We're a slick puck moving dman away from being able to play a different style of game. Lose Quincey, buyout Ericsson, give Smith a larger role and possibly add a good offensive defensemen and this is a different style of team

Does he have a Kentucky Derby winner named after him? I think not.

Saw this and thought the community might be interested in this. Since it's one of the factors that contributed to me becoming a Red Wings fan, I thought it was best posted here. Why Cameron Frye Wore a Gordie Howe Jersey in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

True but Babcock basically hinted in an interview that he wasn't interested nor was it practical. But I really don't trust the word of Babs. After he kept saying he had no reason to leave Detroit he booked it for Toronto so..

No denying we underachieved, even the water boy probably did. There is exciting things coming for this team though.

That rumour makes no sense. If malkin wanta out of pittsburg because he wants to be the guy as the rumour suggests, than why would he want to go to chicago where there is already kane and toews? If anything he would be more likely to want to go to detroit where he really would be the guy. But he just won another cup and just had a kid. I dont think he wants to go anywhere.

I'd keep Nyquist over Tatar too but the difference between the two is negligible... Some fans will favor Tatar, others Nyquist, I think the same would go for NHL coaches and general managers... I wouldn't say either are more right or wrong than the other though...

Buffalo is also close to Toronto, haha. I just don't know if Toronto is close to shaking their perennial loser reputation. At least the Wings make playoffs. We are certainly closer to competing than the Leafs, so that's in our favor. Also he'd be our number one center, no chance he gets put on the wing here. Our franchise also has a reputation and money to blow. We may have struggled in recent years but we've set our mind on competing again and when the Wings really committ to winning, we win. We've just been in a weird holding pattern since 2010. I don't know if that factors in but there's got to be a confidence that now that we've decided things have to changed our leadership knows how to do it.

S***! I forgot the ... Now do you think he'd want Ericsson?... :ninja:

Do you think Chayka would like to make his mark on the Coyotes with a big, stay at home Swedish defenseman?... I mean Ericsson would be the perfect fit on the top pair with Ekman-Larsson...

    Cap may drop

http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/06/16/report-players-likely-to-vote-to-bump-up-2016-17-salary-cap/ Well that's good I suppose.. Anyone know if that escalator also bumps up the cap floor? That'd be slightly more convenient for moving pavs contract if he leaves ha

It has to the situation when negotiations completely fail (with a gap that can't be brindged) and the player hasn't stated public that they will test free agency. In the case of Filpula, I think we were really close in negotiations (there were some saying that Fil came back to accept our offer, but we had already signed Weiss) and wanted to leave the door open for him to sign. I don't recall their being a great demand for Hudler. If Helm says that the money isn't close to what he wants, then we could look into it. I don't think there's that much benefit to having an extra 7th round pick, though. We seem to be good at finding college players and undrafted others, and unsigned prospects if we want more prospects. These guys (Nosek, Hicketts, Glendening, Russo) have as much of a chance to make it as someone in the 7th round. I think it really only matters for higher value guys that would bring a higher round pick. Filpula could have maybe brought a 5th in, but we haven't let many high value guys go. Maybe Hossa was a situation where we should traded his rights since we were sure we weren't going to sign him.

Yeah the only thing I can think of is there isn't enough interest most of the time. Goligoski must just be a guy that Arizona had on their radar and thought would receive a lot of interest on the open market? Who knows what goes on behind the scenes..

I think krsmith meant why doesn't holland make trades the other way (as if we were Dallas).. Maybe because no one wants our players badly enough? I don't get it either

I'd take Nielsen. Contrary to what people say we still need vets, just vets that can play or bring a certain dynamic. Our vets are currently just washed up.

well, Sheahan, is a third line player in NHL meaning that he is approximately top 400 at pro hockey worldwide out of let's say several thousands of pro hockey players. Are you sure you're top 10-20% at what you're doing?

lol. the only reason why bowman had to make this trade in the first place is because of a loyality contract handed out to an easily replaceable player in bickell. total mismanagement of the cap by stan
