Veleno going to the WJHC Here's some nice things Hockey People Say Nice Things About Joe McIsaac starting top pair with Byram etc Should be a fun tournament with so many or Detroit's A-Level prospects playing. And we're probably going to see this year's top 5 pick play too, whomever that might be.

The December trade is coming, I can feel it. Any idea who would be available or who you'd want from the Flames or Avs?

I imagine on the day they made roster cuts they just missed crossing off Ehn's name because it's so short, so he showed up for the season, but no one really noticed he's not supposed to be there cause he blends right in, and there's a glitch in the payroll software and he's still getting paid like the stapler dude from office space.

I think the earliest possible would be day 1 of the end of the regular season. Everyone knows it's a sacrificial season, so no need to fire Blash prior. But Steve may want "his guy" in the room so they can start planning next years season as early as this spring.

I'd like to see Steve throw money at the position or draft Askarov. It's gonna be depressing for us and for the players to have Howie/Bern in the net again next year. Like you said, it would do a lot for the teams confidence if we went out and got a goalie who can legit backstop the team so they can play. I think Steve knows he has to address this, and based on his aggressiveness I think he will. He's got a lot of time to scheme between now and July 1st so we'll see what happens. I hope he's a mad man at the TDL this year.

I know you guys made fun of my want for us to draft Liam Kirk, but I would still love for Yzerman to trade for his rights. He is unsigned by the Yotes, he is playing in Peterborough and is second in team scoring with 36 points (15 goals) in 29 games. I know it's Jr. but with our lack of scoring up front (he is listed as a LW/C) we could use some more options IMO. Is he better than what we have in GR or in the pipeline already? I am not sure, but more depth means more competition, plus continue trading away Hollands players and getting his own. I'd do Ehn or Turgeon for Kirk.

The worst thing that ever happened to Mraz IMO was going to arbitration and getting awarded $4 mil... and then not living up to it. His fate was sealed after that. He basically humiliated his GM. I 100% agree. This team is going to be forced to look outside the organization, which is not a good thing, it's a last resort really. We have zero goalie prospects that will be ready anytime soon by all indications, and anyone we draft this year will only take longer... Except... There is one... Askarov DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN

I always liked Cujo and used to get s*** for it. Dominator definitely f***ed up his stay here a bit.

Sure, "could've" in a philosophical sense. But I'm pretty certain Mraz wanted off the team anyway. Holland's mistake with Bernier is independent of Mrazek, but yeah Berns sucks, just not sure what if any alternative was available to Holland at the time. I know you're a goal guy, I think you and I will be synced up in the next few years on this. I am adamant about addressing the net at this point. Berns sucks and Howie is aging out. If we are to play this smart we have to assume Larsson/Petruzzelli/Eliason/Brattstrom/VPB/Gylander are all big fat mistakes. Address a need until it is no longer a need, and their exists a large need in net.

I was just listening to old episodes of spittin' chiclets. Literally an episode right before Yzerman traded for Perlini, Bissonnette - who's a rep for the yotes, whom Perllini was drafted by - was talking about how Perlini just doesn't have what it takes to be an NHLer and wouldn't make it with the Hawks. That he's basically a goof, doesn't work hard, doesn't take anything seriously. Would rather f*** around than have a pro career. IDK I'm starting to think we lost this trade. It will sting a lot worse if Regula makes the NHL. That said, Yzerman is basically doing the same thing that he did when he first got to Tampa, he's slinging s*** at the walls and hoping it sticks. Some of those s*** burgers aren't gonna stick. I accept the strategy, just didn't work out great in this instance.

I was with you until you said to buyout Bernier and re-sign Howard... Neither have been very good, but Bernier has been better. Bernier is also 4 years younger with 1 year left on his deal. Regardless how this season plays out, it would be dumb to buyout Bernier. Keep him for one more season, let Howard walk, see how Comrie looks at the end of the season, and either go with Bernier / Comrie, or UFA / Bernier. I'm hopeful that Comrie can develop into the goaltender he was once projected to be, just a few short years ago.

Sorry for the thread derail in advance I'm reading about Newfoundland (don't ask me why). Is Newfoundland secretly a hidden gem god tier location? Best fishing in the North Atlantic including cod, salmon, shellfish, crab, shrimp, mackerel, and halibut Beautiful bluffs and coastline Literal bad ass moat surrounding the entire place for safety Strategically controls the mouth of the St. Lawrence and could cut off shipping to the great lakes and the interior of Canada/NA Developed its own customs and culture independent of Britain and Canada, unlike ontario which is basically America light Self-governing dominion because freedom n stuff Didn't bow down to the Canadian yoke until 1949 (should never have) Per capita GDP in 2017 was $62,573, higher than the national average and third only to oil-cheaters Alberta and Saskatchewan Abundant in zinc, copper, silver, and gold literally supplies over 50% of Canada's iron ore alone Population booming and increasing 20% over the last 5 years 72% of Newfies identify as Newfie first and Canadian second Not an over-run urban crap hole (yet) I'm on to you and @marcaractac schemes pretending Newfoundland is some backwater place. Trying to keep us mainland folk out I presume. Why has Newfoundland not declared independence from Canada yet? Should do what the Quebecois don't have the balls to get done. Ameribros will support you.

Bowey definitely has all the tools needed. Hard shot, can skate, big, can play physical. But he reminds me so much of Kindl/Smith. That is, he doesn't know how to use his tool box. Lack of IQ. Say what you will about Ericsson, but E is probably the opposite of this. He has no offense, can barely skate, but at least plays the game simple and is positionaly sound. E has IQ (at least enough to barely squeak out a job). Bowey shows flashes of what he has, but it's not nearly enough to be an NHL regular. And as he'll be 25 in about 5 months that window is shutting quickly. Unfortunately, IMO, I think we're looking at finished product here.

Regardless what happens with Seider this season, he will most definitely be up full time next season. Let's say he has this sort of production the next three seasons... 2020-21 (19 years old) - 20 points 2021-22 (20 years old) - 30 points 2022-23 (21 years old) - 50 points Would you prefer to negotiate his next long term contract after two full seasons? Or three fulls seasons? Sliding ELC's is what teams up against the cap should be doing. Not rebuilding teams with a s*** to of cap space. Again, if we think this kid is the real deal (I do), get him up for those 10 games, burn that first year and get him closer to restricted free agency.

Finally Zadina is in the top 6. Can't wait to see what he can do with elite power forward Luke Glendening. I suspect Yzerman was keeping Bowey on the team to make an attractive piece of trade bait. But he is just too awful at this point that it's actually hurting his value. It's not Seider time yet, but the age of McIlrath-Biega is upon us.
