All of which has been overhyped by placing it under a microscope, over-analyzed, and repeated. Until I read a statement from his teammates, coaches, or Ken Holland that Mrazek has a bad attitude, is a problem in the locker room, or is uncoachable, the it all remains speculation from writers amplified by fan bias. -

But it isn't just Holland. Several teams have goalies that might be claimed but haven't traded them. People are looking at expansion like the Wings were supposed to gain something from it. But everyone is losing something. About the best you could hope for is not pay too much to dump a bad contract and maybe sort of break even. Even if we were able to trade Mrazek for a 3rd or something, we'd still lose someone else in expansion. There are benefits to losing Mrazek. Pros and cons to everything. I don't like the prospect of losing Mrazek either, and I hope he isn't taken, but I don't think it's that bad if he is. This is why people shouldn't speculate. Casual comments from people who don't actually know anything have a way of turning into "fact" when they're repeated enough. We don't know, or have any particularly good reason to suspect, that Mrazek has any real attitude problem. -

Sounds like the Krueger TVR deal may be off EDIT: Wonder if this has anything to do with Hossa retiring and his cap money now being available. If so, they revealed his mysterious ailment at a very convenient time. -

The only counter to that is there may have been zero interest prior to the expansion draft, but then interest afterwards. One of the experts were talking about this. Teams didn't want to trade for Mrazek because they didn't think he was worth protecting. After the draft a team will have nothing to really lose other then a 4mil cap hit for a year. With that being said, we should have protected Mrazek (then they likely don't select Jimmy) and then we could have traded Mrazek tomorrow. -

A potential elite (at worst decent) goaltender should be worth more to a team than a potential 2nd pair (at worst 3rd pair) defenseman. Holland could have protected Mrazek and Vegas wouldn't have touched Howard. We would have had a great duo for another season, and make a decision next summer... You're absolutely right. The decision to leave Mrazek exposed, doesn't make any sense. As I've said, I don't buy the attitude problem bulls***. Is it possible that Holland may have lost it? Is it possible that he's not the same GM he was 10+ years ago? That's my assumption. He's made a lot of bad (horrible) decisions over the past few years, and they seem to be getting progressively worse. IF Mrazek is taken in the expansion draft, I do hope that Chris Ilitch strongly considers the future of this team, and who should be managing it going forward... I don't think it should be Holland. -

I'm not trying to take away from anyone's self-created narrative to build up or take down a player. Have your fun. I blame the writers looking for a scoop not you. Except CRL. You're just straight-up evil, bruh. -

Even if the Ducks are in "win now" mode, it still makes zero sense. In 2017-18 Shea Theodore will be as good or better than Sami Vatanen, and is 5 years younger, with the potential to become a top 10 defenseman in the league. There's not one part of this rumor that makes sense. Even a first to keep Vatanen is a steep price to pay, but certainly more plausible than Theodore... -

If it's true that management have put Coreau ahead of Mrazek, that scares the s*** out of me... What makes them believe Coreau is better than Mrazek? Because he's bigger? He doesn't use that 6'6", 220lb. frame to his advantage at all. Because he won the Calder Cup? So did Mrazek, the difference being Coreau did it this year at 25, and Mrazek did it 4 years ago at 21. Mrazek has also had better numbers than Coreau every step of the way. Even as badly as Mrazek struggled this past season, his numbers were still better than Coreau's. Mrazek is a thousand times better than Coreau and any other goaltender in the pipeline. It's not even close. The fact that so many are ready to give up on a goaltender as young and talented as Mrazek is mind blowing. I don't give a s*** about the bad attitude. If he has such a poor attitude, trade him, don't give him away for free... Protecting Howard over Mrazek was the wrong decision. I don't care if Howard has been better this past season, Mrazek is the better goaltender for this team going forward. He's 8 years younger and on a better contract (still RFA). There's no question in my mind that he will rebound from last season, it's just a matter of where he will be when he does it. BUT, let's just say he doesn't rebound and he puts up similar numbers again this season. Then don't offer him a new contract next summer, simple as that. Protecting Howard served no purpose. There's no way Vegas would have taken him, unless there was some sort of incentive attached to it. Anyway, I think it's crazy that Holland actually left Mrazek unprotected, all we can hope for at this point is that maybe there's some sort of deal under the table to keep Mrazek while "sending him a message"... -

