Does Kenny Hate Mickey?
matt198913 and 4 others reacted to rick zombo for a post in a topic
That happened because there was a long stretch of action with no whistles. I took it more as a comment about how Ken was so busy calling the play-by-play that there was no room for Mickey to get a comment in. -

I took it as more Kenny joking around because there was such a long period with no whistles. Or maybe Mickey wanted to say chime in and something but couldn't because of the ongoing action and Kenny knew that (after all, they can see each other and their body language whereas we only have their voices to go off of). Anyway I don't think there's any animosity between them because they typically have excellent chemistry and often joke around. I want to say that Kenny and Mickey celebrated Thanksgiving or Christmas or something recently, but I might be misremembering. I also love all that Mickey has to offer as a color commentator. He is an entertaining individual, not the cookie-cutter type of boring, safe personality that you see so often in sports. The guy is passionate, and what I love the most about him is that he comes off as a fan of the game of hockey moreso than a fan of the Red Wings. Sure he loves the Wings, and it's his job to pass out praise to our team, but he doesn't shy away from passing out praise to players or coaches from other teams, hates weak penalties regardless of who gets the power play, and hates dangerous plays and dives regardless of who's doing them. It's good to have that kind of voice on tv, I think, instead of the mindless homer who puts his team above all others regardless of the situation as well as the game of hockey itself. -

I adore Mickey. I hope he does Wings broadcasts until he's 100. It will be a sad day for me when Mickey decides to hand over the microphone to someone else. Whenever there is a Wings game, I find a source for FSD, specifically so I can listen to Mick and Ken call the game. -

It's amazing how people just come in here and assume he's some kind of drunk. I hope I'm listening to Ken and Mick for many more years. -

Getzlaf's a jackass. I watched that game. The slash he calls Ovie out on was DEFINITELY a slash, right on his hands, and Ovie didn't react much at all. He shook his hand, and pulled his glove off to look at it, but that's normal. He didn't throw his hand up, or act like he'd been chopped down. Then again, we are talking about the guy who did this when he was losing to Detroit so maybe Ovie's on to something. -

Same. Rob Ray is garbage whenever I watch Sabres games. Mick and Ken will leave huge shoes to fill one day. I vote Murph and Holmstrom as their replacements -

I've listened to Redmond since I was 5 years old and started watching Wings games, so I'll take the guy no matter how he sounds. Plus, Redmond drunk off his @ss would still be way better than Osgood. -

Then maybe other color guys should start drinking? Cause Mick is one of the best, if not the best, in the business right now. He's a hall of fame commentator easy But yeah, distract your jumping to conclusions about the mans drinking by attacking his ability to do his job. -
1 pointMickey doesn't always go on road trips, because of his health and dietary restrictions, I believe. I am in for a long dry spell here, with the awful road schedule the Wings are headed out on. Blah. Homer and Draper would be an awesome duo. Drapes could translate, where needed.

Couldn't disagree more. He's the real deal. There is no better guy to replace him with. -
1 pointThe over-35 thing only applies when a player signs his contract when he's over-35. Which Franzen was not when he signed the contract. If he retires now, part of his cap-hit stays because of the cap-recapture penalty in the new CBA. It's the big F-U from the league for all those front loaded cap deals. EDIT: WingingItInMotown has the breakdown of numbers on their site. http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2013/1/8/3850352/nhl-cba-the-luongo-rule-cap-hit-recapture-what-it-means-for-the-red ...but here's a table of just Franzen's cap hit penalties depending on when he retires. Johan Franzen Total Recapture Pool 2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20 Retires Summer '15 $7,272,730 $1,454,546 $1,454,546 $1,454,546 $1,454,546 $1,454,546 Summer '16 $8,318,185 $2,079,546 $2,079,546 $2,079,546 $2,079,546 Summer '17 $7,863,640 $2,621,213 $2,621,213 $2,621,213 Summer '18 $5,909,095 $2,954,548 $2,954,548 Summer'19 $2,954,550 $2,954,550 So, if he were to up and retire this summer it'd be approximately $1.5million against the cap over the next 5 years. EDIT: ACK! That table looks like s***. EDIT: Okay, slightly better.

1 pointPart of his cap stays. But I think we should go the NHL approved Pronger approach to retirement. Permanent LTIR.

Next Number to be retired
roboturner reacted to GMRwings1983 for a post in a topic
Get off your pony. I didn't say he sucked. I just don't think his number belongs up there with the other players the Wings have in the rafters. Most posters here and most knowledgeable hockey people would agree with me that Osgood isn't a Sawchuk or a Lindsey or a Lidstrom. I also don't seem him being in the HHOF. Osgood is a very good goalie that will never be considered an elite goalie. He was never one of the two or three best goalies in the league. He never won the Vezina. Hell, I think he was only top 3 in Vezina voting once in his career. He is above most of his peers, but below the top echelon of his peers like Hasek, Roy, Brodeur and Belfour. Some would rank him below Cujo as well, despite the latter's lack of team accomplishments. His numbers are impressive and reflect a great career, but much in the same way that Dave Andreychuk's numbers or Dino Ciccarelli's numbers reflect a great career. Yet, those guys are unable to crack the HHOF or be considered among the greatest forwards in league history. It's not just about numbers. But hey, those are all dumb arguments, because kipwinger doesn't like them. Let's retire Ozzie number and proclaim him a top 10 all time goalie. -

Maybe you're right. Either way, at some point it stops being bad luck and starts being bad positioning.
