    freeredwings.tv stops streaming NHL games

Hello fellow Red Wings fans. Before the 2011-2012 NHL season started, I decided to register the domain freeredwings.tv and operate a site providing live streams of Detroit Red Wings games. Yesterday, I received a cease and desist email from an NHL attorney ordering me to stop any and all unauthorized streaming of NHL copyrighted works. With the recent arrest of a Comstock Park, MI man for copyright infringement, I have made the difficult and unfortunate decision to stop streaming NHL games. I am expecting my first child in August and I cannot get arrested, especially over something like this. I would like to thank the letsgowings community for always linking to the site in the GDT and being grateful and appreciative fans. I hope you enjoyed what I was able to provide. I would have loved to continue providing the service, but you can thank the NHL for ruining the party.

They've played each other three times already this season! It may be important to (the generally condescending) Vancouver fans. Just being honest when saying I don't think most Wings fans don't see it as that big of a deal. It's one game in the season. That's not smug. The Wings haven't made it out of the second round in a couple years now. It's not that they dont' have anything to prove. It's just that they have to beat whoever is in front of them, whether it's the Preds, Nucks, Sharks... whoever. Honestly a Sharks game is a bigger deal because they are the team that's eliminated the Wings two years running now. As for being popular to crap on Vancouver, the players and fans bring that on themselves. The Canucks used to be one of my favorite teams in the early to mid 90s. My recent disdain for them comes comes from personal experience in real life at games combined with the idiots over at hfboards. Last year they basically made that place intolerable. And at games they made Philly fans look good natured. As for the actual team, they still have some players I like, but I can't get past all the diving that team does. The Sharks Nucks series was ridiculous, especially compared to Boston Tampa. Add to it garbage like finger biting, and they're just not a team I want to see win. But hey if you want to ignore the prior three games this season and build this one up to be something it's not, so be it.

    Travis Moen

All these people calling Moen just a grinder and that he wouldnt improve this team at all are clearly just the homers who dont watch anything except the wings and think every prospect is going to be the next Datsyuk/Lidstrom. People do realize hes the best PKer on the leagues best PK right? And that Detroit has a pretty terrible penalty kill. He was also part of the best shut down defensive line since the grindline that was huge fora cup win in anaheim. On top of that he plays a physical game that could only help come playoff time. Do peoplle erally want to see a lineup with Emmerton and Mursak in come playoff time? The wings have always won cups with 4 lines they can roll and theyve been barely rolling the fourth line in the regular season this year, so what does that say about plaoyffs?

To everybody who is curious about the intent of this sentence: I am definitely not oblivious to the copyright laws and this isn't the first cease and desist letter I have received - not even the first from the NHL. I knew about the SOPA and PIPA resolutions months before they ever got to be big news and protested across the web. I knew before I started the site that it was both illegal / unauthorized copyright infringement and its days were numbered. I streamed nearly all of last season's games on a daily basis on a private justin.tv stream that I passworded and provided to about 100 fans. I have recorded games and uploaded them to torrent sites. I was not "blaming" the NHL like I was a victim or upset or anything like that. My intent for the comment was directed at any viewers of the site who might get upset. If they want somebody to be upset at, don't look at me. I don't blame the NHL for protecting their copyrighted works , but I also don't always trust everybody on the internet to think rationally. Just trying to avoid people getting upset at me, that's all. I hope everybody that used my site is able to find alternative streams for Red Wings games. With a little searching, they're not difficult to find

Canucks Vs Detroit in Motor City

We didn't offer these opinions unsolicited - they were asked for by a Nucks fan who insists this is a touchstone game. Sorry, but as a hockey fan who saw 30 longer ago than I care to admit, no one outside of Canada and under God only knows what age considers Vancouver an NHL "flagship." And no one has "dumped on" Vancouver in this thread any more than (and quite a bit less than) I've seen Nucks fans do in seasons past; we just don't consider this a game any more important than most. And we've lost regular season series to many whom we have subsequently dismissed from the playoffs. Outside of a divisional rival, regular season series in a good season don't mean a whole lot. Detroit hasn't had an actual riot since 1968 and I defy you to find any real evidence outside of accusations from non-local media to prove otherwise, yet it's a perpetual joke in North America. Anyone who does have an actual riot is going to hear about it repeatedly from Detroiters. Might as well learn to live with it - it's not going away any time soon. And it's not luck the Wings have been dominant - it's by the grace of Mike Ilitch and the genius of Jim Devellano. We Michiganders must be right with Jesus to be so blessed. So I'm sorry if we don't hold the Nucks in the same esteem you do, but I am hard pressed to think of any reason thus far why we should.