The more insider takes I read, the more it seems the organization is simply done with Mrazek. Elliotte Friedman: What to make of Detroit’s decision to leave Petr Mrazek unprotected? That last season was a rough one between the player and the organization. Their contract negotiation in the summer of 2016 was tense, and it carried over. There was a ton of mutual frustration last season. It’s also clear that Jared Coreau, who won the Calder Cup with AHL Grand Rapids, passed Mrazek in the organizational structure. One year ago, Mrazek was the future star and Jimmy Howard was on the outs. Things change fast in the NHL. The big question becomes, what happens if the Golden Knights don’t take Mrazek? Friedman is one of the most credible, respected names in professional hockey rumormongering; if he's saying it's clear that Coreau has passed Mrazek on the organizational depth chart, we can be pretty sure that Coreau has, in fact, passed Mrazek on the organizational depth chart. -

It's concerning to me that people are honestly this blind about Petr Mrazek. He's seriously inconsistent and proven to be nothing more than an average goalie (so far). Which is okay because he's still young. I'm not saying he won't be a great goalie someday but jesus christ this guy is treated like he's DEFINITELY going to be the next Carey Price. Holland didn't protect Mrazek to "send him a message"? I'm starting to wonder if he didn't protect Mrazek to send us fans a message. "He's not that good ya'll, chill da f*** out" -
2 pointsYeah, in all the years I've been watching hockey, I can't even count the number of games I've seen decided by pull-ups.

Flames acquire Mike Smith
ChristopherReevesLegs and one other reacted to e_prime for a post in a topic
Babs didn't do right by any of these players and probably should have told Holland not to bother with any of these guys because he wasn't going to do f*** all with any of them. (Weiss, Tootoo, Commodore) Six years is a HUGE difference in any player's career... and no one is arguing that Kronwall should be leaned on at this point for top minutes, point production, or god forbid, Kronwalling of any type. ...but when this (Kronwall's) contract was signed there was no cap-recapture penalty if he decided to retire. So why wouldn't Holland use that loophole to bring down the cap-hit. Many other GMs did this but didn't have the same ramifications and didn't come back to bite them in the ass. Did Kenny have the foresight to know that the next CBA would dick him over in the waning years of Kronwall's contract? Did he know that Franzen would be sitting on his LITR for more than half of his contact with the same kinds of recapture penalties hanging over his head? Can you seriously blame Holland for player usage by the coach, player concussion issues, or overall declining health? I don't see how you can without your anti-Holland bias showing through. Also, to keep this post on topic. Mike Smith sucks and I would hate to have him as a goalie on the Wings. He gives me a heart attack everytime I watch him in net. I just never know wtf he seems to be thinking with his style of play. -

2017 Draft

Just a PSA/FYI here, I will on the road driving during the 1st round of the draft, so don't be to disappointed when I am not ranting right away! Actually, I won't be too mad really, we all have our favorites, but they'll draft who they need. I'm okay with it, I'd love to see Tippett, but I'd be OK if they passed on him to get something that'll bring us a Cup before Pitt or Chicago gets another one! Doesn't mean I won't fire off a couple of explanative words if he does pass on him though! I have to! It's my duty! -

1 pointNope, if he stinks up his last year of his deal, let him go. One bad season can be forgiven with a young developing goalie, but two in a row, move on. Maybe a change of teams will help him. That being said, nearly the whole team had a s*** season. Coreau had worse numbers and Howard only played 26 games because of two injuries. Could he have kept up his solid numbers for longer? Who knows. It's a small sample size to justify protecting him, just like Mrazek's attitude is a poor excuse to expose him, but it is what it is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointHe'll get into the Hall of Fame, maybe not in the first class but he will. Three Stanley cups, over a 1000 points and over 500 goals in the modern era is impressive.

And, it wouldn't be much of a "wake up call" if we (and Mrazek) knew that Holland was sure Mrazek would not be selected. So, if that's the case, we're likely to remain unaware of Holland's exact reasoning on the decision. -

1 point12 year actually.. crazy. And his cap hit is 5.25 while the actual salary is 1 mill for the next four years before it's over. Watch him be done and Arizona trade them some young stud who tears it up on a 700k contract.
