    More antics from the KHL

I am a big fan of fighting as you all know. However, these North American goons that went to Vityaz are a ******* disgrace to their professions and I've had enough of their s***. An enforcer's job is to protect his teammates and go after players that need to be put in their place. NOT to pick on guys for no reason, especially players who are not fighters and can't defend themselves. It's just bully tactics which have no purpose to them. This is the worst kind of spotpicking BS I've ever seen and it's been going on for years now. Have these players forgotten what the code is? Gratton, Verot, Sugden, that retard Mirasty, Yablonski, Brennan, etc. These guys are all on my permanent hate list for their behavior the last couple of seasons. Are they too dickless to play in North America anymore, so they have to go to Russia to fight skilled players? And how about their coach Andrei Nazarov. The big Russian ***** who always got his ass kicked in the NHL, and now he's overcompensating for it by instructing his goons to pick on non-fighters for no reason. What an *******. The weird thing about Vityaz is their GM, none other than Alexei Zhamnov. He was a skilled player his whole career, so I'm surprised he's allowing this garbage. Sorry for the language.

Don't forget Philly and Pittsburgh. If the Wings move to the East there's going to be plenty of options for teams to hate.

    WTF is Babs thinking?!?!

Im sure Im not the only one that has been sick watching the 2nd PP line that has been put together. 4 forwards 1 D man (Kronner) all set up in an umbrella formation like this -) . They have set it so that Kron has to run both points and hope that Happy can hit a point if something gets away. The idea is iffy at best with how teams are running their kill. The way that line is performing, they are one quick step from allowing short handed break aways. I understand they are experimenting but our traditional system at the very least keeps the puck in the offensive zone more at the expense of having another forward. Dunno if this is a hair brain idea from one of the new coaches or a solution to a lack of Raffy at the point but they need to nip this in the bud and try to implement a more polished version of their traditional PP as opposed to throwing the whole book out. I do like seeing some new plays that have been pretty effective in regular play and Ill say that it does make it fun to watch when you dont know what they are going to do when the puck is brought in over the blue line (weird that watching it enough you can almost call the guy that is going to get the pass based on where guys are standing before it even happens). Maybe they figured out that teams have watched enough film but I say tweek it dont start over as it looks like a bunch of blind guys playing with a hand tied behind their back.

You truly believe that the medical community has the concussion thing down-pat? That there is nothing left to learn? That we went from smelling-salts to experts in 10 years? I am no doctor, but based on what I've read, nothing could be further from the truth, especially with respect to long-term impact. If doctors did know everything, I'd doubt they'd be collecting brains. The 15 minute time-outs are indeed a result of the fact that we are so UNCERTAIN about head-injuries. If you are uncertain about something, the only logical recourse is to take every precaution. Other than the above, I think you make some good points. I, too, have thought about boxing, wrestling and the like, where concussions are pretty much the goal. But I think it just goes back to branding. No sane human wants their child to turn out like Mike Tyson. I personally hope that children don't idolize UFC champs. Again, if one day, Crosby does something that the media even suggests is weakly connected with his then-history of head-injuries, that will be a black day for the game of hockey. The NHL's success has much to do with its reputation. As business entities, I don't think comparing NHL and NFL is apples to oranges. Reputation and 'friendliess' of the game go a long way. I don't know, I'm personally all for being as cautious as possible with respect to the brain. Other injuries, I agree, part of the game. But, moreso than any other organ, your brain is who you are. That is indeed your essence. You look at players like Igor Grigorenko, who broke his legs, and can't play on the level he wants because of it. But, I would argue he is still Igor Grigorenko. Someone like Savard, who can't even stand to be in the sun, I'd argue he's a changed man to some degree. That's f***ed up.

Did you hear the Pens broadcast with Errey making excuses right and left for Letang? I know some people think Ken and Mickey are homers, but even they'll call a spade a spade. On the Pens' broadcasts, though...they can do no wrong.

Just saw the highlights of the Bruins/Canes game, and wow. I love tough hockey, and fighting, but f*** Boston. Officially the "tough guys" of hockey, hitting Jeff Skinner from behind and then Marchand hitting him in the face with a linesman in the way, Chara trying to intimidate Cam Ward, yikes. If we do move to the East, i'll already have a most hated team.

    2011 MLB Season Thread

You can go back and read this thread for my thoughts on Inge (I agree with you). The Tigers certainly have areas to address, but I can worry about that all winter. I'm still content with enjoying the run the Tigers gave us for now.

    Thoughts on Ericsson?

I find it kind of funny that he doesn't have better offensive instincts/capabilities considering he was drafted as an offense men

    Thoughts on Ericsson?

Ericsson won't end up in that spot next season unless he shows this season he deserves it. Kindl looks like more of a top-four defenseman than Ericsson has shown he can be. But if neither Kindl nor Ericsson grab that spot and take it by force, we'll see a new face on the blueline in the top four - unless we see all of Lidstrom, Kronwall, and Stuart sign new deals. Carle would be a nice replacement for Stuart. Coburn is also available. Although I think if Stuart is getting money hungry, I might look into trading him for Meszaros because Philly will (will they?) want to try and keep Carle and Coburn; Meszaros would be a solid replacement for Stuart that would cost less than the other two likely will.

    WTF is Babs thinking?!?!

Ericsson needs to learn how to use his shot in a real game, and how to make an accurate pass at game speed. He has the physical tools right now to be a pretty good point man if he can learn how to put it together; he has not been able to do so in several years of development. At his age, you don't "develop" anymore. Either he'll learn or he won't.

It would roll out like so: Z/Dats/Flip Franzen/Hudler/Cleary Abdelkader/Helm/Bertuzzi Holmstrom/Emmerton/Eaves

    Thoughts on Ericsson?

After 3 years with the Griffins and 3 with the Wings, my thought is that we shouldn't still be talking about him improving! He should be there already! My vote is that we keep Kindl up, send Ericsson down.

Nice bit on Wings in SI Power Rankings

I feel lucky for it too; us fans are truly fortunate to have had this team to cheer for over the last two decades. And so it bothers me when others do not feel similarly, and instead choose to vociferously whine and catastrophize at every minor negative the team faces.

Bad suspension, shouldn't have been anything more than a 2 min penalty and perhaps a fine, but this is excessive
