Don't forget about the conversions from US dollars to Canadian! How did I straw man? I don't think you understand the word you just used. In addition to the front office, I mentioned the owner specifically. I'll try to reword what I said. If you still don't get it, I'll type in caps lock for you to see if it helps. The NHL, like all major sports, is a competitive sport. Meaning teams will always look to create and exploit advantages they have. If we happen to have an owner who has a better cash flow than another owner, that's an advantage. People accept that in sports. Any owner in the NHL, NFL, NBA etc is well aware of these advantages or disadvantages when buying a team. No one questions it. In any case, there are already measures that help hedge this. The salary cap serves two purposes. One is to save the owners money, the other is to narrow the gap between what a heavy spender can pay, and what a low spender can't to create parity. Nobody except for you for some sad reason cares or thinks it should be completely even. If something drastic happened to the Illitch family's empire tomorrow - would you expect the NHL to stop and say, "hey guys, we all have to spend 25mil less so that the Illitch family can catch up and it's all fair." I sure hope not. Teams have inherent advantages and disadvantages. That is all a part of pro sports. Key word, pro. Not commy. There's nothing you can do about that. Some players might only want to play in warm weather year round. How can Detroit compete with that? Florida doesn't have a State income tax, how do we compete with that? Some players love the spot light and media attention like New York, Toronto, Montreal. How do we compete with that? Some players like anonymity and don't want to be recognized when they go out to eat. So how do we compete with Arizona? Some players want to play in big thriving cities. How do we compete with NY, Chicago and LA? The point is, you can't go around life worrying about every little thing trying to make it fair because whatever you try to correct today, someone will just move the goal post tomorrow and say something else isn't fair. Professional sports was never made to be fair. There's youth hockey for a reason. go cheer on some peewees.

You're so fixated on mortality rate. What you arent considering is: 1. The permanent and long term damage done by the virus to many who survive the disease. 2. The recovery time. 2 weeks is a long and miserable time to be sick and miss a large amount of income. In some cases, it could cause a huge financial burden on families and businesses. 3. Also, 2 weeks is a long time to have to quarantine EVERY time you're exposed, even if you don't get it. 4. Even those at risk cannot quarantine forever. Its been over 6 months and it still isnt over. At some point, even these ones have to leave their homes, and they deserve to be safe. 5. No matter how healthy I am, I don't want to get sick because wearing a mask is soooo hard for you. 6. Most of those at risk getting sick isnt because they're going out. They're getting it from family members who are going out on their behalf so they dont have to and then unknowingly bringing it home. All of this could be mitigated by the simple and selfless act of wearing a face covering and maintaining social distancing. It's not just about people dying, its also about common decency and human respect.

I dont get this move. Why couldnt he just have been sent to the AHL? We would have gotten rid of his contract in 3 years, now its on the books for 6 including years that we may be a contender. Other then just being able to say hes off our roster, I dont like this move.

Could have buried Abby in GR until Nielsen's contract ran out and still saved SOME cap space. Then either buyout or 4th line duties.

Nielsen is still effective in the defensive side of the puck. Can play center and take faceoffs. Good at the shootout. Overpaid, but still more effective than Abby at this point.

I would agree, but Abby does feel more replaceable than Nielsen. Although not by a lot ha. And the cap hit isn't very much.. so that parts kind of whatever to me. I just hope this was for a specific reason rather than just a roster spot.

I would have preferred a Nielsen buyout. 6 years is a long time to have dead cap on the books... Abdelkader is also a mil cheaper, and a better fit as the 12th / 13th forward than Nielsen in my opinion...

Dude. They already share LEAGUE revenue equally among the teams. The reason some teams have more spending power than others is because they generate more revenue at the franchise level. Each and every franchise has the same opportunity for success. That's what fairness is: equal opportunity, not equality of outcome. Stop with the leftist nonsense. For the most part, teams aren't even competing at the market level. They have no direct local competition. If a team isn't doing well financially, you can't blame the other franchises for that. That's failure at the franchise level, and it should not be the responsibility of the other successful franchises to take care of them. Give each team the same rules to operate with and Let them succeed or fail on their own. The NHL would do just fine with fewer teams. The league has been around for over a century. Teams have come and gone, some relocated, some are defunct. And even without your concept of "fairness" the league has grown from 6 franchises to 32. I'd say the NHL is doing just fine the way it is.

It is a shame that there are still people out there arguing about masks. Even in 1918-20 during the spanish flu people wore masks, kids were going to school with masks a hundret years ago to protect themselves. Just wear the damn thing it´s just a mask, you don´t have to chop your arm off.

Yeah, I've been advocating for a while that one should be bought out. Just would have rathered see Nielsen bought out.

Most players Tampa want to move have value. Some have high value. Teams getting these players won't be doing it to help Tampa. They'll be doing it to make their team better. That doesn't cost Tampa assets.

Every team does have equal opportunity to spend to the cap. The owners all agreed to this cap to begin with. There are plenty of owners who could spend to the cap, but simply do not. There are also plenty of small market teams that have already proven you can spend to the cap and have success. Larger markets shoudn't have to pay for other owner's incompetence. Arizona's ownership knew about the cap before they bought in. They could have easy deemed they are unable to compete and backed out. Plenty of other cities out there that would love the chance to have a new team and spend to the cap.

I don't know. It's so hard to gauge. Under normal circumstances, I would think a team would trade (give up assets) for Johnson, but with the flat cap, and teams being under internal budgets, it's hard to see any team giving up assets to acquire him. I tend to agree. I don't think a 2nd round pick would be enough. If Johnson were a UFA, I'd have no interest in signing him to a 4 year contract worth $5M per, so to help out a divisional rival, and take him on, it would have to be well worth it for us... I agree.

Yes, I was just about to comment similarly. Johnson has 4 years left at $5M per. It's not not we'd be just taking a salary dump UFA to be. If they want someone to take that, they'd really have to sweetin the pot! But, I would help them out with one (or two) of Johnson, Palat or Kilhorn. Each one would cost a 1st or a HIGH prospect (both in Johnson's case.) Same would be with Gourde. 5 years left over $5M in cap, I need a 1st and a HIGH prospect.

All the player contracts are based on USD, so the conversion rate is never an issue.

Veleno was just presented via live feed. Which apparently he did in the nude. The club also thanked Kronwall for helping with the move.
