Actually, I see the opposite...reality is that overall talent is up (across the board, including coaching and techniques). Defensive play and goaltending is way better now, it's much harder to score. In today's game, Yzerman puts up no where near 120pts.

Oh I'm not optimistic about this, I am just saying best case scenario. What I actually think will happen....I think Mrazek's poor play will continue, we will trade him for a 3rd (similar to the jurco deal) and then we hold on to Howard and sign him to an extension, pick up a vet to back him up (A Chad Johnson type) and wait for Petruzzelli to hopefully develop.

It shouldnt be hard to trade Jimmy after this year. With one year remaining and his play being where it is I could see him being in demand and gaining us a return. Best case for us is both goalies play good, and then we move forward with Mrazek and trade Jimmy.

Yep, its really not that big of a deal. If ur team is bad and they want out, they'll waive it. Unless ur the Shane Doan type and you just don't want to leave. That's loyalty/commitment to ur team/community. That's a good thing in its own way (unless/until Shane Doan turns into Dan Cleary anyway). NTC/NMC are really only about giving the player more control over their future, especially when they have families. They aren't some insurmountable obstacle that makes them untradeable. Nor does it mean the team is stuck with them forever. Is Holland making his job more difficult if he needs to trade someone? Yes, but not impossible. Besides, that is not even the reason those players aren't being traded. Take away the NTC/NMC from those contracts and those players aren't getting traded anyway. Not Ken's style. So why all the uproar?

Booth & Witkowski drawing in would give us twelve skaters. Sounds like Helm's problem is pretty borderline, so I'm not expecting a callup. Svechbro is in a serious funk, so we can probably cross him off the call-up list anyway.