As requested. Credit to kook_10, this was brilliant! Original post (go give him a "+", not me. It's his work).

It probably happened because it's so obvious it didn't need to be mentioned. OP isn't naive I'm sure. No need for "Duh, what did you expect" (paraphrase)or other remarks. thanking him for his time and efforts was really all that needed to be said.

I don't see it as big as what most Canuck fans think it is. I would rather not have Detroit lose either of these next two games against Chicago and Vancouver, but reality says we will fall to one of them or atleast drop a game in the near future. To think the Wings can continue their outstanding streak at home for the remainder of the season with majority games being played at home is unrealistic. To think Thursday's game is anything more than a regular season game, well you'd have to be a Vancouver fan.

Is it just me, or does the style of writing here remind anyone else of those emails that you'll get randomly from someone in 'another country' giving you a 'lucrative' offer? Something like - 'if only you would give them you bank account information, they would send this sum of money to you so you can help them out of their terrible situation and THEN, of course, you get to keep some of the money...' Anyway, it is entirely possible that the Sharks will win. Either way, though, if anyone is laughing at the Red Wings... they need to take a closer look at the standings and then promptly shut their mouths.

Thanks for clearing it up for us that the streak is going to end sometime. I'm pretty sure opponents have been trying for over three months to beat the Red Wings at JLA to no avail. Best of luck (not really) to your diving team tomorrow.

You can end the streak - we'll settle for our playoff success. And by the way, it's impossible to come to a Wings board and be a "fellow" Sharks fan.

At 26, I doubt he's past his prime. But it seems like he has a terrible attitude and work ethic, especially for a captain. From the outside it looks like when things stop coming easily to him, he either stops caring or stops working hard or both. It must be frustrating to be a Caps fan and have to watch two incredibly talented players like Ovie and Semin sulking and screwing around instead of manning up. It's like Fedorov on his bad nights, times two.

Why isn't he ripping the beloved Habs, who are tied with us for lowest in the NHL in the fighting category? Guys like this are what make guys like me look bad. Its not the amount of fighting majors that counts. More fights does not equal more Stanley Cups automatically. While I do think a minor move or two to get us a little grittier would help us in the long run, I don't think acquiring Steve MacIntyre is gonna do us much good in the postseason. Personally, I think he is sick of hearing about 1)European players altogether and 2)American NHL teams. If Don Cherry was running the league, it would look like this: Atlantic Division: Halifax Fredericton Charlottetown Prince Edward Island Newfoundland Southeast Division: Toronto Ottawa Montreal Mississauga Quebec City Northeast Division: Iqaluit Amherst New Glasgow Cambridge Bay Rankin Inlet Central Division: Winnipeg Thunder Bay Regina Saskatoon Nanavut Southwest Division: Vancouver Calgary Edmonton Victoria Medicine Hat Northwest Divsion: Whitehorse Northwest Territories Yellowknife Queen Elizabeth Islands Banks Island And no European or American players allowed. Because that is the spirit of hockey. Now, I don't like seeing NHL teams fail on Long Island either, but he acts as if Canada invented and trademarked hockey, and nobody else can even think about liking it, or its copyright infringement. He makes decent points here and there, but then completely goes off road with some other close minded s***. In conclusion, I think a little added grit will help us a lot in the playoffs, but not a goon. End rant.

If I had GameCenter Live I wouldn't get close to 82 regular season Wings games a year. Without cable, I wouldn't be able to watch any of the CBJ-Wings games or any of the games on NBCSN. IMO the NHL would gain a lot of subscribers if the blackout restrictions were lifted- how many people would choose to watch via the internet over cable for those games? This problem is furthered during the playoffs, when most games after the first round are on national tv. I don't mind paying the NHL for full access to Wings games. Unfortunately, the NHL does not provide that option for users without cable.

It's too bad that this is what enforcer debates have been reduced to: ripping the posters who oppose your viewpoints instead of actually entering reasonable discourse. On both sides.
