'District Detroit': Red Wings' New Arena Details Released
kipwinger and 2 others reacted to DickieDunn for a post in a topic
I saw what the Van Andel and accompanying restaurants did to Grand Rapids. It went from a ghost town downtown after 6:00 to being busy most of the time. That was just an arena and a couple refurbished buildings turned into retail and restaurant space. Condos, other restaurants and bars, etc. came along on their own as more people started showing up. Hopefully this new district does the same for Detroit. -

Why would any GM give up anything for Kindl and his contract when a guy like Del Zotto is available for free and on a lesser contract. -
1 pointJames Mirtle @mirtle 1m Was told early in weekend that Leafs would settle in $3.25-million range. Same source said Franson would then be dealt, so we'll see.
-
1 pointI was just looking at this project on a map. It's not a stretch to say they're literally rebuilding an entire portion of the city. The footprint on it is absolutely massive. Anybody who thinks this is just another arena is nuts.

2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

It is unbelievable how the Aves are treating O'Reilly. I get that they're trying to sign him to the best deal they possibly can, but you don't cheap out on a player like this. O'Reilly is coming off a career year and is an unbelievable two-way player that is only 23 years old. If they're not careful things will go sour and they will lose him for little to nothing. Franson is a player I really wanted 4 years ago when he was in Nashville, and nothing much has changed since then. I would love to get Franson on this team if the price was right. He is a solid all around defenseman with a booming shot that would be a massive boost to our power-play. I would give up Kindl and Ouellet plus a mid round pick in a heart beat for Cody Franson. Regarding Seabrook. Zero percent chance we would get him and I doubt I'd be willing to give up what it would take to get him. You'd be talking Nyquist and / or Jurco, Sproul and / or Ouellet, plus picks... No thanks! -
1 pointAccording to @THNKenCampbell, Ryan O'Reilly asking for $6.75 million in arbitration. Avs offering $5.525 million. One year award. $5.525 Avs offering O'Reilly represents 15% pay cut from '13-14 salary of $6.5 million, maximum pay cut allowed under CBA. Adam Proteau @Proteautype 3m Ryan O'Reilly scored nearly 30 goals last season, and the Avs are offering him the maximum pay cut allowed under the CBA? #gong

I'd rather not take on Bickell, but Seabrook is exactly what our blueline needs. That is a trade where I would be willing to use Tatar as a centrepiece. -

Kindl is a goner. He was sat in a crucial final playoff game because he was terrible, for an UNTRIED PROSPECT. And the prospect played better than Kindl. They'll waive him and lose him for nothing because no one wants him. Or he will bolt to the KHL. If I were a betting man I'd say he's not in their plans for the future. And we have lost players for nothing. Quite a few times, so it wouldn't surprise me to lose him for nothing. -

I lived north of Baltimore when the Orioles built Camden Yards and it revitalized the Inner Harbor and made it a place to be....hopefully this arena is able to do the same thing for the city of Detroit. -

The answer is, lose the shootout, keep the tie but award no points. Points only to winning teams, teams would fight hard to win. No gimmicks. -

So what is wrong with the Joe in your opinion? I may have a slightly biased sentiment in the fact that obviously I'm a Wings fan and I saw my first hockey game there, but there isn't much I can say I don't like about it. The sightlines are way better than the other NHL rinks i've seen games at (ACC and Centre Bell), the standing room is the best in the league, the concourse and the general place has this old school atmosphere that makes me get really amped up for the game, and I don't know if i'm the only one, but I really really love walking up those steps before you enter the building. Yes it's crowded as hell in the concourses and bathrooms, it's old, it doesn't look that aesthetically pleasing from the outside for some, the seats are worn, but frankly, I couldn't care less. I'd take a building like the Joe that has a million times more character than a septic, cold brand spanking new rink anyway. Now, that's not to say that the new building will be like all the other ones that have been built. And after seeing and reading about the plans today, I'm definitely excited. But I will definitely miss being right on top of the action for sure. -
1 pointNovi is crowded as hell already. It doesn't have the infrastructure to add a project of this magnitude. Detroit does. Plus, we've seen with the Silverdome and the Palace, that suburban arena/stadium entertainment districts are not sustainable. There's next-to-nothing by the Palace. The points of this project are to keep the team downtown (Ilitch wouldn't have it any other way) and to help revive the city of Detroit.

Ya I can't believe how stupid soccer is. I mean why do All the rules have to make sense? Just look at that smart sport like hockey, 2 points for a regulation win, but somehow it becomes 3 points if it's in overtime!! -

Then Kindl goes to a couple teams in the west and improves greatly - then Holland desperately trades a 1st round pick at the trade deadline for him and then Kindl stinks up the joint here again and gets re-signed for 4.25mill. -

They showed a clip of it during the Wings vs. Hawks game the next day on NBC. -
1 pointThat Quincey was re-signed at all is bad. That he was given a raise, when seemingly no other team was interested in his services, is nuts. Not Orpik bad, but not exactly a stroke of genius.

Thankfully Holland will have no input in building the arena or it would come out looking like a pizza hut.Im not thrilled about this because 2 years ago i was married on the ice in Joe Louis. Its going to be sad if they tear it down and we cant go back to where we were married. -

Babcock Interview on 105.1 this morning
Motown4013 reacted to LeftWinger for a post in a topic
...after a few weeks of thinking about it, and after hearing some interviews, if the UFA's don't want to come here, f*** em! If they don't want to be coached (like Babs said) and want to go somewhere where the team bows down to them, f*** em! (I still hate the #KFQ signing, but can kinda, sorta understand the Cleary....kinda.) I say, this team will conquer, this team will rise, and if they don't then they will again! Get Babs signed, get these kids bridged in, lets remake this Dynasty core, Lets Go Wings! -

Mike Green to Wings?
frankgrimes reacted to poel for a post in a topic
As much as I like Holland because what he's done for the Franchise...i have to agree at this point. He made a lot of mistakes over the last years. He's not willing to take risks. Pav and Z will not play forever. He absolutely missed the opportunity to give the youth a chance and add the missing pieces to form a team that can make a push for the cup... Franchise players are not cheap and they're hard to get. Big trades are always a risk. To trust young players by giving them fixed roster spots is also a risk. But just by resigning and overpaying your useless veterans, you probably won't be able to win anything... -
1 pointDon't worry Kenny's got a firm grip on the wheel.

Confused on the direction of this team going forward
LasVegasRocks reacted to Euro_Twins for a post in a topic
Filppula was offered roughly the same contract he signed with tampa but for 7 years, he turned it down, went to free agency, circled back to the wings but they had already used up their cap space. Hossa was offered the same contract they gave Franzen, he turned it down so they went with plan b and signed Franzen.
