His hands aren't bad around the net, he just rarely gets the puck there since he's playing on the fourth line.However, I think he's just gripping his stick too tight, and the bounces just aren't coming his way. He clearly has the skill, go look at some of his goals from last season when he had confidence, spin o ramma first goal, making Pavel datyuk-esque moves, or even his behind the back drop pass this year to Kronwall. The skills not the problem, its there, I just think they told him to play a simple game to teach him the way defensively in the nhl. He's still developing and he's fast, big, hits well, grinds well already so yes still valuable to the team while babs is teaching him the stuff he didn't have time to learn in grand rapids. Hell come around, but I really do think they should send him down let him get his confidence back and bring him up after two or three weeks and put him on one of the top lines. Something like they just did with pulks. Also. Having him on a line with A.A. and mantha would be great. Let them all get some chemistry together because if they all come near their potential they could become one of our top two lines of the future. I think Mantha-Athanasiou-Jurco (jam line) together would be amazing, speed, size, skill, some grit, and with a sniper in mantha.... It could be special. aa+Jurcos speed alone would give people fits, and manthas pretty damn quick himself.

If you've been to nhl.com recently (say in the past 12 hours or so) you may have noticed that they revamped their statistics page. Today's transition is part of a three step process to change the way we look at statistics, with the NHL partnering with SAP, who apparently does some stuff with the NBA, although I'm not a fan of basketball so I can't coment on the quality. But part of the rollout includes new types of stats, namely Corsi and Fenwick. Although they're not Corsi and Fenwick anymore. They're "shot attempts" and "unblocked shot attempts" which, while doesn't have that same charm, nor the nod to the folks who first implemented the use of these stats, its a much easier term for the average person to immediately understand without having to do a bit of research. There are other features as well, such as being able to look pretty far back into the past at various stats. The Detroit Cougars are listed on there, for example (George Hay was their leading scorer with 35 points back in 1928). It looks like the site will also include average shot distance, zone starts, goals and assists per 20 minutes and 60 minutes, penalties taken, penalties drawn, and probably some more stuff that I don't know about. I'm still meandering around the new interface, and checking out all the new features, but as a fan of statistics (or really any new way to look at the game), I'm pretty excited to have "offical" numbers to work with now. We should also expect to see more new stuff roll out over the next year or so as they add features and statistics to the website. The AHL should do well for him. I think he could use the boost of confidence, and he's more likely to get that by being a leader and conributor in GR than he is being a passenger for the team playing on the bottom of the lineup here.

I'm fine with it. Would rather have him actually playing than being a healthy scratch or wasting on a line with Miller and Andersson. Never understood putting a skill guy with plugs -- might as well have let Jurco develop all season in GR if that was the way he was going to be used in Detroit.

I kind of hope they start using those smart jerseys that keep track of each and every players stats, and all of the other crazy info on ice happenings. But chea, this is pretty damn cool. Thanks for sharing the find.

Welcome back! As always, lines are projected as this was posted the night before the game. This is in anticipation of Datsyuk and Franzen returning to the lineup.
