This is why we need 2 goalies.

Here are the month by month stats this year: Howard October: 2.21 GAA and a .928 Save % November: 2.56 GAA and a .899 Save % December: 2.14 GAA and a .938 Save % Mrazek October: 2.67 GAA and a .921 Save % November: 1.79 GAA and a .941 Save % December: 2.76 GAA and a .905 Save % These numbers show it about as clear as possible. Nobody plays at a static level every day/week/month/season. All players are up and down. So far our G's have done it perfectly. When Howard is up Mrazek is down, when Mrazek is up Howard is down.

    Heading to Hockeytown

So 10 years ago on New Years Eve, my girlfriend bought me tickets to go see the Wings at the Joe Louis Arena for the first time in my life (we live in Pittsburgh). Later that night, I asked her to marry me and we got engaged. So to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our engagement, my now wife bought me tickets to see the Wings at the Joe again on New Years Eve this year and of course, ironically enough, they're playing the Pens. I feel like that was a sign I'm supposed to go. Anyways, we have two kids now and they're going with us and I've only been to Detroit once, so I was hoping you guys could help out. Obviously, we're doing Hockeytown Cafe. We'll probably check out the Spirit of Detroit statue too. What other fun things are their to do in downtown Detroit that would be kid appropriate? We're staying in a hotel that's 0.3 miles from the Joe. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

No one is saying that +/- is completely meaningless, just that you seem to put way too much stock into it. I think Larkin being +20 as a 19 year old rookie is very indicative of the kind of player he is, but even if he were a mere +4, I would still be just as impressed with his play. Sheahan hasn't been as good as he can be, but he also hasn't been our worst player, yet he's sporting the worst +/- on the team at -8. The constant hate from everyone on Ericsson, but yet he has the best +/- of all our defenseman at +7. Do you really think he's been our best defenseman?...

I agree with krsmith. That is one terrible contract if they sign him for that or anywhere near that. I would rather pay a higher salary for less term, there is no way he is going to be effective in 3-4 years.

Bill, you read WAY too much into +/-... It's probably one of, if not the worst stats to go by, but yet it seems to be your go to in every argument for or against a player. Green has been much better defensively than any of us could have expected. He's actually been quite good, especially considering he is an "offensive" minded defenseman. Sure, his point totals could be a little higher, but he is leading the defense in points per game. He's also just coming off an injury, and has been playing better every game since coming back. He's been great at jumping up in the rush, timely pinches and very solid in his own zone. Green is not an issue with this team whatsoever...

I'd be scared of holland throwing in someone I'm personally high on for a rental Mantha athanasiou bertuzzi holmstrom svechnikov up front for me I'd really wanna keep unless your telling me were getting a Seth Jones/Roman josi type in return (rather give a nyquist in a package deal, which is ironic considering my username) Doubt were gonna lose a highly thought of prospect on waivers .... Only one I can think of is jurco, which I can't see with Blashill being high on , think we'd get rid of Miller before jurco with him being only 23

Ha ha ha. Yah, makes me laugh when people say "can we please keep this in the dedicated thread?" Almost every single thread gets off track and results in us talking about the goalies, the d, or the weak offense. And there's nothing wrong with that, imo. Talking about what we agree on would be really useless. Larkin is awesome. Yep. Agreed. Yep. Yup. Sure is. Yep. But anyways, I have been impressed with Howard's resolve this year. He has stood up to the challenge and played well for the most part.

    That lazy Mantha....

I understand, but for just $3.6M more than Ericcson, he is worlds better. Plus E is 31 and still has 5 more years. (including this year) If that were a trade that could happen (which of course it wouldn't) its really a no brainer. But odds are we are keeping all of E, Nyquist and Mantha.... I just hope Mantha isn't a bust, all the hype and hooplah. We need to get him up here for a few games to see how he handles it.

    New Name For "Grind Line"

Let's call them the "Retired Line" Sorry for the bump, but sometimes its fun to bump up an old topic to look and remember some of our older users! Dang, I cannot believe Eva Unit Zero hasn't been here for a few years!

    That lazy Mantha....

Nobody....you keep in GR to get top line minutes unless you can plug him in the top 6 here as an injury call up. Again, if he were here now, I'd put him next to Pav and drop Helm into Miller's spot, until Miller comes back. Which is where I have Nosek. The Kid - Z - Abby Nosek (or Mantha) - Pav - Richards Nyquist - Sheahan - Tatar Helm - Glen - Jurco (or Andersson)

Do you want mantha on the 4th line? Cause that's what would happen if he was "ahead of" Anderson or nosek

    That lazy Mantha....

Awww, I liked your first edit! He difinitely makes out PK better. I'd like to amend my trade with Nashville. IF they were offering Weber and Mantha was on their want list, I'd do it.

Congrats on your B-day Xym. A Konstantinov jersey and the 800th win @ the Joe seem like pretty cool presents

He was diagnosed with avascular necrosis, where the femur heads lose blood supply and begin collapsing (incidentally this is something I was diagnosed with and am currently recovering from surgery from). He had a different surgery than me though, I believe his was a vascularized fibular graft. Essentially they drilled a few holes into his femur head, and clipped off a part of his fibula from his shin and inserted it into the femur head, and connected the blood supply from the graft to the local vessels. Recovery is supposed to be a *****, but for me personally its exciting to see him on the ice (even if he was a goon), especially for him to be a goalie and have to have hip joints in excellent shape. I hope he makes his way back to the NHL.

Not sure how I feel about this move. We're already pretty deep at center and Oates is past his prime.
