Pretty sure they said she's done with school and starting her residency, not that that makes much difference. Also, what if she gets a job in Montana or Louisiana? Is he just going to retire? Pretty sure they're going to make a decision together, taking the desires and best interests of both into consideration. Similar in many respects to the way real-life people do. -

I find myself agreeing with Buppy quite often lately. The notion that Athanasiou is the better goal-scorer really isn't all that controversial. Mantha gets the top-line minutes because Blashill thinks Mantha's the better fit there. Is Bertuzzi a better scorer than AA? Nope, but we all seem to be ok with Bertuzzi-Larkin-Mantha being our top line going into Game 1 of the 2019-20 season. Because Bertuzzi, Larkin, and Mantha seem to work well together. AA's settling in as a guy who can break a game wide open on any given shift but isn't necessarily someone you can fully trust to play the big minutes against the other team's top players. I think Blashill sees him as someone who can potentially devour other teams' secondary and tertiary talent on a consistent basis. Mantha seems to be better suited for the truly heavy lifting. The real tragedy here is that none of this really matters. Wanna put Athanasiou on the top line and Mantha on the second line? Cool, we're still in the same boat as a team and as an organization. We're a one-line team, and that one line isn't anything special. We have no depth at the NHL level. -

meh. I'll start complaining about the cap situation when we've got a young core that's worthy of a Cup and bad contracts are catastrophically hindering our ability to open and maintain a Cup window. I suspect Yzerman was fine with signing Flip and Nemeth to two-year deals because he dgaf. I think he feels we're at least two years away from seriously contending. By that point, most of these bad contracts that everyone's always harping on will be off the books. -
1 pointFrom an Athletic article detailing how effectively each team has used its cap space. Detroit was dead last. Last, and certainly least, it’s Detroit. How could it be any other team? With four contracts in the D-range on the books, the Red Wings are in a four-way tie for the most bad deals in the league. Where Detroit differs is that the other teams have a few more above average deals to offset the pain. Not Detroit who have as many toxic deals as above-average ones. Those belong to Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi and Andreas Athanasiou – four forwards that provide the bulk of the team’s on-ice value. Without them, this team would be cooked. The biggest issue for Detroit is how much the team is spending for a marginal win over the remainder of their contracts. It’s not just the alarming number of poor deals, or the certainty in how bad those deals are, but the fact that those deals are mostly for players that bring huge negative value. The team is spending $14.5 million per win, the league’s second-highest mark. That contributes to the team’s 35 percent average for positive value probability which is the league’s lowest mark, stemming from seven deals sitting at an under 20 percent success rate. The team signed a replacement level forward to a two-year deal worth $3 million per, and it’s somehow not even close to being the worst deal on the books. That honour could go to Trevor Daley or Danny DeKeyser or Jonathan Ericsson or Darren Helm or Frans Nielsen or Justin Abdelkader and the fact the team has this many options is why they’re ranked so low. (Abdelkader made the honourable mentions list on last week’s worst contracts, but through my own personal error should’ve actually been … second. I wrote down that he only had three years left, but he actually has four somehow. My sincerest apologies). None of them are that expensive, but those deals add up into death by a thousand cuts. Those seven deals are collectively worth $69 million in financial commitment over the next several seasons, $29 million of which is tied up in next year’s cap. The Red Wings stand to lose just over five wins of value combined from those players over the entirety of their contract, with 40 percent of that coming in 2019-20. That’s as bad as it gets. Well, actually, it gets worse. The next five deals are worth $17 million and are worth negative 0.1 wins on top of that. I just can’t fathom that a professional hockey team is spending over $80 million on players that are actively hurting the team’s chances of winning. New GM Steve Yzerman has his work cut out for him.

I agree, but most won't. It's all opinion really. I happen to feel that in no world is Bertuzzi better than AA in the scoring role. Two different players. But I like them all and hope they don't trade any of them. -

Yep. But we're not talking about the rest of the league. We're talking about a handful of Wings forwards. Mantha and Bertuzzi both got to play in the tournament and AA didn't. Mantha because he has some international pedigree (WJHC) and is actually better than AA. Bertuzzi because he's a ******* motherf***ing GAMER and is actually better than AA. -
1 pointI totally agree with your view of Mantha and AA and i can absolutly understand that some people like AA more just because he is the more exciting player. You need both types of players on your team anyway and I´m more than happy we have both. The only thing I am/was not happy about, was the direction it took since yesterday, where it was not just looking for pros and cons, it started to get personnel to a certain extend, which is just unnecessary.

We were the 4th worst team in the league last year. I hate to say this as I'm usually pro "accumulate talent based on priority of needs"...but we need major help in every area. Offense, defense, goal-scorers, shut down D, offensive D, puck movers, ....you name it and we pretty much need it. I'd lean towards best available talent with the best contract terms for the Wings and our 3-5 year roadmap. We could debate the bigger wants/needs for months, and maybe Stevie and the Wings brass have a better idea of what gaps to fill first, but the reality is that we need a lot on both ends of the ice. Just my $.02 -
1 pointCool. There are probably about 10 for me. None of the teams of those defensemen would trade them though, so what's the point? Why trade away your best goal scorer to fill one hole and create another? There also aren't many defensemen in the league I'd trade Larkin for right now. I guess I'm a Larkin "hypeboy" too... Nope. Mantha is our best goal scorer. He's been the better goal scorer in junior (CHL), minors (AHL) and pro (NHL). What makes you think Athanasiou or Larkin are better goal scorers? Nah, I wouldn't. I just don't see the point in acquiring another right-handed defenseman right now. Our top two young defensemen (Seider and Hronek) are both right-handed. We lack goal scoring and Athanasiou is another guy that can put the puck in the net. There's no way Buffalo or Dallas would trade Dahlin or Heiskanen, but if we could somehow acquire a defenseman like that, I'd obviously do it.
