What a game Larkin's playing vs Canada. 2 assists for Larkin so far Can 2-3 USA 2nd period. Though, I think He, Larkin, tipped the puck in Matthews shot for the 1st goal. -

1 pointIf Datsyuk is gone (looks like he is), Holland will definitely do whatever he can to trade the contract. But why the hell would he say that he will trade it when Pav was still undecided a month or two ago? If there's even a shred of hope that he might come back, you don't say you're going to trade the contract. All that would do is make Pav's decision that much easier. Although I think he may have had his mind made up even long before we first heard about it... Still though, if we've learned anything over the years, it's that what Holland (and other GM's / coaches) say to the media isn't always 100% accurate. Datsyuk's contract will be traded, unless like has been mentioned, the asking price is way too high (I don't think it will be)... I wouldn't mind seeing Pav do something similar to what Selanne did with Anaheim in the 2007-08 season. We could keep his contract on the books, he could stay over in Russia with his daughter, continue to practice and train over there until after Christmas, and come back to Detroit for one last push / playoff run... I guess that would all depend on whatever other moves we could possibly make though. Obviously if that contract is the only thing preventing us to sign a big name free agent or make a trade, then we try to trade it. But if it's going to be dead cap space and Pav would be willing to do that, I'd certainly entertain the idea of him coming back for one last hurrah...

I like guys like Abdelkader. It's stupid to pay them that much on that long of a deal. Generally the idea of a long contract is to either lock up an elite player or to lower the cap hit for a lesser player. His deal does neither, and he's approaching the age where players like him tend to start breaking down. In three years I think we're going to be seeing him playing 60 Games on the 4th line scoring 8-10 goals, not hitting as much, and soaking up way too much cap. -

Yet Nyquist didn't improve and sank to Abbys production. We've got a $4.75 million contract scoring 17 goals and your concern is the guy who scored 19 and does everything else. Didn't you criticise this idea in Mantha's thread? "If a guy scores and doesn't do much else vs someone who can do everything else". -

Holland better trade that damn contract then -
1 pointZ isn't as good anymore so playing with him isn't as awesome as it used to be. Nyquist plays with Tatar who has some of the best possession numbers on the team (better than Zetterberg's) .. Not to mention Nyquist plays against lesser competition more often than not as well. Additionally Abdelkader's ice time also goes towards penalty killing. About 1.5 minutes per game he plays shorthanded. Something Nyquist doesn't do. Even with less ice time, Nyquist managed to take more shots on goal over the course of the year. Yet Abdelkader had 4 game winning goals to Nyquist's 3. No matter how one cuts it. Abdekader makes less money, has about the same points as Nyquist and does more on ice with penalty killing, blocked shots, hits (team leader for hits btw) and fighting. I'd say for all the things I listed, in terms of money the Red Wings management is getting a bigger bang for their buck with Abdelkader's deal compared to Nyquist's deal at the moment.

Can't believe what I'm reading here people would rather have a known lockerroom cancer (Radulov) and some good - but not Stammer good - players instead of an elite center not even in his prime yet? Yes, the Wings priority #1 needs to be the blueline at all costs but other than drafting into the top 10 or trading for Trouba there is nobody available so the options here are (sadly) limited. BUT all Stamkos would cost is money, guys of his ilk usually don't make to UFA and people would pass on that opportunity? Seriously the Wings also need to replace an elite #1 center in Pasha because the truth is Z's top 6 center days are over and if Larkin takes a bit of a step back, the Wings would be without a number 1 center. So Stammer would make a lot of sense. The funny thing is, I don't even expect to sign here but taking the afore mentioned guys over him? Wow that's just insane. -
