $4M. NO WAY will Holland have that much money tied up in goalies. For all you Holland slappies out there (and even me from a financial standpoint) you better hope that Howard outplays and keeps his starting job all season and limits Petr's starts to 20 or less. That way, Petr may re-sign for something around $2M, which could keep Jimmy around for another season. But then again, if Petr goes 17-3 or so in those 20 starts and Jimmy DOES re-gain his #1 form, that could mean more in return for him next summer. Either way, as Mrazek continues his progression the way he has been, Jimmy's days are dwindling, that is the truth. Lets just hope we can get great value for him when it comes times to trade him....and he cooperates by listing 10 or so teams he will or won't go to. In Edmonton, I would love to see him Packaged with Smith and Sproul and a pick (or maybe a young forward) to acquire one of their scorers (Taylor Hall maybe.) -
1 point1st time we have a somewhat solid tandem right in a while right? Why would anyone break that up?

MrazekFanBoy reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
This reminds me when the Wings poached Coffey out of LA for fallen center-man Carson. He was pure offense, D was a bit of a question. Not to worry, Coffey scored so much here that he won a Norris during his time. Green has been close to winning before, but I predict that he WILL win a Norris within his three year contract. I also predict he will never leave Detroit, he will retire a Red Wing. ...besides, most players who sign here or are traded here do. That is the difference between this franchise and most others, we treat our players so well that they usually never leave. Welcome to Detroit, again, Mike Green. It was inevitable that you come here, and now you will see what its like to play for the best sports franchise in the World! -
