I agree it was the right move, but for awhile there Mrazek would have a solid game but wouldn't get the next start. It's hard to earn your job back when your coach insists on playing the other goaltender regardless of how you play. It took Coreau to fall on his face for Blash to give Mrazek a solid string of starts. I know Blash and Mrazek weren't seeing eye to eye for awhile, so that may have something to do with that. And Mrazek fighting his way back absolutely will make him stronger and show him that just cause your down, your never out if you want something bad enough. Goalies have down periods, and Holland said something in an interview about this being the first time Mrazek has faced true adversity probably since junior, so it was hard on him and he got pissed off. He just needed to relax, work hard, and figure things out for himself. Seems like he has. Exactly.

    Martin Hanzal?

    Hes so hot right now

34 saves on 36 shots... He didn't blow anything. The only reason we won was because of him. So win doesn't get us the row, but we still get 2 points. And if they're going to try to make the playoffs still, they take them any way they'll come.

    Martin Hanzal?

5 years ago, I wanted Hanzel on this team, now, not so much. Hanzel is a very good hockey player, but not at all what a rebuilding team should be looking for, especially as a deadline acquisition. I'd consider acquiring him in the offseason, if we didn't already have a ton of vets signed long-term. We really need to start getting younger, and Hanzel doesn't help in that regard. Hard pass for me as well.

He started getting the starts because Coreau began to struggle. The more Mraz played, the better he got. But it's good. Only by playing (even through adversity) will he work out the weaknesses.

Blashill made Mrazek earn the job back which IMO was the right move. If Mrazek couldnt take the benching then he shouldnt be in the NHL. I will give him credit though, when he was at rock bottom and he worked his way out. This will make him a stronger goaltender and will be better for us in the long run.

    Martin Hanzal?

The Wings don't need anymore 30+ year old players chaps. Hanzel and Boyle will be looking for long term contracts. You want them here till they're 38 along with Zetterberg, Nielsen and Kronwall? Shall we get all 5 a big cake when they retire one after the other and take spots from younger players in Grand Rapids? Both players are going to be regressing soon enough.

    Martin Hanzal?

It really is something the Wings need. Big players who can skate and contribute offensively and defensively that aren't afraid to use their size, stick up for teammates, and get into the odd fight. I'm not talking mindless zombie enforcers that would get outskated by Timbits league kids. They've been pushed around for years, and management is obviously aware of the issue, but won't do anything. No reason to expect that to change I guess.

    Martin Hanzal?

The issue with Hanzal is that, while he is big, he's more of a playmaker. He's never cracked 20 goals in a season. He's also never cracked 41 points, either. We have too many players that fit this bill. He's also a center, and I don't think he's a top 6 forward, but more of a third line center. That would be great if we didn't have Helm already signed. If we could somehow get rid of Helm and sign Hanzal, I'd be all for it. I also don't know that this is the type of trade/signing that would make sense for a team that is going to be rebuilding. He's 29 right now and hasn't played a full season (81 games) since the 09/10 season. It's a hard pass, in my opinion. You don't want to spend assets, at least not the type of assets we'd have to give up to get him.

Brutal Red Wings season and Zetterberg still keeps chugging along, 3rd game winning shootout goal this year and set up both goals. Not sure why people think he's not a good captain. Literally the only one actually putting everything into it.

Number 1 Star is Mrazek today... we would be long gone in this one without him.

    Trouba or Pick

I have a lot of family in Rochester, and two nephews of mine went to highschool with Jake Trouba. Asked them yesterday snd they said he was a "mommas boy" and didnt have a ton of friends. No trade.

    Trouba or Pick

Here's my opinion. Getting a 1D in the draft is always a hit or miss because defensemen have weird development. Getting a 1C in the draft is usually guaranteed to be good if they are in the top 5 pick. So I would: Trade Larkin for Trouba 1 for 1. Draft Nolan Patrick. Done. Just kidding you know we ain't getting Patrick. But let's say we get the 3rd pick at worst this year. I draft Vilardi and wish Dylan Larkin well and go visit Trouba in his Rochester home in Michigan this summer when he moves back. Maybe buy him a welcome home present or something. My point is Vilardi, Patrick might be in a weak draft class but they will most likely be better centers than Larkin. Whereas if you keep Larkin and try to draft a 1D, you never know what you'll get. Could be hit or miss.

I like good defensive players and I don't mind defensive minded coaches, in fact I prefer them. But to KR's point, I agree, the way this team is built I think they should be playing a risky, up-tempo style offense. Our forward group is where the depth on this team is. A Lindy Ruff type coach I think could squeeze a lot more out of them. Sure we'd also probably give up more goals than we are now, but my thought is perhaps we'd score more than we'd give up. If this team had better D we could probably play how Blashill wants to, but it doesn't, and unfortunately I think he's trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

    Here's an interesting blog

...the tire is on fire...and Kenny is kicking it. But it won't go out, it just sits there, burning, smoking, filling the lungs of all Wings fans with toxic fumes of death...kick it some more Kenny!
