    Kris Letang Suffers Stroke

I literally JUST learned about strokes in my neuro class (also concussions but that's for another thread)... Exam is on Monday! Anyway, strokes are essentially when certain parts of the brain don't get enough blood flow and those cells which are affected die. Most people generally associate strokes with losing muscle movement/sensation on half the body and/or disruption in speech, and that usually occurs when a particular artery (called the middle cerebral artery) becomes compromised. But strokes can exhibit themselves in many different ways, depending on what part of the brain is affected. In Letang's case, having a patent foramen ovale introduces irregular blood flow mechanics and may allow a clot to form and bypass the lungs. The article mentions dizziness as one of his symptoms which is common with strokes that occur from occlusion or hemmorhage to the vertebrobasillar artery. This artery supplies the brainstem, cerebellum and visual cortex, so it would seem that the clot that formed (assuming that's even what happened) traveled to the back of the brain/brainstem where motor coordination, vision, and a few other things are regulated, and impeded blood flow to these areas. I can't speak for Letang's case specifically, but it is common to also experience double vision, difficulty swallowing, as well as disequilibrium and vertigo for vertebrobasillar artery strokes (just in case any of you experience one in the future you know now what to look for). The article mentioned that he would be back on the ice though, so that's certainly good news. Strokes are serious business.

The hole is between the two atria - not a hole leading into the thorax like it sounds. It is normal in everyone to have a hole called the foramen ovale - which shunts blood past the lungs due to blood being oxygenated by the mother while in the womb - its actually quite common that this does not fully close (into a fossa ovalis) in people after birth - but it is pretty uncommon that this would not be found in a high performance athlete by now.

Nobody mentioning Chris Stewart? I'd take him every day of the week.

This. Last game I went to at the Forum, it was about 60/40 Wings fans, the Let's Go Red Wings chants drowned out whatever the Bolts fans were trying to chant

Same here the guy is rugged and a good ol' Michigan boy on top of that he shouldn't cost too much

Shoulder pads actually restrict your range of motion too much to shoot properly. You could otherwise see he's got a bit of b-ball skills. Lots more than those b-ballers have hockey skills, I'd wager.

    'Detroit's Dark Horse Potential'

While I get the premise of the article I simply don't think you can call a franchise that has made 22 consecutive playoff appearances a dark horse.

Ah Matt Greene. He's like a bigger, RH shooting Mark Stuart. Also he's from Michigan....I like it.

I'm going to the game as well. One of the suppliers at my dads job is meeting us there with tickets. Not sure where the seats are. I know all food/beer is included though.

This is a photoshop I did for The Xym but deemed it appropriate for this thread. I'm loving seeing him grow more confident and produce, here's to more years with Nyquist as one of our top Wingmen.

I had to give up hockey at a young age because of heart-related health issues. I'd always known there was something wrong with me health-wise, but it wasn't until I'd started really pushing my body to its limits that the true problem reared its very ugly head. Now that I'm older, I appreciate that it was probably a major blessing. By bringing out this issue I didn't even know I had, hockey might have saved my life in the long run. And this was before the Fischer incident and everything that's followed, all of which makes me really worry about high-level athletes. You could be in "top shape" and yet you might also be a ticking time bomb, and without even knowing. It's scary. It puts things in perspective. Sorry, that all probably seems narcisstic. Just felt like sharing.

Yeah I've had a very minor stroke. Didn't screw me up too much. It happens. They're more common than people think. Many go undiagnosed. Glad to here he's getting treatment.

Can you imagine Mickey during the game saying "the rise n grind line scores again ". Or "the Rise and grind Line really stuck it to the goalie"

    Visiting Tampa Bay Times Forum--Tips?

If you decide to go, I'll see you there, as will about 10,000 other Wings fans, many of whom I'm sure lurk about these boards. 1) I've been to several games at the Forum, you heard correctly, there are no bad seats. I'm too cheap to try to get lower-bowl seats, but every section I've sat in at the terrace level has had great sight lines. 2) They check tickets before you can go down the steps for the lower bowl, so unless your tickets are in the 100's I'd guess probably no ice level for warmups. 3) Expect to pay about $10, plenty of places to park within 15 minutes walking distance from the arena, well lit streets with plenty of police presence, locals are pretty friendly towards visiting fans, never had a single issue. 4) Don't know, but closest hotels are Marriott Waterside, Embassy Suites Downtown Convention Center, and Westin Harbor Island, probably one of them. 5) The Channel District has lots of decent restaurants, can't speak to the bars/nightlife since I don't drink, but check out the these links for more info Hope to see you (and a healthier Red Wings lineup) there, I'm in section 322, I'll be wearing my black Wings sweater, my very pregnant wife will be wearing a red Yzerman sweater, and my son will be wearing the road white

    Lines Thread

Z-dat-abby Alfie-weiss-franzina Nyquist-anderson-tatar Miller-helm-eaves Emmerton goes in if a center is hurt Bert fills in for first winger hurt Kronwall Ericsson Smith dekeyser Kind Quincey Howard. I think this makes us the most complete we can possibly be. You keep Abby on top line to do his thing. And it gives us three legit scoring lines(still lack of size ). I like Anderson third and helm 4th A LOT MORE. Anderson will help out more offensively IMO. And with helms back a little less ice time might be good. It also gives you miller And helm all ready together for some PKs as well.
