Well, all I can say is....crap.

If you don't agree with the way this team is being run, I recommend that you don't watch them on TV. Don't spend money on tickets. Don't spend money on jerseys. If you want to watch good hockey live, spend money on college and semi-pro games instead.

When the lockout happened, I promised myself I wouldn't spend a dime on the NHL and so far, I haven't done that. I still watch the games, but I couldn't care less about anyone who advertises for the Wings games. This year, I won't sit out from watching the Wings, thats for sure. The Wings are my team. I am disappointed in what has happened in the offseason, but I won't cash in my fan card because the team falls on hard times.

How does he replace Lidstrom and Rafalski? Those guys can't be replaced.

Rafalski is replaceable. Lidstrom, not so much.

Which is why you don't try and replace Lidstrom with one guy. You have to re-evaluate how the whole team is built, because Lids was the keystone of it. Then you make adjustments and give the team a new identity.

Since Lidstrom retired, the Wings are basically the same kind of team only with a massive hole in the blueline and with Dats, Z, and Franzen no longer in their prime.

It's not like Holland hasn't tried to get help on the blueline. We were spurned by several guys this offseason and the Suter situation is well documented. We have 5 guys in the AHL who could all play in the NHL in the next two years, granted they won't all play for us. It takes time to "give the team a new identity." You can't do that over night in the salary cap era unless you get a guy like Crosby in the draft. The identity is starting to change with Goose, Tats, Sheahan, Jurco all coming up. I'd be surprised if we didn't end up seeing one of the young Dmen play at least 35-40 games this season. The change is happening, but it just isn't going to happen overnight.

Quincey did hit the open market and no other team appeared to have interest since free agency kicked off earlier. Quincey playing 20 minutes per game is exactly the Wings problem defensively. They just made their issue a solution.

THIS

It's only 2 years!

Man, are you on drugs???

Quincey is crap, absolute crap. Did you watch any games over the last couple years? Unbelievable..

I just think we're going to have to come to the conclusion we're going to suck for a while before we get back into contention. The faster we accept that the better off we'll be.

Nothing wrong with this so long as the Wings' management would commit to it. Let's start trading some vets for picks and prospects. Go full youth movement. Also, fire Holland first.

the day started out so well too with re-signing Sheahan for less than a million. I guess Sheahan isn't smart enough yet to see through the "...we're Detroit" sales pitch...give him time..

Jesus what a nightmare.

Prediction: It'll get worse when Holland inevitably panics and trades too many good young players for a mediocre return (Myers) instead of staying put, or trading for someone who's worth it (Yandle).

Jesus what a nightmare.

Does anybody know what the f*** just happened? Seriously. Is there any explanation for this that doesn't make our team look and feel like a complete and total joke?

I hope what Holand is doing is not the same as destroying a great team. Very disappointed.

Ouch, ******* ouch...

It's a nightmare when you consider all the UFA talent this offseason. And KFQ comes back? Rofl!

Honestly though he did have a decent/good second half.

How many players have to pass on Detroit, how many times do we have to be "in the mix" and end up empty handed? Trying isn't good enough anymore. When you miss out on one big name ufa, that's one thing, then a couple years later, not having fixed the problem via trade or free agency, instead using useless plugs a la Quincey, you miss out on a whole lot of big time upgrades? disgraceful, unacceptable... #fireholland

Is there anyone that still believes that Ken Holland should continue on as the GM of this team?

Do we have to really hit rock bottom for people to wake up?

Isn't this bad enough?

Weiss didn't pass, Alfie didn't pass. Datsyuk resigned, Kronwall resigned. What do you want? We can't sign everyone. There are 29 other teams that are trying to get better just like we are. Do you want us to overpay someone just to say we signed them then to be stuck with a horrible cap hit for someone who isn't worth it 4-5 years down the road when we need to resign a bunch of our young guys?

We are building for the next 8-12 years not the next 2. People can't get that through their heads.

So the Wings told Kyle Quincey at the end of the year they were not interested in resigning him. So they can't land even the scraps off the free agent heap, so then it's like, hey let's bring back Kyle Quincey and give him a raise! If someone had told me yesterday, we'd lose out on all the free agents we were after and re-signed Kyle Quincey, wouldn't have believed it. I still feel like this is some cruel joke or something.

Yep, cause we "owe" him, since he left term on the table last year. Screw off Holland, it's a business!

Yep , and in these next two years, the future beyond would have benefitted from giving Sproul and/or Ouellet a shot instead of a terrible defenseman making too much money.

You know, it really amazes me how quickly everyone seems to just want to fire KH and blow up the ship. And because of what exactly? We re-signed a guy who played well for us in the second half and has a proven track record of being a solid 3-4 D man. So we didn't sign any big name free agents, and? Did we really want Boyle here for 3 years? No. Orpik for 5 years and $5.5m? No. Niskanen for 7 years? I didn't. Stralman for 5 years? No. The list goes on and on. Guys who are cashing in on one or two good years (besides Boyle) and using the thin market to drive up their prices. It is frankly, a joke. The worst thing the wings could have done was to sign someone like that for a massive term which locks us in, blocking the path for 1 or 2 kids when they are ready either this season or next.

Why is it that we are so quick to lambast something that we don't like, yet it takes 100 things to satisfy us? I mean, for crying out loud, we're not the Leafs. It's not like we haven't won a cup in the last 50 years. And also, it's not even like we're not competitive anymore. This team was a playoff team. Granted, the last 2 years have been touch and go, but 2 years ago we took the cup champs to 7 and had them on the ropes. In that 2012-13 roster, there were 26 players who were part of this seasons roster. 26!!!!!!!! And this season, most were injured, and yet somehow, due to some strong play of guys who will form the future of this team, we made it in.

There is, quite clearly, a rebuild in progress at the moment. And it amazes me how people can't seem to get excited about the future prospects of Dekeyser, Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Jurco, Sproul, Marchenko, Ouellet, Mantha, Mrazek. Combined with a healthy D and Z and the other GOOD pieces we have on this team. So what's changed? Why has everyone become so despondent, when really, I think our time is coming right around the corner. Maybe not this year, but the year after for sure. If our kids continue trending upwards, we'll be right up there. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but to ignore the obvious positives that are emanating from this teams future and insist on throwing everything out in the trash just because we struck out on 1 day of the year is, in my eyes, nuts.

Who says Ouellet won't get a shot to play? There is still one open spot. They even started Ouellet in the playoffs instead of Kindl. Sproul isn't ready. It wouldn't be fair to him to bring him up just to see him struggle and have the fans jump all over him like they do Smith.
