Hull "Avery doesn't get to talk to Sakic"

Cool story. Joe Sakic 100% deserved that kind of respect. I hated the mid-90s Avs with all my heart, but their captain was the big exception. Nothing but respect (and fear, because he was always clutch against us) for him. An incredible, classy player.

Ok, so I'm gonna quote myself because now I feel like bitching about this. So in the link above, Kypreos refers to Kronner as "not a number 1." So are you telling me that he truly believes there are *30* defensemen in this league right now that are better?! I don't get this not a number 1 bulls***! He is no Lidstrom. NO ONE CURRENTLY PLAYING IS. There are maybe 10-12 defensemen that you could justifiably rank above Kronner. ???????????? Then how is he not number 1 material? There are 30 teams! Do the other 29 all have better #1s than the Wings? Yeah, didn't think so. SMH

A lot of negativities(for a reason) are discussing on the forum lately, but what about this guy? Hitting, blocking, playing responsible for 20+ minutes every game and still manage to have 11 points in 12 games on a team with the scoring issues. Well done Nick Junior, your mentor #5 must be proud of you.

Just a great read I can't stand the Avalanche but a lot of respect goes to Sakic, the guy lead by example and was a class act.

I hope the misconception that he isn't a number 1 defensman has faded. He's quietly been leading this team on defense and is among the top defensman statistically league-wide. Edit: he has also turned blocking shots into an art-form, which I think is by far the most overlooked aspect of his game.

    The Dan Cleary Hate Zone

[quote name="Opie" post="2460178" timestamp="13860 This is the same Dan Cleary that was one of the top point getters last post season! To borrow a financial term for cleary's playoffs it was the ole "dead cat bounce" Eaves, Tootoo, Glendening. There's 3.

Kronwall is currently my favorite Red Wing defender and favorite NHL defender. I know he'll rediscover his Kronwalling ways and get us excited again when he crushes an opponent with a clean, bone breaking hit. Hes a game changer, a difference maker, and I appreciate Kronwall for all hes worth to this team. He's made the absence of Lidstrom a lot less painful. Thanks Kronwall for everything you do.

What does our record have to do with cleary's awful play? We may be in a good position in the standings, but cleary has been really bad. If anything, you're point proves we should waive cleary once Pavs and Bert come back. If we were in last, there would be no good reason to dump cleary. As it is now, if someone, who can score, was in cleary's place, the wings may have won a few more games.

    Darren McCarty Book Excerpts

I'm still in love. For those who don't understand us fight slappies (not talking about anyone in particular, just kind of a round-up of anti-fighting sentiments), this is what I love. Mac was a team player. He was a brother. Yes, he was the black sheep of the family, so to speak, but he was the protective brother. That's why we love the fighters. They're heart and soul. They'll do anything for those who are "theirs". It's not about how many fights they can have or even how many they win, it's that they see a need to stand up and protect those they love. Yeah, love. In a big-brother, family, give-my-balls-for-you kind of love. They're not just the police, although that analogy is as good as any. They're emotionally invested in the well-being of their teammates. When someone like that has your back, you're never alone. Mental note to self: Get this book.

I'm always down for a Kronner love fest. He never asked to be a #1, but he has stepped up the best he can and his game has grown because of it. He busts his ass night in and night out, and for the most part he has been nothing but solid and reliable. To me he embodies what it means to be a Red Wing--humble, classy, and hardworking.

Actually, that part doesn't surprise me at all. It really only takes a couple good thumps to the kidneys. (I know this from my adventures with kidney stones, lolz.) But they were definitely tough SOBs. You don't want to be in any kind of skirmish with Joey Kocur.

lol Fair enough. Regardless I think we're all excited for what the future holds.

For a team that's struggled a bit 5-on-5, and for a guy that matches up vs top lines night in and night out, that +12 rating is impressive. He's sniffing Norris finalist type numbers right now.

Kronner was 2nd star of the week on NHL.com for the week ending 12/1. LGK!

You're right, he didn't. It sure wasn't for lack of trying on Weber's part. We also don't forget particularly dirty plays. How's that?

rid ourselves of Franzen, Q, Sammy, Cleary and Bert. Plenty of room for our ripened kids and a huge UFA signing! Preferably one that can score 40-50 goals! I wouldn't be beyond inquiring into Ovi's availability!

I saw Hudon on the roster and thought our 5th round pick from 2011 had really blossomed! Then I realized I had forgotten our guy was named Phillipe! I had heard some say that Paterson was really playing the best going into last year but that Subban got the minutes because of name recognition.

He actually has a nmc but that's beside the point. Weiss will be just fine you can count on that. He has way too much skill to go on like this for too long. He will start playing very well soon enough and everyone can eat crow then. I liked the Weiss signing when it happened and still do, if we traded every player away that underperformed at first then Zetterberg would have been gone in 2011-2012 and countless others.

Welcome to the forum. You're new here so I'll explain. Most people here NEVER forget dirty plays that cause injury to any of our Red Wings.

Cleary will bring it in the playoffs like he always does. He went from being pretty much useless last regular season to being one of our most effective forwards in the playoffs. Playing less minutes will help with his diminishing skill level but the heart and drive is always there. Like a Dallas Drake. Sammy is a very good 4th liner with lots of playoff experience. Expensive yes but he's not blocking a better player from playing. He has a snarl, big body and can bury his opportunities. I feel bad for Weiss but with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Helm and even Andersson looking better than him he has no place on this team. Datsyuk and zetterberg should be split. Getting him off the books and freeing up that salary and the burden of having him for 4 more years will do wonders in the offseason. If we can get a rental D man while doing that even better.
