Too much analysis. Showing loyalty to Cleary wasn't a big deal in my opinion. He didn't hold anyone back, same with Abby. All our young players are either here now, or had their chance. With Datsyuk and Zetterberg, the Wings Management we're going to go for it to try and win Championships. Once one of them retired, it would be time to rebuild. Datsyuk's gone, so we are in the rebuild stage.

    Trouba or Pick

Yeah, it's a no-brainer for me, I'd take Trouba every time in that scenario. I'd even strongly consider it if the trade were made after the draft lottery and we won the top pick. Not saying I'd do it for sure, but I'd definitely have to think long and hard about it. I don't think Nolan Patrick is going to be an absolute stud, certainly nowhere close to the level of McDavid or Matthews, and he probably fits closer to a player like Hall (although a center), maybe even Nugent-Hopkins or dare I say, Yakupov... And look what Hall was traded for last year, and Trouba is light-years ahead of Larsson. I think Patrick's potential is about the same as where Trouba is at now in his development, and I still think Trouba has a ton of room to grow. I guess it just depends what you value more, the number one center, or the top pair defenseman? We need both, but I think we have a bigger need for the top pair (number one) defenseman.

Hell if Stammer had come here, everyone would have hailed KH as a genius. As things stand, jury's out and it far too early to make a judgement on the trade. Chychrun will probably round out as a #3 d-man, but could rise to a #2 or stall to a #5. Cholowski is much more boom or bust. His passing and skating are both excellent, and he's clearly a very smart kid both on and off the ice, but much will depend on his physical development and ability to cope with NHL physicality. He could be a top pairing guy if it all pans out or he could never make it past GR. Hronek looks a great pick at this stage, a sort of combination of Sproul and Oullette, but better rounded than both. Very impressive points totals to date, and impressive international play. Still too far off to make a call, but he certainly has 2nd pairing potential. And of course the other factor is how Nielsen does for us, and perhaps what we get in return for Vanek, who took up the rest of the space cleared by Dats. If Nielsen maintains a decent level of play and the Vanek pick is used well, we'll look like big winners on this deal unless Chychrun hits that 1st pairing potential and neither Cholowski or Hronek hit their potential. All far too far off to guess at. What I will say is that it is undoubtedly the case that Nielsen is being affected by the coaching and systemic mess we currently have. Seeing as Blash has made every single previous roster player's points output drop by a significant %, its safe to assume Nielsen may be affected by that as well.

    Trouba or Pick

I don't think a late first and a "lower level player" would be enough to land Trouba, but I'd definitely do the late first and a higher level player and / or prospect... Late 1st plus Tatar / Svechnikov. Imagine adding Trouba and Patrick / Vilardi this summer...

...the tire is on fire...and Kenny is kicking it. But it won't go out, it just sits there, burning, smoking, filling the lungs of all Wings fans with toxic fumes of death...kick it some more Kenny!

    Trouba or Pick

I don't think you think highly enough of Trouba, or what he would bring to this team... All his numbers point to him being a legit top pair defenseman, right now at the age of 22, and he will most likely develop into a true number one within the next year or two. Trouba would instantly be our undisputed number one (I know, not saying much on this team...), he logs a ton of minutes, can run a power-play, kill penalties, hits, blocks shots, clears the net-front, and drives possession. What are the chances we get anything close to that in this years draft? I'd say slim to none. Sure, Liljegren could develop into a good offensive defenseman, maybe he even becomes a top pair guy, but I highly doubt he will become anything close to a well rounded player like Trouba.

    2017 Draft

I wouldn't group Hischier into the play small Nyquist type. He uses his body and stick like Z. I actually think that is a very good comparison as far as game/potential go.

    Trouba or Pick

Unless we land the first pick, possibly the second pick logic dictates a straight pick swap for Trouba.

    2017 Draft

As long as we don't grab another 5'10" 175 lbs forward. Tired of our "goal scorers" being small and easily thrown around.

    Trouba or Pick

I'd like to see how the trade deadline plays out first. If the Wings can grab another first round pick I'd package that with a lower level player for Trouba.

    Trouba or Pick

I wouldn't hesitate a second to take Trouba for the pick. Every pick as an inherent risk. You didn't see that player perform in an NHL-game. And there are several examples where No.1-No.5 picks were used on players that later didn't pan out as expected. With Trouba we can be pretty sure that we get what we need the most right now.

    Trouba or Pick

Without a solid puck moving D-core any more offense we bring in might not help. It takes a long time to develop defense and we need our defense to start being good by the time Mantha Larkin and AA are in their prime. Trouba would be a solid start but I don't think he would help much unless we start developing our current prospects into top 4 dmen and start drafting some high caliber dmen as well. Once our defense is established we can start bringing in offense to compliment our young forward group, since forwards usually take less time to develop.

    Trouba or Pick

Any kind of trade for Trouba that uses the top 5 pick, and doesn't involve AA, Mantha, or Larkin I am in for. He is 22 and only going to get better over the next decade. This draft class is weak compared to the last few but it is no worse than 2012.

Mantha is far more valuable than Fowler... this team has trouble scoring, and Mantha should only get better.

    2017 Draft

The thing for me, is next year at the deadline I could see Green getting us a first round pick, and at this point as much as I like XO and Sproul, I think a 1st rounder > XO or Sproul.

Agreed, I protect DD, Trouba and one of XO/Sproul (if we can trade Green).

EXACTLY my thinking. Thank you. Until we know what kind of players Chychrun and Cholowski both are we can't close the book on this deal. We also don't know what will become of Vanek, Nielsen, and Ott just yet. And to be fair they haven't been able to play on a decent Red Wings team yet. Everyone's constantly clamoring for Holland to swing for the fences, and then when he actually swings people complain. He missed the ball on this one, but that was out of his control. He tried. Nielsen and Vanek were plan B.

    Goodbye Ken Holland?

This team can't even compete for the best owner in all of sports. I'm done with that sorry excuse of a team wearing the winged wheel on their chest. I want someone from the outside coming in with full authority to clean house, like Toronto did under Shanahan. Larkin, Mantha, AA, Danny D. are pieces to build around other than them good bye and it's also time for the architect of this to take responsibility and move up or out. He did a lot of great things but he has no clue how to do a rebuild which is ok he never had to go through one. Bring in Maloney and Hitchcock please

    Gustav Nyquist Hearing

6 games huh? A few years ago the way Nyquist was playing you'd think that by now having him out that long would be a huge problem for the team. But they won't even notice he's gone. Nyquist was the future. Now he's not even the present.

But he brings you his insight from ice level. Who else is gonna do that for you? Two pisses in the same sentence, nice! But ... yeah, it's painful.
