I think this post is more about a players make-up and their responsively rather than "Who is a better hockey player" you see this time and again with athletes. A good fit with the team, the coach, management Ect all play a factor in how a player responds. It's not unusual for a player to be amazing on one team and then underperform for another. Weiss, Flip...but others like Heatly, Yashin, Gonchar, Nash, Lupul..........the list is endless. I think Weiss will come around. He's too good of a hockey player not to BUT some players simply play better and respond better depending on the environment. Looks at Hudler...it was pretty clear that Babcock was not fond of him. He was critized for his poor defensive play but in Calgary, he has been given the first line and he is thriving. I don't think he did well being scrutinized, whether it was valid or not...the same goes with Flip. Some players need to be challenged, attacked and then excel under a hard nose approach. Others need to be coddled and reassured. Babcock isn't that guy and although he is a good coach, I imagine he is very demanding and vocal about whatbhe likes and what he doesn't. Either way, we had a good player in Flip who needed a change of scenery and he's doing well. I always liked him here and I wish him well. I hope same for Weiss and that he will find his rhythm and become what the organization saw in him. Just my 2 cents!

Posts like this remind me how old I am. I actually remember Shanny in his prime. He was everything you could ask from a player. He hit a lot, fought, had a good speed, nice dangles, good vision and in general was a player any opposing team was afraid in many different ways. There were so few guys like him since then and actually only Bert in his prime is comparable (perhaps, Getzlaf of 2008-2010, Neely as well but that was earlier). If Mantha could be half of a player Shanny was that would be a steal.

I'll be concerned if he's still not successful late in the season. We have him committed for over 400 games. Let's not burn him at the stake after 16. Jurco, Sheahan, Ferraro are not close to being a second line center. Alfredsson? Yeah who wants a proven top line right handed shooting forward completely for free with no risk on a discount. How silly of us.

I hope they tank the rest of the season and for some unknown reason trade Simmonds to the Wings.

We will never win a cup with Smith, Quincey getting top minutes. (See smith vs blackhawks last postseason). A trade must be made. The question is will kenny do it?

Kinda wish Babs and Kenny would take a page from from the San Antonio Spurs and Popovich and rest your players for the playoffs during the season. Specifically im speaking about Cleary. He is a beast come playoffs even when hes injured, so why not spare his knees and the team his regular season limited contributions so he can be healthy comw playoffs. Play him like a goalkeeper, never back to back or 1 game on 2 games off.

I'd be surprised to find out that any current star who came out of the Canadian junior leagues did NOT produce through the roof. In other words, no.

The reason I ask is because I believe the CHL/AHL transfer agreement is in bad need of revision because it causes situations like this. Mantha would be, in my mind, better served playing in the AHL where he can play against better talent and adjust to a game against adults with more of an NHL pace.

I wouldn't call Tyutin's comments awful, but yeah definitely strong. First off he's biased. Varlamov is his friend, so he's obviously going to defend him. Second, he's foreign (I know he's spent a lot of time here), this isn't his home country or the laws he grew up with, so he may not appreciate or understand them like some of us do. That being said, he's not entirely wrong. The system has been abused by SOME women. No system is perfect. All-in-all, Tyutin took a pretty extreme stance and probably should have just kept his mouth shut. The courts will figure this out and we'll see if Varly is truly at fault in due time.

Cleary HAD offensive talent.

Makes me wonder how long it will take for Babs to realize exactly how useless Cleary is this season.

Cleary is worthless. Because he's now incapable of grinding, he can't even play a proper 4th-line role anymore.

So far this season? I'm going to go with a healthy Bert.

?? We need Nyquist!! On two other notes, Jurco is looking good in the AHL as well and when Cleary going to go on "LTIR" like Sammy and Mule have when consistently playing like s***.

Someone should have stepped in. Third man in penalty would have evened out the instigator penalty, but no loss there. Not like it was a tight game and the loss of a PP would matter. Step in and beat the poo out of him. Keep your goalie safe.
